About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions
+1000 in-game dialogues
+30 minutes OST
+30 hours of gameplay
Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

This is probably the the best puzzle game I've played so far. It only helps that I personally study Linguistics rn since his game does show you the baselines of communication from a perspective rarely/never even considered in the general study field of Linguistics itself. This is not a game about 'human' communication, but a 'humanly' crafted hypothesis on how 'non-human-entities' would/could communicate with 'human-entities'. And that is exactly the reason why I love this game. Since it is made by humans there is still human bias in the game as the aliens are but a mere imagination of what an 'alien' could be and the messages sent from both 'Sender' and 'Receiver' are not more than (somewhat) arbitrary introspections of concepts. However, this game doesn't feel as if that bias is overtly present or as if the messages are arbitrary introspections; it really feels like a journey/ real work to decode the messages sent from deep space. And all of this is embedded in a perfectly fitting atmosphere, artstyle, character design and music (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the music goes hard). Especially the characters have only ever grown on me and offer almost always comedic relief, entertainment and interesting perspectives on (all forms of) life. transmission ?%&/§""§$%='# sender target receiver love do gap gap receiver target sender love do gap gap then sender and receiver target (sender, receiver) bothways love do 0 = fillin
An absolutely unique experience.
A very nicely thought out and original experience. You are translating messages starting from nothing, and you will face unexpected grammar and words which don't quite line up with words in your language, or which are used in unexpected ways. My best experiences with the game are when I realize that a word I had translated just wasn't making sense any more and I have to go back and figure out what it really means. It is essentially entirely text based though the supporting graphics have a good retro feel. There is a light touch story line with the characters who are working with you, which I don't usually have any patience for, but here I found it non intrusive and even at times engaging.
An absorbing game, may at times feel a bit like reviewing your school education but juggling word definitions and trying to find words for things that clearly don't match 1:1 to English words is engaging. Sometimes a bit picky about answers but that's what you'd expect from an alien probe that's basically a recording of inputs and outputs.
great game, no real complaints but it does slurp battery on my portable way faster than what amounts to a text interface should, even with graphics all at low. hopefully they can fix bc its excellent.
This unique puzzle game have no right to be this good! Trailers and pictures really do not capture the fun and emotion this game gives you!
