About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions
+1000 in-game dialogues
+30 minutes OST
+30 hours of gameplay
Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

The Message from Deep Space is one of those kinds of games that you will only get to experience once. Similar games include Chants of Sennar and Heavens Vault in that you are decoding alien transmissions into something legible, but I could also make very loose comparisons to The Outer Wilds just in the sort of mood that's set. Roughly the first quarter of the game is dealing with a lot of math and trying to rationalize concepts using just math, but as the game goes on you start deciphering actual alien language and grammar. Saying much more than that would spoil too much of the game. The game is paced in a way that you learn about a few concepts which culminates in some cool revelation, followed by an 'end of week' summary, after which your colleagues will provide suggestions for words you've defined in case you were still struggling with them. There's also plenty of incidental dialog between your colleagues which can either serve as important hints or just funny banter. If you aren't afraid of doing some math or getting help from the steam forums or discord then 10 MONEY UNIT is worth the price of admission. There is also a free demo which covers the first 'act' consisting of about 70 transmissions, and progress from the demo rolls over into the main game (it did for me at least. I heard it didn't for others, but even so you can breeze through those transmissions if you have to once you've already seen them)

I'm not the kind of person who normally writes reviews, and this is the first time I have felt compelled to write one. The premise of The Message from Deep Space is a dream I have had my whole life, and this game gave me the opportunity to act out that dream for a while. It delivers on every front, including the cool visuals, the soundtrack, and an endearing cast of characters. To say that this is a "logic puzzle game" (or similar) is technically true, but that is severely underselling it. One message at a time, you are trying to derive meaning from simple logic questions, and before long, you will be amazed by how far your mutual language has come considering where you started. It is very easy to believe while you are playing that you are actually deciphering a truly alien transmission. I would definitely recommend this game for everyone, the game provides you with everything you need, and no special knowledge or skills is required. Don't start this if you have a big project coming up, you won't be able to start once you stop.
Très fun, nécessite cependant des bases solides en maths et sciences
This is my game of the year.
I'm not one for text based stuff, but... This is such a fantastic game. I'm absolutely hooked. It is kinda dense and thoroughly slow, but its such a delicacy to experience. The concept is fascinatingly complex and its presented in a very comprehensible way. I'm enjoying every bit of it. I still haven't finished it but I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the absolute mental skill it involves to work around such a difficult task: How do you create comprehension? I'm astonished by the design of this game and how its aesthetics carry it along in a fun and lighthearted way. This game is an achievement
What a fantastic game this is. It's very easy to compare to Chants of Senaar (another excellent puzzle game) in that the gameplay is about understanding languages. But that is a game that will show you two green apples and then three symbols and you'll know that those symbols represent "two", "green", and "apple" in some order. The Message from Deep Space manages to build a large and expressive language from scratch. The demo is almost completely focused on arithmetic, but the game grows far, far beyond that. Probably no replay value, but there is so much content that I would easily recommend this game even at full price.
This game is fantastic. DIFFICULT. But fantastic. I can definitely see it not being for everybody, specially if you don't have a decent understanding of basic high school subjects, but if you like logic puzzles then this is definitely worth giving a shot. It's also lengthy! I don't even think I'm halfway through yet.
