Amazing game! Builds on the previous one, but you don't need to play it first to enjoy this one. The puzzles were all really good, there were several good plot twists, and overall just very fun and satisfying to play. The characters are all hilarious in their own ways, and the art and animation are immaculate. I played it with my two daughters and we had a blast!
having played the prior installments in the series i had nothing but high expectations leading up to The Mermaid Mask's release, and after 2 and a half play throughs i can say without a doubt that i was absolutely blown away. the story way exceeded anything i couldve hoped for, and has left me speechless for almost 6 weeks, even playing it 2 times through im still finding more and more details in this masterpiece. the detective grimoire games are highly character driven, with the enjoyment coming from learning about the people inhabiting this world and unravelling the mystery together. the puzzle gameplay i found challenging enough to be really engaging, if you love beautiful art, animation, voice work and in depth well written characters, the mermaid mask and its predecessors are perfect for you!! i just truly love this franchise and i hope whoever plays can find as much joy as i have with these games!
I need to say that this is by far the best narrative game I've played to date, and maybe the best game period. It's oozing with care and love. I am a huge fan of the Detective Grimoire series and I considered Tangle Tower one of my favorite games since I first played it on my iPad several years ago (and I have a LOT of games). The Mermaid Mask, which I was beyond excited about for SO long, exceeded any and all very high expectations I had. It has all the charm of Tangle Tower times twenty with unbelievably beautiful art, including an amazing art book, a killer hook, fascinating and unique characters, and an exciting mystery. The ending is absolutely phenomenal and I love all the references/tie-ins to the previous games sprinkled throughout. This game truly holds a very special place in my heart and while more Detective Grimoire games would be incredible, I understand that it's an insane amount of work and series don't need to go on forever. I'd just as soon jump on any graphic novels or merch, but if this does remain a trilogy, it serves as an excellent trilogy as it stands. I would recommend this game to absolutely everybody, without question. At this price, you have nothing to lose and you'd be supporting a wonderful team.
I've been a fan of the series for years and this game is another banger!

I liked tangle tower and the mermaid mask does just as well if not better on all levels. Though some of the puzzles I feel as though could've been a little clearer, overall a super fun time that I'd recommend.
It's just good.
Look, I don't really write reviews, ever. But the Detective Grimoire series has been such a joy that I need to add my own voice to the praise this game has been receiving. I found the DG series last year, or the year before(?) with The Tangle Tower and fell in love; the music, the humor, the attention to detail, the story, the visuals and, most importantly, the characters. Grimoire and Sally carried me through the Tangle Tower on a whirlwind of laughs, tender moments, gripping intrigue and a surprising amount of ominous, tense moments where I found myself on the edge of my seat. It was a fantastic experience that I've been chasing the feeling of since I beat it. Then I played the previous game in the franchise, which is also on Steam and something I highly recommend if your newest dose of SFB's particular brand of genius wasn't enough with the latest entry. To look back and see how far the franchise has come, how far the studio as a whole has come, brings such joy and wonder to my heart. Now the newest game has come out and I can quite honestly say that it was worth the wait. The Mystery of the Mermaid's Mask was one that had me utterly enthralled from the moment I started playing to the final reveal and showdown. I'm not ashamed to admit that, for all I made connections and solved a few key bits of the story a good bit before I had the option to confront people about their secrets, the *actual* inciting mystery and the culprit at the end managed to, if not blindside me, then completely upend my own personal theories on who the culprit really was! If you are hesitating on buying this game, don't, it's worth every penny I spent on it and if you haven't played the previous entries do yourself a favor an go and get those as well, play them all and know that you have my envy that you get to experience them all for the first time yourself. P.S. To the developers at SFB Games... I still remember that Sally called Grimoire Cute or Handsome when they first met in the random dialogue you could get. Still no romance? I wont forget this...
Very good art and story! Has some connections to previous games in the series, but not enough that you will feel you are missing anything if this is the first one you play. Puzzles aren't too difficult. Voice acting is great!
Another fantasist Grimoire mystery! I highly recommend
