The Mermaid Mask

HIGHLY recommend for anyone that loves mystery with sharp witty dialogue in a wonderful world with some mysticism in it. This game is a VERY strong upgrade from Tangle Tower: The dialogue feels even punchier, the characters feel even more engaging and complex, the new 3D clues and other system changes are MASSIVE upgrades. This game sucks you right in, and builds you slowly towards that incredible peak as the climax of the story moves closer, then takes you EVEN HIGHER. They also managed to deal with my biggest gripes in Tangle Tower which is that we FINALLY get to see the characters interact with each other! And also the mystery is much more difficult to solve! and the multitiudes of bug fixes!!! and I utterly ADORE the ONGOING mysteries from the previous detective grimoire games, which I now realise means they are playing the LONG game with this and I am SO excited. The way they built upon and added to their already existing world makes everything so SO satisfying and gets your heart pumping like nothing else. If I HAD to give my minor nitpicks, it's the missable achivements (as a trophy hunter), and that the "mystery solving logic puzzles" still feel like you can guess-and-check. Still waiting for that chapter select too... Buuuut that's it. PLEASE play this game, even if you haven't tried their previous games.

Very impressive and very fun mystery point-and-click game. I can't believe it's 100% voice acted, you rarely see that much dedication put into the presentation of a game like this.

Another absolute Gem!

Mermaid Mask is the new installement to the Detective Grimoire series - following Tangle Tower and Secret of the Swamp, both available on Steam. Those are story/puzzle/detective games where you uncover a murder mystery by collecting suspects testimonies and clues, the latter unlocked by a variety of short puzzles. At the crossroad of point-and-click adventures, Professor Layton and Ace Attorney games, in a little package. If you already played Tangle Tower [i](I played it on mobile, so this part doubles as a review of that game too)[/i] : you know what to expect. More of the same. A [b] gorgeous [/b] little game with a pretty artstyle, impactful character design enhanced with animation and voice acting, a solid soundtrack. Memorable and fun characters still retaining a layer of melancholy behind their hidden complexities. A charismatic setting that include just a touch of supernatural and wonder. And for long term fans, lore and references to previous entrees making the world feel connected. About Tangle Tower : [spoiler]There is a common disappointment about the culprit of that game. I understand what it was going for, the feeling of "futility" of the crime, its motives. An empty feeling being the symptom of the rot of Tangle Tower, of a dysfunctional family. But I also understand how some players were left on a sour, unsatisfactory note.[/spoiler]. If that was your feelings about Tangle Tower, I'm happy to say that Mermaid Mask doesn't not have the same issues - so, don't be afraid to delve into this new installment. In quality of life, the game offers multiple subtitle languages, and much to my appreciation the unlockable gallery of concept arts of the characters, locations and clues is still present. This is the type of game by a small studio where the layer of presentation and polish makes you scared there won't be a follow-up. I suppose it's not a worry if the game is a great financial success. So, to avoid this delightful franchise to dive into unknown depths like a submarine, never to be seen again, please play the Mermaid Mask. And Tangle Tower if you haven't already.

Отличное продолжение!! В Tangle Tower главным недостатком являлась абсурдная концовка, здесь же всё максимально стройно - у убийцы понятная и даже драматичная мотивация. Очень нравится, что у на первый взгляд карикатурных персонажей довольно тяжёлый бэкграунд, что делает их очень живыми. Антураж потрясающий, озвучка и анимации на высоте. Одна из любимых серий игр. Готова ждать следующую часть столько, сколько потребуется!
