THE LONG DARK is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

This game will break your heart and mend it within hours. Truly one of my favorite games ever and can't wait for the second to come out. Hinterland is a great studio that cares about their people and it shows.
Juegazo 9/10 Significa mucho para mi, a pesar de las Claras carencias y problemas que tiene el modo Wintermute por fin haber jugado el modo Historia completo me dio un cierre con el A por el platino en modo Survival

walking sim.. makes me happier not playing it.. kinda regret buying and the hype back then
I absolutely loved this game. I'm a huge fan of survival games, and this is the best one I've played. The survival aspect itself is enjoyable. When I first bought the game, it was new and the sandbox survival mode was all there was to play. I spent many hours enjoying it and came back eventually to enjoy it some more - only to discover there was now a story mode that I was not expecting! I thoroughly enjoyed the story and had a very hard time putting the game down. Almost all the story modes in the other survival games I've played have been disappointing in some major way - very grindy trying to get to the next point, irrelevant to gameplay for the most part, or very exposition-based with characters I didn't connect with. However, because TLD took its time throughout the chapters developing the characters, there was a solid thread pulling me along the whole way. It's key to focus not only on the story you're telling but also how you're telling it, and TLD's team clearly knows this. Although many have complained over the years about the story mode chapters taking a long time to be released, they were created by a very small studio that took its time perfecting what they released. In my opinion, the wait (which for me, was for a "free"/bonus story mode as it wasn't even part of the game yet when I bought it) was 100% worth it. I would even go back and play the story again. I can't wait for the sequel! My only complaint would be the lack of Indigenous representation. As this game takes place above the tree line in Canada and does address some ecological concerns, I would expect the majority of the characters to be indigenous and for indigenous practices and reservations to feature to some extent in the story. However, it's overall whitewashed. I hope this was simply because the studio did not want to appropriate culture and/or was focusing on writing and creating what they know. I hope more indigenous peoples and the impact of colonizers on Northern Canada are featured in the sequel. Without this, I feel an integral part of the Northern Canadian political sphere was left out. That being said, the game was a lot of fun and I loved the story that we did get. 9/10. Great job, Hinterland!
Have you ever read Jack London's short story, "To Build A Fire"? Yeah, it's like that. (Well, except there's no dog.) The Long Dark is the rare low-combat survival game, which is great for me as a person who generally doesn't play action games. How long you survive is based on how well you manage the resources and circumstances the game spawns for you. It's also a wonderfully moody experience, with its illustrated graphics style, melancholy orchestral score, and the feeling of absolute isolation in Survival mode. The Long Dark is my go-to game for when I'm feeling overwhelmed by life.
