About
Lured in by shared nightmares, madmen travel to a remote island crowned by a silent Tower. No one remembers the journey.
The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an open world RPG built around exploration and connection. You learn the land by walking it, following rumors, reading scraps of burned history, and meeting lost souls who wandered to the ends of the Earth, following the same feverish dream of a light buried beneath the Tower.
Somewhere in the depths is a theater with an empty stage, waiting for an audience. As you repair or ruin the lives of the island's inhabitants, the phantoms they leave behind take their seats in the audience. The more seats you fill, the more the island listens, and the greater the applause for your final act.
And if you don’t want to descend alone, you don’t have to. The entire game is fully playable in co-op: explore the island together, delve into the depths for treasures, and make the choices that will decide the fate of everyone on the island, and beyond...
A wild, ancient island to explore
Follow leads, find shortcuts into the Tower, stumble into side stories, and piece together what is real and what is mere delusion.
Open Ended
Most quests have multiple resolutions. Mercy, violence, compromise, deceit.
A large cast of bizarre characters
Many strange folk find their home on the island. A giant toad learning to read. An ancient skeleton who just wants to swim. A musician from a faraway land hunts for something precious. Everyone has a theory for why you’re here. None of them agree.
The Amphitheater
Your choices change the world. Treat others with kindness and generosity, and a trusted friend will take their seat in your audience. Fail or abuse them, and something darker takes their place. The House fills either way.
Visceral Combat with multiple weapon types
Punchy combat against strange horrors
Full co-op
Play the whole game together. Explore the world, share the spoils, and decide who you will become, because the consequences belong to all of you.
The Tower does not call the whole. It calls the broken, the wanting.
Fill the seats. Start the performance. Find out what is buried at the bottom of the well.

3 hours in, one restart. Just so fully engaged with the leveling mechanics, exploring, stealing, fighting etc. Novelty will wear off eventually, but for now - super enjoyable.
Incredibly immersive Scrolls-like. Bought the game, played 6 hours in one sitting, absolutely going back for more. The purposefully minimal UI is wonderful for getting lost on the absolutely labyrinithian island, but you can also refer to its highly detailed 3D map when you need to actually plan a route. My only immediate criticism is that the combat is lacking in tactical depth. Enemies currently beeline towards you and then mindlessly trade hits until one or the other perishes. It's also unclear what buffs/debuffs are affecting your character without informative UI or visual effects. I also ought to mention that the game seems to make my PC run a bit hot (specs attached), but I've never been inconvenienced by any frame drops or loading times.

FANTASTIC game. SO much freedom and expression of creativity possible. Barely dipped the surface of whats possible with spells, but very excited for more. The game could do with some explanation of equipment and how to swap weapons etc, as i don't believe the F key comes up in the keybinds section, so trying to equip spells in combat with R was not working well. Realised this later how to do it and it became so much better, it just needs to be explained somehow. Playing through with a friend makes this amazing, especially with pvp turned on and the minimal consequence of death. I kept thinking throughout, this game knows how to make FUN. Its just pure FUN. Heavily recommend to those who enjoyed skyrim's learn through using style level ups.
Travelled for hours across the map in the hopes of finding a mage in a tower, got there, told "no". and refused further help till we did something. A lot of the NPCs wont help you unless you do something for them. Our journey there was more than worth the price though, and we discovered a lot of cool things along the way.
10/10, would levitate down someone's chimney to find ... something ... again. Utter Lunacy!
I like it a lot
haha funny game 78 / 100
I was excited for this one from the moment I saw the trailer, but also afraid of my expectations. Would it really be Scrolls-like? I played Morrowind again recently (and the Oblivion remaster), and they are great but had their flaws. Is that was I am throwing money at, a Morrowind copy that lives in the rose tinted memory of 2002. No, this is everything you wanted Morrowind to be, and more. Better quests, great NPCs, good voice acting, but above all: Intrigue mystery, fresh story, fresh world and a focused game with a real hook from the moment you arrive. Where Elder Scrolls games are sprawling and you forget the main quest half the time, in LOTLS all the quests, the world, the stories and the motivations of the NPCs are driven by the main plot, and so are you. With the main reason to play in the bag, you also have freedom to play how you like, and that doesn't mean you completely hamstring yourself by choosing melee or magic, it all works, and scales fairly well. mobs don't get tougher automatically so you can enjoy investing into your build and get rewarded for playing well. tougher mobs exist as you explore and overall this works well. It is early access but I cant stop exploring the game. I fully recommend it to anyone who likes RPG exploration and Scrolls like games. I'm looking forward to Quality of life enhancements, and to see how far the Devs take it, but as it stands its totally playable, even in its current form
this game looks great. Morrowind is one of my favorite games and this game looks like it has a lot of potential but it crashes nonstop and is currently unplayable so I would not recommend buying at this time. I'll change this review if/when I actually get to play it. Update: updated my driver and made sure everything on my computer was up to date, uninstalled game and reinstalled it. Game no longer opens, now sits at a black screen and will not stop the process until computer is restarted. Update 2: I downloaded the mod that allows you to skip the opening cinematic and that allowed me to successfully get to the main menu, however the game will freeze within 20 seconds of loading a save and still continues to not close until the computer is shut off. The game looks super fun but as of this moment is completely unplayable. Update 3: This will be my final update. I tried for a couple hours on a brand new pc and older laptop, both fully updated and without previous issues, the game either freezes or crashes within 60 seconds of loading I save. The freezes and crashes occur regardless of what I do so I can only assume there is no specific action triggering the incidents. I look forward to when this game is in a more stable state because it looks awesome but until then I'm giving up. tldr: freezes/crashes constantly.
Good game, but buggy
All I've been able to think about since release. So many things I hope to see knowing The Lantern of the Laughless Saint takes place immediately before The Holy Fool. GIVE ME MORE. Also ♥♥♥♥ YOU TODD HOWARD
