About
Lured in by shared nightmares, madmen travel to a remote island crowned by a silent Tower. No one remembers the journey.
The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an open world RPG built around exploration and connection. You learn the land by walking it, following rumors, reading scraps of burned history, and meeting lost souls who wandered to the ends of the Earth, following the same feverish dream of a light buried beneath the Tower.
Somewhere in the depths is a theater with an empty stage, waiting for an audience. As you repair or ruin the lives of the island's inhabitants, the phantoms they leave behind take their seats in the audience. The more seats you fill, the more the island listens, and the greater the applause for your final act.
And if you don’t want to descend alone, you don’t have to. The entire game is fully playable in co-op: explore the island together, delve into the depths for treasures, and make the choices that will decide the fate of everyone on the island, and beyond...
A wild, ancient island to explore
Follow leads, find shortcuts into the Tower, stumble into side stories, and piece together what is real and what is mere delusion.
Open Ended
Most quests have multiple resolutions. Mercy, violence, compromise, deceit.
A large cast of bizarre characters
Many strange folk find their home on the island. A giant toad learning to read. An ancient skeleton who just wants to swim. A musician from a faraway land hunts for something precious. Everyone has a theory for why you’re here. None of them agree.
The Amphitheater
Your choices change the world. Treat others with kindness and generosity, and a trusted friend will take their seat in your audience. Fail or abuse them, and something darker takes their place. The House fills either way.
Visceral Combat with multiple weapon types
Punchy combat against strange horrors
Full co-op
Play the whole game together. Explore the world, share the spoils, and decide who you will become, because the consequences belong to all of you.
The Tower does not call the whole. It calls the broken, the wanting.
Fill the seats. Start the performance. Find out what is buried at the bottom of the well.

Indie Morrowind/Oblivion for better and for worse. I'd compare this to Tainted Grail. Both are recreations of the Bethesda formula but doing it an enticing way. This game leans more into the old-school vibe while also maintaining enough QOL and modern features to still be an enjoyable journey. There is voice acting for most lines, I only found a couple cases of no voice acting. Matt Mercer voices a character which is awesome, and then the voice acting cast does a stellar job with the rest. This game is a love letter for a certain type of gamer, and it'll click really well with that particular gamer. I imagine the co-op would be pretty fun as well, I definitely need to check that out. So far, it's a big recommendation from me. The music, atmosphere, world building, voice acting, and gameplay loop is very enjoyable. I'm gonna list bugs / general things I'd like to see - More rewards for swimming, I've been swimming a LOT and haven't found much just going around the edge of the map. -Enemies can teleport through walls and sometimes bug out on walls. I had an enemy go through the door and attack me WHILE I was lockpicking said door haha -I'd like to see more lore / lore notes. The NPC at the start dumps a LOT of lore about the surrounding areas, but it'd be cool to learn the lore of a place by being there as well :) -more variety in loot. I'm not far enough in to fully judge it, im basically doing the outskirts of the map first. -more variation/loot in houses. some of the areas will have a lot to explore but not much density inside the actual objects themselves. -Why are zombies/skeleton and fishmen vibing with each other? Some of the enemy placement feels..weird. -Doors should lock from the inside. Eg. If I somehow get into a room without a key, I should be able to freely open the door once in. I had an npc open a door and then I got softlocked inside. I imagine a lot of these are on the list to be fleshed out, but I wanted to note them anyway.

From what I have put in so far: Do you have an itch for a game that captures an Oblivion/Skyrim style of gameplay, with a large map to explore? This is pretty good so far, at least to me. I'm playing with controller, and there does need to be some slight tweaks to the menu navigating when talking to shops or looting things. I would like my inventory to be filterable when looting or talking to shop keeps. It's also be nice to be able to go back and forth instead of having to filter with RT to get back to weapons if I accidentally overshoot it in the menu. Voice acting is pretty good, honestly. Much better than I was anticipating. Good job! All in all, pretty solid so far, and I hope it keeps improving. :) SPOILERS:
I've already met a talking well that can kill the guy who showed it to me if I tell him to go back to the well for another drink lol I met a guy who is inspired from a special guy in Morrowind, and got to see him yeet himself across the sky. Wonderful. :)
corrupted my display drivers when I tried to launch it
The game is super fun, runs smooth most of the time, and as a Morrowind fan, I love the spell system so far. The devs are also actively patching the game, which is confidence inspiring to say the least, because as the other reviews say, it is on the buggier side. If you can put up with a bit of jank, and if you are a fan of the "Scrolls-like" genre, I'd say it's probably worth a try.
Awesome game, super active devs. The game definitely scratches an itch I've not felt scratched in a while
10/10 Jank Boteko <3 Lantern. If you go in expecting polish, coherent story, easy to follow quests, you'll be disappointed. If you go in expecting what the devs promised: an RPG inspired by Morrowind, you'll be satisfied. Game is beyond janky, quests are all over the place, NPCs are zooming at the speed of sound, loved all of it. Can't wait for the Holy Fool.
