its hard ash but i hope its easier when i play for longer fun tho
Amazing game. 1 of the few that really got me hooked. But the current state is so laggy, its near unplayable. The FPS spikes have gone Completely crazy since the last patch. If they fix that? Best dino game ever made.

35 hours at time of review. Still in early access to understandably the game is a bit buggy. Easy to look past though and it's just so much fun. There is no tutorial whatsoever, but the community is very friendly and most people are willing to help out new players. Definitely recommended.
I was looking forward to this game, but I couldn't find a single populated EU server. The multiplayer list was crawling with generic chinese spam servers, all with the same two or three names, thousands of them. Turns out you need to activate the 'evrima' branch through steam... I am going to give this game another go, but it will remain a thumb down until the evrima is updated to be the main game. I find it inexcusable that the main version is a 4+ year old outdated version, where the real version is hidden as a seperate branch.
The game doesnt have any direction whatsoever, even on highly populated servers you wont find anyone playing any of the smaller dinos so trying to play any smaller carnivore is basically impossible. If u still decide to buy the game after that, prepare to run around aimlessly for an hour just to get 1shot by some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 3x your size
insane amount of bugs and annoying stuff but otherwise good Also performance issues

Like many other new players, I found this game through the proximity chat clips that have been going viral. I wanted to know just how much of this game's bad reputation was valid while scratching that dinosaur gaming itch. Turns out, damn near all of it! The following is my experience as a new player, and why I wish I could refund this game. First off, I tried playing legacy. As a new player, I had no idea that the legacy build that boots up on install and play was a long abandoned build. The few other players that I found seemed just as confused as I was. I killed two other dinos in like five life cycles and hours of play. Only managed to reach my adult phase once, and even then I starved to death. I regularly starve to death before I can grow, because there aren't other players to fight! There's no NPC food sources to be found as a carnivore. No map, no directional motivation, no other packs, no signs of life outside of distant Rex and Cera calls. Sometimes I'll find a logged out corpse or someone else's scraps, but that's it. Why isn't your core, currently updating game the one that steam launches by default? Anyway... The animations were gorgeous. Individual mechanics seem interesting, but a taped together ball of mechanics isn't a game. It's a dev's personal little idea sandbox, and a bunk product. "Go to a private server! Play Evrima!" At the reccomendation of a friend who saw I was playing on steam, I joined a server discord. Cool cool, more software to juggle and more third party installs. Then I saw the server had pages and pages of rules of engagement. I don't want to read a manual, I want to run around and bite people as a hungry little raptor! So I joined a DIFFERENT private Evrima server. At this point I've spent days after work researching and installing rather than actually playing. The new server I joined exploded into drama this week when one of the top mods split from the main guy. I'm at work, while my discord is blowing up with concerns of this ex-mod injecting malware into the software he still had access to. Now I get to uninstall everything tied to that, and re-manage my software. Again. During this time, Dondi pushed an update. He wanted trees to be able to fall in the forests, at the expense of even more stability and resources. Many people are doing everything they can to turn this mechanic off, because it's simply too resource intensive tacked on top of an already poorly optimized "game". Regular players have a laundry list of broken interactions that need fixing, and the guy is out here fiddling with trees. I still haven't played Evrima. I still have potentially malicious software to untangle on my PC. I regret giving this man my money. $20 to a man that harbors pedophiles and hates his community. It's well documented, and all information I had found after investing time and money into this game I barely got to experience. Another friend of mine told me that she would have tried to stop me from buying this if she had known I wanted to play. So, we have a stapled together game by a sketchy man who continues to dump features no one asked for instead of fixing core mechanics. It's clear to me now that the community is what's lifting this game up. I heard that the coder for The Isle who actually knew development left to make PoT, so I'm off to go give that a try. Maybe that one will run the current game on launch. Or run at all. TLDR; game doesn't plug and play, updates routinely break things, the dev sucks, and the community is the only good part of this game. Even then, there's malicious people running these private servers that could compromise your PC. 1/10.
