About

Scavenge and fight for your next day alive under the shadow of gargantuan war machines. Enemies in the game can literally tower over the battlefield. To put it another way:

The battlefield is unpredictable thanks to The Forever Winter’s Dynamic Encounter system: enemies have their own goals and agendas, operating in coordinated groups, undertaking full-scale battles — and they’ll intelligently react to your actions. The battlefield you leave won’t be the same one you return to.
Use your wits, stealth, and skilled gunplay to make it out alive. Choose your path in the shadow of the two great superpowers, loot the dead, and make it out alive. While the warring factions may ignore you at first, the more disruptive you become to their goals, the more they'll seek to remove you from the equation.
Ecological collapse compounded by runaway technological advancement brought us here: a dystopian world choked by 40 years of industrial-scale violence between two military superpowers, AI automata, cybernetically enhanced soldiers, human-machine hybrids, and relentless automated warfare. There's two sides to this war, and you're not on either.

Reviews
Fun but full of bugs and crashes.
Don't let the reviews scare you—this is a gem for old-school gamers. I almost skipped this title because of the mixed reviews, but I'm glad I didn't. This game is being heavily and unfairly judged by modern, casual standards. If you grew up on "true heartbreak gaming"—where a single mistake meant a 10-hour corpse run or fighting clunky controls—this game is completely manageable, does not even compare, and the atmosphere here is completely unmatched. Compared to the brutal eras of EverQuest (1999) or the punishing jank of Piranha Bites games (like ELEX and Gothic series), The Forever Winter is absolute gravy. The Bottom Line: If you appreciate tough, atmospheric worlds from the golden era of PC gaming, buy this immediately. ---If you are a casual who needs your hand held, look elsewhere. UPDATE 1: After 14 hours of playing I have some minor gripes. -I have no clue what I need to keep vs what I can sell, need clearer labeling and item Descriptions. -You cannot view ANY stats on weapon mods in the vendor menu, this means that you have to buy the item blind and then check stats at the gear management table, this is totally backwards and needs to be a priority in future updates. -Progression for the main camp upgrades does not feel good. Zero camp upgrades unlocked after 14 hours, no way of knowing where to find any upgrade components, all just blind runs and hope. Each map section should have a list of discoverable components. Otherwise the game is great though frustrating at times, zero technical issues on my end, finally died a few times now, but its always been my fault from rushing or not paying attention, nothing unfair yet. Absolute diamond in the rough.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Attention developers. You guys suck at making games, but the game concept is insanely awesome. Please improve the animations soon; the animations need to look good for effective marketing. The weapon mounting and gripping postures are terribly awkward, and the movements of the characters, helicopters, and exosuits look like they're being dragged around by a computer mouse. And there are so many bugs—fix them quickly. For example, when transitioning to a new map, ammo like cryo rounds in the inventory just vanishes. And switching weapons causes the cryo effect to stop applying. If I run into any more issues while playing, I will keep updating my review.
its hard but really addictive, i like it, good fun, in an infuriating way :)
What makes this game bad is having to constantly traverse a map, then another map, then another map, then another map, then another map, and running into dead ends along the way constantly. It takes a run and makes it last forever, and you simply can not pause the game to get up and even walk away to use the restroom. You will spend an hour outwitting or outrunning enemies just to come across a drone that will spot you and melt you with weapons fire in seconds, or one cyborg that spots you that you have to kill that alerts everything on the entire map.... when you have a half mil worth of gear in your bag. You will lose everything. You can not possibly escape all these enemies and you will never have enough ammo to deal with them all. Game feels far more punishing than rewarding, and all I can say is I am glad I got it on sale cause I was looking forward to this one for a while and it just missed the mark completely. Also, just throwing this out there, the default character skins/designs look absolutely terrible. It's like some weird grim dark version of concord lmao. The extraction element/design of this game is what makes it feel awful, the water system feels awful, and losing all your gear with no insurance system is stupid as ♥♥♥♥. Having a compass with multiple markers that all look identical and no idea of which one leads home is absurd. Just make this game a more open ended squad shooter without the extraction element in the same world and dispose of the water system and you would have a hit honestly.
Atmospheric masterpiece, first and foremost. Gameplay can be a bit better (some enemies kill you too fast, but that's 'skill issue' territory). So gameplay is so and so, but my oh my, the world building/design is top tier; music kicks ass too
