The Few has a genuinely compelling core loop — juggling radar placement, AA guns, factory production, and squadron management while watching your budget drain is tense and satisfying in a way that kept me hooked through the first several in-game days. The tactical combat has its moments too, especially once you learn to abuse the pause button and manually hit the bail-out command before your pilots go down over the Channel. But the cracks show fast: you're capped at 8 planes per engagement no matter how many squadrons you've built up, which means watching 20+ German bombers and escorts pour in and feeling completely helpless against the numbers. After a few days the fights start blending together — same enemy compositions, same micro, same frantic clicking — and with the developers seemingly having gone quiet with no updates in years, there's little hope the rough edges will ever get smoothed out. At a few dollars on sale it's worth a curious afternoon if you're a Battle of Britain enthusiast, but the repetition and abandoned state make it hard to recommend at full price.

Good job and great gam,e
- The graphic is simple but the gameplay is fun, BUT :-) if you are in a fight with an enemy sqaudron you must fight till the end or by autosolve. Why not getting my shattered squadron out and bach to the Airfield and let the other scrambled squadron finish the dogfight? - If you are started a new squadron you can not delete it? why? - you can not tell single pilots to return to the airfield, they must all fight till they are shot down, if so.. NO good Idea but full of bugs
Game is half done. Might have been fun if they continued with the idea.
I've had squadrons disappear after a battle and I've had them continue flying and die when they run out of fuel after I told them to go back to the airbase. Entire squadrons. That's game breaking.
You are told in the tutorial about how you should try to preserve your pilots' lives, but when enemies come in large formations you are only allowed to throw them in one squadron at a time, despite being able to scramble multiple and have them converge in unison, you can only take 8 into battle, inevitably suffer losses, and throw another squadron in only after the first is done... The roster of planes available to you also only consists of two (Spit and Hurricane, obviously) which is underwhelming.
If you accidentally click autoresolve (which you can do when ordering planes), there is no "are you sure" button and you will automatically lose the fight, god awful mechanic
The Few, developed and published by BlackMoon Design, is a real-time strategy game that places players in command of the Royal Air Force during the critical days of the Battle of Britain. The game offers a unique combination of strategic oversight and tactical engagement, inviting players to experience the challenges of defending Britain against relentless Luftwaffe attacks. Set during one of the most iconic campaigns of World War II, the game emphasizes both historical authenticity and engaging gameplay, providing a thoughtful simulation of aerial warfare. Players are tasked with managing the RAF on multiple levels, from high-level strategic planning to direct involvement in combat missions. On the strategic front, players must allocate resources, manage aircraft production, and position squadrons across England’s airfields. These decisions have direct consequences on combat outcomes, requiring careful prioritization and foresight. Balancing limited resources while responding to escalating enemy attacks provides a continuous challenge, ensuring that every choice carries weight and consequence. When enemy raids commence, The Few transitions into real-time tactical battles. Players control squadrons in aerial combat, directing fighters to intercept bombers and engage enemy aircraft. Each plane type, from nimble Spitfires to heavier bombers, has distinct characteristics, and pilots gain experience, allowing rookies to evolve into veteran aces. This progression adds a personal touch to the conflict, as players grow attached to their pilots and develop strategies based on their strengths and weaknesses. The combat mechanics, while simple in execution, offer satisfying depth for those who appreciate tactical decision-making under pressure. Historically, The Few stands out for its attention to detail. The game features squadrons not only from the United Kingdom but also from allied nations such as Poland, Czechoslovakia, Canada, and New Zealand, reflecting the international dimension of the Battle of Britain. Missions and enemy patterns follow historical events, providing players with a sense of authenticity and immersion. The game successfully conveys the tension and scale of the battle, emphasizing the high stakes faced by the RAF during this pivotal period. The visual presentation is functional and clear, with a minimalist art style that prioritizes readability and gameplay over flashy graphics. While the environments and aircraft are not highly detailed, the art direction ensures that players can quickly interpret the battlefield and make informed decisions. The interface is intuitive, providing essential information at a glance and facilitating smooth management of both strategic and tactical layers. Audio in The Few reinforces the wartime atmosphere. The soundtrack captures the urgency of aerial combat, and sound effects provide satisfying feedback for plane maneuvers and combat interactions. While some audio elements may feel repetitive during extended play sessions, they successfully contribute to the immersive experience and help maintain tension throughout the game. Performance-wise, the game runs reliably on a wide range of systems, with responsive controls and full controller support. However, some players may encounter occasional AI inconsistencies, particularly in squadron behavior during combat missions. Additionally, the game’s pacing can be uneven, alternating between extended periods of strategic planning and brief, intense bursts of action. While this may not suit players looking for constant adrenaline, it reinforces the thoughtful, methodical nature of command. Overall, The Few delivers a compelling and historically grounded strategy experience. Its combination of resource management, tactical aerial combat, and historical fidelity provides an engaging portrayal of the Battle of Britain. Despite minor issues with pacing and AI, the game offers depth, challenge, and a strong sense of immersion, making it a rewarding experience for fans of real-time strategy and military history alike.
