Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Aug 14 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

THE EDITOR offers an unusual blend of narrative adventure, newspaper management, mystery, and decision-driven simulation. Instead of placing players in the conventional role of a detective, it makes them the chief editor of a newspaper covering a politically sensitive murder case. A congressman has been killed and his aide is considered the prime suspect, but the real intrigue comes from deciding how the newspaper should frame the developing story. Developed and published by DECATREE GAMES, the game builds its identity around the idea that journalism can influence events rather than simply report them. Each working day centers on preparing a front-page story. Players decide what editorial approach to take, select headlines, and alter photographs to complement the message being communicated. These tasks are mechanically straightforward, but their consequences give them weight. A sensational headline may attract attention, while a restrained approach could protect the newspaper's reputation. Manipulating an image to reinforce a particular narrative can also influence how readers interpret events. The simplicity of these mechanics keeps the focus on judgment rather than technical complexity. What makes the concept particularly effective is that editorial choices have consequences beyond the newspaper itself. The way stories are presented can affect the people connected to the murder investigation and ultimately contribute to determining their fate. This gives routine publishing decisions a moral dimension. Players are repeatedly encouraged to think about whether they are presenting information responsibly, pursuing commercial success, protecting the publication, or deliberately guiding public opinion toward a preferred conclusion. The management side adds further pressure through credibility, sales, and autonomy. These competing concerns make it difficult to approach every story from a single perspective. Maximizing sales is not necessarily compatible with maintaining credibility, while protecting editorial independence can require decisions that are less immediately rewarding. Although these systems are more streamlined than those of a dedicated business-management simulator, they complement the narrative by making the newspaper feel like an organization whose survival and reputation matter. Its nonlinear structure is another major strength. Choices matter because they can steer events in different directions, making the experience more than a fixed mystery with occasional dialogue options. Players can experiment with different editorial philosophies across subsequent playthroughs, perhaps prioritizing responsible reporting during one run and pursuing a more provocative publication during another. This creates worthwhile replay value for anyone interested in discovering alternative consequences and seeing how individual decisions interact with the broader investigation. The atmosphere also benefits from its noir-inspired political mystery. The combination of murder, questionable evidence, media influence, and institutional pressure creates a setting where certainty is difficult to achieve. Rather than relying heavily on action, the game generates tension through information and responsibility. The player possesses considerable influence, but that influence is exercised through headlines, photographs, and editorial direction. This makes the newsroom feel like an active part of the conflict rather than simply a location where exposition is delivered. Visually, the stylized presentation fits the game's somewhat unconventional mixture of serious themes and accessible mechanics. Point-and-click interactions and readable interfaces make the core systems approachable, while the focus on articles and photographs reinforces the newspaper theme. The game also includes achievements, cloud functionality, statistics, leaderboards, and other supporting Steam features, although these remain secondary to the narrative campaign. There are some limitations to consider. Players expecting a deeply technical newspaper simulator may find the management systems relatively light, while those seeking a traditional detective game may initially find the indirect method of investigating the murder unfamiliar. Much of the entertainment comes from reading, interpreting situations, making choices, and observing consequences. As a result, players who prefer action-heavy gameplay or highly complex strategy systems may find the pacing too deliberate. Steam Deck compatibility requires some qualification. The Steam store listing does not currently display an official Valve Steam Deck compatibility rating for THE EDITOR, so it should be regarded as officially unverified rather than Verified or Playable. The game is listed for Windows, and its relatively modest technical demands and point-and-click-oriented design suggest that experimenting through Steam Play/Proton may be possible, but this should not be confused with an official Steam Deck compatibility guarantee. Players purchasing specifically for handheld use should therefore expect that some configuration or compatibility issues could occur. Overall, THE EDITOR stands out because it takes a familiar political murder mystery and explores it from the perspective of the people controlling what the public reads. Its combination of headline selection, photo editing, newspaper management, branching consequences, and ethical decision-making creates a distinctive experience. The underlying systems are intentionally accessible rather than deeply complicated, but they serve a compelling central idea: every editorial choice has the potential to shape both public perception and the lives of the people involved. For players who enjoy narrative games with moral ambiguity, meaningful choices, mystery, and replayable outcomes, it provides a refreshingly different interpretation of interactive journalism.
