It's funny that my first review was about Greyhill Incident. And this game reminded me of it. Unfortunately the same problems. Talking about myself, I am a HUGE fan of UFO projects and wait for every single thing about it. But nowadays it definitely fails to impress. So, we have fine visuals, REALLY disturbing sounds and an interesting story, at least at first. But what happens next? We encounter our first alien in the house and that's it. It made me laugh so hard. Though, I see that it is more about our perception of aliens and the way we would like to see them. But I don't like it at all. Pink humanoid following you when you don't look at it is very stuffy and old. The gameplay itself made some of my movements weird cause I couldn't find the last artifact for long despite the fact that I was always following the narrative. One day, we will see a worthy UFO game without strong cthulhu inspiration and certainly without that old sci-fi looking at aliens.
The Echo Paradox is an indie walking simulator with mild sci-fi / horror elements. In this game you start in an underground secret facility where you enter a portal and travel to various realms. In these realms the goal is to collect weird alien keys that look like little pyramids. The realms include a farmhouse with grey aliens, a winter village with a skinwalker, a medival village with cultists, and a christmas house with Krampus. (Yes you read that right...). The game takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete and another 30 minutes to clean up achievements and discover a small hidden "Backrooms" level. + The game is light hearted and fun at times. It doesn't take itself seriously. + The UFOs in the first level are fun to watch. +/- There is somewhat of an interesting story, but it is not explained well. - The game is low budget and it shows. - The environments are nonsensical. It seems like the developer bought some random assets and threw them together to make a game. Krampus? Really? Was he on sale?! - The aliens in the first level look ridiculous. - The sound design is cheap and below average. - No interesting puzzles to solve. Very cheap and low budget, but it has it's moments as a casual walking simulator. Barely a pass. Overall: 5.5/10
This "game" is really just a demo, maybe of something bigger to come(?). There was no challenge to any of the levels, as you're basically guided on what to do from start to finish. There are a few creepy moments here and there, especially near the beginning with the UFO/aliens - reminded me of F.E.A.R. a bit - but you quickly realize that their isn't much harm in what you see/hear. It's all psychological. Which would be fine if the game were longer than 3 hours (and I took my sweet and thorough time exploring everything.) The story was incomplete, meaning you never really understand why you're doing what your doing, and the closing act and "explanation" didn't explain much of anything. I was really just glad to be done with it, honestly.
Had high hopes for this game, but I don't like it. Spent hour walking around in circles in the snow in the woods with no idea what to do. Two lights and a raggedy building you can't interact with anything in it. I'm bored. There was no story buildup or anything. Just go here, go there and go to sleep. BOOOOOOO !
So I dont think this is what the game was going for, but I found it HILARIOUS!! It was like watching a B Movie horror movie, and I mean this in the BEST way possible! It had me laughing so hard but it was still very fun! Lots of cool visuals and set pieces! I think the last few levels could have used a bit more "stalker" enemies that are a bit more deadly - that said I enjoyed it thoroughly giving large inspiration from cabin in the woods
Had a lot of fun with this one but in the last hour of the game my flashlight bugged out and broke, managed to get by without it until the last 20 minutes, restarting, verifying files nothing helped and the entire section was unplayable without it. Had to watch the end of the game on Youtube.
Great small game :)
Buggy, Gamebreaking bugs multiple times when saving and quitting. I cant even progress in the second section after ending my gaming session and reopening it.
