40 years in the making, The Comeback King is a light-hearted, mildly satirical retro boxing management game set in the UK in the 1980s. Take on a has-been boxer and manage his career. Decide who he'll fight, train him up and send him into the ring! Can you guide your boxer to a Championship title?

About
"HE MIGHT BE DOWN... BUT HE'S NOT OUT!"
"Ten years ago he was the next big thing. The Golden boy. Championship material. But it all went south, see? He picked up some bad injuries, and his scumbag manager ran off with all the dosh. So now he wants it back. He wants one last crack at the title, before he gets too old. But he needs a manager. Think you've got the bottle?
"TIME TO PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS THEN."
In The Comeback King, you're the manager of a faded fighter battling to win his first championship title. You manage the money, the trainers, the gyms, the tactics - but you don't control your boxer. During a match, you can shout out instructions (and maybe he'll follow your advice) and between rounds you can towel him down and patch him up. Otherwise, you'll sit there on the edge of your seat, peering through your fingers as the drama unfolds before you. Did you choose the right opponent? Did training concentrate on the right areas? Should you have invested more time in tactical coaching? Did you bring enough bandages? Will your boxer be a Punchbag Pawn or... The Comeback King?!

From designer Ian Williams:
This game is a slightly delayed sequel to 'Boxing Manager', an 8-bit classic that I released in the mid-1980s for the Spectrum 48K. You can still play it on an emulator.
This sequel retains many of the features of the original game but I've added more interaction during the matches, plus more gyms, the Shop, more choice of opponents, a refined Popularity system, full ranking table, entrance music and much more.
If there's a demand for it, I also have plans for a 'Downtown' expansion, which will add criminal elements like bribes, dives, illegal tonics and dodgy bets. Cushti!
No robots were harmed in the development of this game.
AI art was used for placeholders during the initial stages of development but these were all replaced with hand-drawn art by our artist Ozan D. This game contains no AI-generated art assets, code or SFX.
*There's now a Referee! He has great bouncy hair. :D

Enjoying a bunch. Pretty straight forward and keeps you wanting one more match.
a classic, clean management game with a simple core mechanic that can hook you for just one more bout. It will make you tear your hair out if you attempt the hard difficulties however. Would love to see greater boxer customization and more levers to pull in terms of management.
Its great! Nicely polished game. Great soundtrack. Matches look great, nice atmosphere. What you would hope games would be in the 80s. Can`t wait to continue my game.

A nice little game to pick up and play—even if "just one more round" can quickly turn into another hour of gameplay before you know it. And that’s despite the fact that there isn't actually a huge amount to do. I really like the pixel-art style, and there aren't many boxing manager games on the market anyway. Unfortunately, you don't have much time to achieve your goal, which makes earning money a bit of a slow process. For the future—or a sequel—I’d love to see features like building your own boxing stable, upgrading training rooms with better equipment, contract negotiations, and the like. In any case, I’m enjoying the game, and that’s the most important thing for any title. The developer is responsive and fixes bugs quickly—thanks to Ian.
Definitely has a 'one more match' feel to it, like other reviewers say. I do worry the gameplay loop is maybe a bit straightforward and that it's just a case of 'bigger number beats smaller number', but I'm enjoying it for now. Barring injuries - which can swing a fight, but which can be mitigated by stocking up on items - it feels like you can predict the result of a fight before it starts. I'm only playing normal difficulty, so maybe it's different on higher difficulties. Will need to try that out.
I've now put 21 hours into this game, I find it very addictive and there is a charm to it. Have had great fun playing it and the developer is very friendly and responds to queries and questions. Also the fact its an improved remake of a spectrum game is a bonus :)
Very fun game! Looking forward to playing more and climbing up the rankings. If I could make a suggestion, I think it would benefit from even a simple character creation system that could randomly generate your opponents to make them look unique, as there currently aren't very many character models to speak of.
