was worried about the directional combat and the time mechanic. really enjoy both.

If you enjoyed The Witcher 3, this is the game for you! Obviously headed by former CDPR devs who worked on the witcher 3, there is a ton of dna from that game here. Great characters, story, quests, soundtrack, even the clunky movement is back! The new time mechanic in the game where you basically have 30 days in game, (only progresses by doing quest, activities, and leveling skills not exploring the open world) to finish the game is an interesting addition. Apparently though if you dont finish it within the time limit it doesnt end the game there you can keep playing but with a different ending. I'll have to progress further to see how it really pans out, but it seems like a cool way to make it feel like your choices matter in the game. Not just through dialogue choices but with what quests and activities you decide to do or not do during your playthrough. The only complaints i have so far are the performance is pretty poor. i have to crank up the dlss to performance or ultra performance with frame gen to get anything above 50-60 fps on high settings at 4k and this game isnt groundbreaking in the slightest in the graphical fidelity department. Also the lock on camera during combat is wonky as hell. trying to switch between enemies while trying to engage in the new directional combat here can be frustrating at times. That being said everything else about this game more than makes up for those few shortcomings. Im probably a little biased since the witcher 3 is one of my favorite games of all time and this game is pretty much just an evolution of that, but this is probably my favorite game ive played this year so far.
You know really excited for this game, but the performance and controller issues are making it difficult to enjoy. I started by getting a solid 60 FPS in the tutorial area on Low settings, the tutorial must use a location specifically made just for it, but as soon as the prologue started and I loaded the open world, the performance became extremely inconsistent. Constant frame drops and texture pop-ins make the game feel poorly optimised even when using both FSR and DLSS on performance. I honestly don't understand why the performance drops so dramatically, as there doesn't seem to be anything demanding enough to justify it. It feels like some bloated UE5 features running in the background. Playing with a controller has also been giving me issues. I'm using a PS4 controller, and the game seems to fight between controller and keyboard/mouse input. The D-pad jumps between menu options, pressing X doesn't work to confirm selections or choose dialogue options, and after using the keyboard to get through the dialogue, I can't move using the joystick because the game won't recognise that I'm using a controller unless I press X. This leads to me awkwardly jumping in front of NPCs every time I finish a conversation. I assume the controller issues will be fixed in time, it's just the fact that the game recommends you to play using a controller and has these issues. However, the performance is another issue entirely, and it's just giving me Bloodlines 2 flashbacks. Coming to this after finishing playing Onimusha: Way of the Sword just highlighted how bad things are with UE5.
awesome stuff so far
Vampires. Great story. Give in to the hunger and suck em dry.
