The Beginner's Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.

Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.57/day in the week to Aug 10 → 15/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I don't even really know what to say. I love this game. I bought and played through the whole game in only 90 minutes and I came out of it with what might be one of my favourite experiences I've had with a game. Please play it if you can

so good! a little wonky on my steam deck (the controls) but otherwise fun and had an engaging story.
Very deep and cool experience overall!
Failed interpretations, and miscommunications: bane of our social existence... A good case study, to get a quick hit of inspiration: even if it is all fictional, or especially as it is fictional...
the beginner's guide is many things. it is an incredibly effective commentary on a player's sense of entitlement to a piece of art and parasocial tendencies that arise in an audience especially with 'troubled' artists - we love them, we know them, how sad it is that they don't realise we Get them, why can't they see? we're what we needed all along, this is the true respite of art, recognition is the path to inner peace! if you're a fan of wreden's style this is obviously worth a play; if the stanley parable is metacommentary on playing a game, then the beginner's guide is about making one, or making many, or questioning the constraints a game must conform to (must it be playable?), or wishing your game had an audience, or knowing that was never the point. i think many of us have the tendency to assume that a piece that speaks to us so viscerally must have been made to speak to anyone at all. we split hairs and pry open doors and read interviews to see the genetic makeup of a work that so simply altered us, with a well-intentioned but ever-present disregard for why it came to be in the first place. of course, that is what i'm currently doing. maybe the beginner's guide is a way to express wreden's own emotions, or maybe it's about the deteriorating practise of (from the creator's perspective) over-analysis by an audience [overthinking, overanalysing, separates the body from the mind..]
