The Beginner's Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.57/day in the week to Aug 10 → 15/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is a game that I keep coming back to every couple of years I remember the first time I played it. I had just finished The Stanley Parable and wanted to check what other games this developer has made. I found the beginner's guide and went in blind. I wasn't ready, and it stuck with me. It's a simple game. You are presented with the games of a developer, and you go through them as the narrator talks to you about them. It's like you are in an art gallery and a tour guide is explaining the artworks to you. except the tour guide is friends with the artist. To hear someone's thoughts as they try to understand another person's mind and feelings through their artistic work says more about the narrator than the artist. There is a lot to unpack in this game, and I can't get into it without spoilers, really. If you like conversational, introspective works of art, then you will love this game. The artist sees the work as whole. The viewer sees the work as hollow. Which is true?
This game is a work of art

Incredibly artistic! There is no words to describe what makes The Beginner's Guide perfect. I think that fact adds to how this game breaks the mold of conventional game design and narrative. It is simply art.
Truly a one of its kind experience, i felt a lot of things along the span of my playthrough
jesus christ.
Well it truly is... Something. Make sure you're not in a too bad place mentally before starting, I know that a week ago it would have had me spiraling in my own anxiety. The game itself isn't scary or what, not even spooky. It makes you think about yourself. I really don't know what to say. To whoever needs to read this, take care.
I never really forget this game and it constantly intrudes my thoughts on creation as a whole. so soooo beautiful too at times.
I personally have so much and nothing to say about this game simultaineously. It touched me deeply and if you are a human being i believe it will get some things moving inside you as well. For me it was an opportunity to stop and reflect
just like during the door puzzle
. For more in-depth thought that I fully agree with see comment of Bloodevoir (https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198155900778/recommended/303210).
