For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. 07/10 Verpackt in einer Story, hangelt man sich von Rätselspiel zu Rätselspiel. Technisch alles ok.
I never played the original so can't compare, but I thought this one was well done. The controls are not designed the best for a mouse and keyboard but usable. The only puzzle I skipped was near the end and purely a memory of past events rather than an actual puzzle. I just wasn't interested in going back to find the answers. Some people complain about the final but I didn't mind it.
It's a parcheesi type game and does have strategy. It's not purely random.
Overall I found it to be a fun game 42/50 coins on a first playthrough. Fun acting and the puzzles are overall fair and still a good headscratcher at times. However the final "puzzle" really annoyed me, and is the only one I auto-solved, full details in the spoiler text below. Being the last bit of the game it means where I was originally thinking "I really enjoyed this game" to "I like the game, ending can go do one though." Hence the negative review, if steam allowed scores I'd probably knock a couple of points off for the ending but still give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
The final "puzzle" is a board game with dice rolls, so it feels random whether you do well/badly. Also being a boardgame if you lose it starts back at the beginning so each attempt takes longer.
I have been around for the original. I still have the game on cd-rom as it required a 2x speed. I believe it cost around 80 dollars probably 3x when adjusted for inflation. I am very early in the game and I am impressed so far. Really like the lantern. Very much wish that this version was available back then. I think I like the older game version of Stauf from the original
Caveat before review: I played and enjoyed the original back when I was in kindergarten, so I do have some bias. This is how a remake should work; take the concept and story of the original, remove the limitations of the era it was made in, and expand upon it. The old FMV era gets a bad rep, but there were some gems. Now we can see a better representation of the intent of vision. Atmosphere? Check. We have the creepy abandoned mansion vibes, and amazing music is back. I don't know if the new tracks were done by The Fat Man & Team Fat again, or if they were just faithfully remade; but it was on point. Puzzles? We have them, not the soul crushing ones, but also not baby easy ones either. Even has a hint system that is a reward for exploration and completionism. Its also a good variety of different puzzles, that prevents the feelings of repeated content for padded time. What happened to the FMV? Well they now have modern in environment cutscenes, and it looks like a good amount of work went into the facial expressions. They help the story unfold in the same spirit of the original. I'm also glad they brought the soup scene back. Now for better or worse, it is not nearly as campy as the original. Personally I felt neutral on the change in tone, as it still told the story. Its like the difference between the old Friday the 13th movies, and the reboot; camp to more serious. Easter eggs? Got a few of nods to both the original game, as well as some more modern references. Might get a chuckle, a smile, or an eyeroll from them. One negative though is that not every model is good enough for the lighting, even with the spirit lantern flashlight mechanic. I had an instance where I saw a critical item, and thought it was an innocuous item that fit the theme of the rest of the room; so I ignored it for 40 minutes, as I was trying to find it. Overall, if you enjoy puzzle games, this isn't a bad one. If you enjoyed the original, this is a nice way to experience it, as it isn't the same game, but will give you that nostalgic feeling at the same time. However YMMV on the price point as I did 100% the game, only having to go through again to get one that I missed by solving one of the puzzle before failing too many times, and it only took me 10.4 hours total
Great revamp of the classic CD Rom game. The storyline has been updated to flow better and you view things pretty much in sequence, unlike the original game. For the most part, (maybe not every one), the puzzles feel more organically placed in the house. It's like Stauf actually built the puzzles into the house design itself. Makes it feel more immersive. Otherwise it's a great tribute to the original, keeps most of the plotlines and makes a bit more sense story-wise. The acting is cheesey fun, like a modern video game would be. All in all I had a great time.
Fun puzzles, cool graphics. Never played the original but I think it stands on its own pretty well.
This was my first introduction to the 7th Guest games so I'm unable to compare but I really enjoyed this game. (Though swapping between the 7th Guest and House Flipper 2 made me want to clean up Stauf's house myself!) This game was longer and more challenging that some games I have played in this genre and the story made it interesting for me. The puzzles were not too easy and not too hard, and if you're stuck, there is a Help option. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.
I was really excited to play this even though i hadn't played the original. It looked really fun and seemed intricate but after the first few rooms it became clear that the game wanted to hold your hand and any exploration outside of the "Dora the explorer" style guidance became quite frustrating quite fast. I spent almost 7 hours in this game. I think three hours were spent playing the actual game. one hour or so on the final fight, and almost three hours were spent getting frustrated and wandering around because i couldn't see things in the dark or because i wasn't suppose to be there yet. I appreciate the work the actors put in but some of the newspaper clippings looked AI generated which felt disappointing. Overall It was really short for a 20$ game and felt almost infantilizing with the hand holding style of gameplay.
great game but pls fix the controls on the last game and other bugs
