About

TETRACHROMA adds a new dimension to the block stacking action of classic tetromino stacking games: the colors of the blocks matter! Pieces appear in two or more colors, and to clear a line, every block in the line must match.

Countless attempts have been made to achieve a proper follow up to the mechanics pioneered by Tetris, and while most of them go their own way to create their own thing (Dr. Mario, Puyo Puyo, etc.), TETRACHROMA is the closest thing I've personally ever seen to a proper follow-up. The infusion of color matching on top of line making is challenging, disorienting, and outright genius, as if it were made by a madman who also plays some complicated form of chess with rules that make your head spin. You can barely manage two colors starting out but then they add a total of 4, and if and when you can manage that, you'll feel like a gaming god who is thinking 1-2 steps ahead of the game. There's also different modes and customizable aspects of the game, so replay value is through the roof. Aesthetics and music are uncanny, and almost give a liminal feel, except everything is running off the chipset for a Gameboy Advance. For some reason, the backgrounds and songs reminded me of something that would be in a terminally ill patient's hospital room or in a nursing home for people with dementia. Not sure if that's what was intended but it's definitely a distinct vibe that can be unsettling for me. (This is neither a positive or negative thing) The game runs perfect on the Deck because of its GBA potato graphics, it's a perfect on-the-go fidget to play at my in-laws during Sunday dinner. Bottom line, this game is revolutionary to Tetris and if you're a fan of the game, you should buy it.

The best "falling blocks" game on Steam! I'd legit want to see Pajitnov take a look at this. Please add multiplayer!
Great game! Easy recommend for Tetris enthusiasts. Tetrachroma is a great example of how adding a simple mechanic to a timeless classic can completely change the strategy. The colour spread works very well for the concept, and the various modes are a nice representation of the main variations of Tetris / block games through the years. Standard and Wild offer an easy entry level, and console and arcade are the toughest to clear in my opinion. There is a strange difficulty curve in the marathon, where generally the first stage (out of four) is the hardest. It's not entirely bad however, because it also means that you lose less time on failed attempts, which is less frustrating than it could've been.
The REAL Puyo Puyo x Tetris
How do you make tetris hard? Colors. The colors matter. They matter a lot.
One of the best iterations of Tetris-likes. Absolutely nails the game mechanics whilst adding an interesting variation on the original rules. You can still play with the original Tetris ruleset and it does this just as well, if not better than any other version of Tetris. The visuals are perhaps not the most appealing, but they do the job more than well enough.
it has a tgm mode
very interesting take on block stackers!
Friendship ended with TGM, TETRACHROMA is my new best friend
