About

TaleSpire is a beautiful way to play pen and paper RPGs online. Bring your stories to life and embark upon campaigns together with your friends, regardless of where you are in the world.
With Talespire, the beauty and physicality of tabletop gaming meet the endless possibilities of a digital world. Here you can collaboratively build your worlds without compromising the handcrafted aesthetic of using traditional miniatures.
As a player, you can take on the mantle of multiple heroes and creatures, manage your stats, and express yourself using the growing emote system. Perform dice rolls directly on the board and interact with your environment — at least, as far as your GM will let you!
As a GM, you can dazzle and thrill your friends by building expansive maps, setting up shots, and controlling immersive soundscapes to bring all your delightful and devious designs to life.
TaleSpire is not tied to a specific game or ruleset. Whether you’re running a one-shot or a sprawling campaign, if it's on a square grid then we have your back. We are now in Early Access, so now is your chance to raise up your sword, rally your friends, and take your next adventure online with us.

Setting the stage for your story takes no time at all with Talespire, but even if you forget to prep, it can all be added in while you play. Want to destroy a wall to reveal a secret passage? Do it! Want to rain down piles of gold from the heavens? You have the power. At any moment during your adventure, you (or multiple GMs) can jump into building mode and change the world without interrupting anything else. Our persistent online boards can be created at a moment’s notice, and everything is synchronized in real-time as you dice-roll your way to glory.

It’s dangerous to go alone, but luckily we have a bunch of tools that can help, and all are as pleasing as they are useful. Beautiful dice, rulers and area markers, a range of emotes, and special modes for turn-based combat and cinematic sequences are at your disposal.
Pick from a plethora of pieces to create your scenes! The current roster stands at 280 miniatures, 2100 tiles and props, and 60 unique audio tracks. Our library is ever-expanding; we produce fresh asset packs every month.
TaleSpire boards are designed to be easily shared, whether with friends or with the wider community on sites like TalesBazaar or TalesTavern. You can copy sections of your boards (slabs) and paste them as text outside of TaleSpire. Simply paste the text back into TaleSpire to summon the slab to your hand.
Being in Early Access we still have plenty of adventures ahead of us. We have an active Discord community, which you can find in the social section, and alongside your feedback we’re looking forward to developing the game’s features. So come, journey with us a while.

At a first glance, this looks like a cool tool for TTRPGs, BUT. Having to spend more for each other player to join your game with the "guest" version is scummy. A regular D&D group is 4 to 5 players, at the moment of writing this, each seat costs 15$. At least, seats are like chairs in your house, when a player leaves, the seat is vacated. While that makes the long term costs better than subscription based alternatives, the up-front cost is unpleasant.

Amazing platform for remotely playing tabletop games with friends. The "seats" feature is SO CONSUMER FRIENDLY I love it, it works like this: A copy of the game is $25. If you already have the game, you can buy another "seat" for $15, and now any (1) friend can join you for any campaign you're a part of. It works exactly how you would WANT it to work. If your friend leaves, another can hop right in their place. If you're not online, your friend can STILL PLAY that campaign using your seat! You bring an extra seat to EVERY CAMPAIGN you're in. If you buy multiple, they stack! The devs could make more money just *not* having this feature and making everyone buy a copy of the game for the full $25, but they took the time and effort to build and implement the feature because it makes the game MORE ENJOYABLE. There's some quality of life features that they're still working on implementing, but the game is honestly amazing in it's current state. It's added so much to our D&D sessions. Sharing builds (big or small) is made INCREDIBLY easy by essentially allowing you to highlight an area and Ctrl+C, then send that area as-is via plain text any way you want (text, discord, email, etc.). We've told our players to build their character's campsites however they want, then they send the copied text data to the DM, who can just Ctrl+V it into our campsite! The online community for sharing builds is also vibrant and active. Check out the Tales Tavern website for builds and assets. I'm not affiliated with the devs or anything, just a very pleased customer, player, and part-time DM. Thanks Talespire team.
This product is really cool for early access, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it is missing so many basic features that even Tabletop Simulator had on release (and I don’t mean 1.0, I mean EA release). Lack of mass deletion option (no, control-Z backing doesn’t count). You cannot delete a large body of highlighted objects, and the cut tool doesn’t really count, personally, since you kind of can, but the box tool for deletion is very clunky. It’s especially problematic if you have objects that are close together since the things it selects are finicky as ♥♥♥♥. Lack of free placement (grid snapping is a pain, and half the time it bugs out to be just slightly off to the side, so it’s not consistent). It can be done, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pain, and when I have to look it up to fix it, you failed. Control tools are mostly fine, but the UI feels very clunky to me. I’ll take that as me being more familiar with traditional UIs like Kings Maps, World Gen, and Tabletop, but damn, I don’t know—it just feels like they are traditional for a good reason. Grid snapping and grid line-up—oh, what the ♥♥♥♥ happened here??? Look, if you’re going to use a hard grid system, that’s fine, but the grid needs to be very consistent, and the line-up or guides need to be there to help with stuff like elevation changes and lining things up. If I have to get used to the idea of where things are, I’m sorry, but in 2025 going on 2026, it’s way too behind the times. Even if you can overcome it via brute force and a lot of attention, that doesn’t make it good—it makes you stubborn. You can’t flip objects from an X-axis lay state to a Y-axis. Bro, you modeled a 3D object; it has all sides modeled. I don’t know what brainlet said that as an excuse on Reddit for why you can’t make a gun from the community that’s laying down stand up, but that’s not how things work unless you did some really funky-ass programming. At that point, I have questions about why you used the Unity engine if you didn’t want to use its ability to do basic ♥♥♥♥. Also, physics isn’t an excuse either because basically no object has physics at all—which is fine, and I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere that it can when playing—but holy crap, guys, no physics and you can’t do anything along the lines of rotating an object??? Lack of high-level cloning for objects. Yeah, no—if you have an object or set of objects like a room, you can duplicate it, but if you want to draw a line with it, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ naw. This is a feature I can see justifiably people saying most things don’t have, and you’re mostly right, but it’s a huge L when Tabletop can do it, and most 2D ones and 2.5Ds can do that stuff easily. Though you’re hitting a niche, it’s still competition as you’re convincing people to spend even more money to use your system. Lack of level locking. Look, this isn’t essential, but again, grid system—like, what are you doing, guys? And there’s a fair bit more, but I think the idea has gotten across pretty clearly at this point. I know some people are going to see this and just comment stuff like “get gud” or “you’re lazy,” and to the first one—a system shouldn’t fight you just to use it how it’s intended. For the second… yeah, that’s true, but I have an excuse/reason: learnability and ease of use are very directly tied to the usability of a product and its adoption. Though that’s something we in the TRPG market seem to forget and just grit through everything and anything because, sadly, we are a culmination of hyper niches and there’s no consistency (RIP). Now, what I do like about this program and why I would recommend it is that there really isn’t another program that gives you the importability and model family it has. This program was clearly built with building specific scenes in mind and certain D&D option/assisting programs like Hero Forge. For this, I won’t lie—doing it in any other program is either less graphically impressive (though much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easier), and to the same presentation level and integration? Way harder. If you want to get your heroes/models to move, animate, have reactions, trigger switches, maps, and all that DM-to-player stuff, I can say from experience that unless you basically program it yourself, there isn’t another 3D software map builder that has this all built into it—especially not as nicely looking and as easy to use. Because for all its quirks, this program isn’t the most insane thing to learn. It took me what felt like 20 hours before I actually understood this program, and five hours every time I needed to do something that the engine just decides isn’t going to work today for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason. I have built about three maps now using some custom but mainly existing assets, and the hours it took to build them and constantly fight the game have been nothing if not omega-level frustrating and have frankly turned me off of the program. I know people who use this program like it because they can use 3D models and move around and so on, and for people not near each other—or maybe even in person—this helps to further fill that gap we all have of no DM mode in BG3 and Wizards of the Coast’s 3D game thing being probably absolute dog water. I really want to like this program, but frankly, in its current state, unless you really, really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ want to do stuff in 3D, I don’t recommend it. One of those moments when Steam should have a “mixed” or “it’s complicated” tag, damn.
This is an amazing VTT game, where you can literally just use other maps and customise them, or make your own from scratch. There's a vast array of different things to build with, and quite a lot of free minis. It also has a unique art style and looks great. Furthermore, it's not difficult to learn at all. I've ran over about 150 hours of actual D&D gaming, with the rest being used for map making. So far, myself and my players have no regrets with using it, and switching to online certainly has its benefits. However, something has to be said with the direction of development. It pains me to say it, since the game shines in many areas and the developers in the discord are quite vocal and open to talk about people's likes and dislikes without getting angsty, which is great. But, the lack of substantial features for the game like; fog of war, mini creation, dice customisation (Seriously why isn't this in the game yet when the whole game revolves around these dice?), extra immersion features like weather or visual effects. We understand development of a game takes time, nobody is debating that. But for a game that has been in early-access development for 4 years now, and that doesn't have these fun, appealing features you can understand why people get annoyed. It's also the fact that many of these features are "Planned" on their roadmap, and their inclusion onto the planned section dates back a couple years sometimes. Their huge focus on modding seems to have dampened their focus on other built-in features unfortunately. Edit: I have to comment on the above paragraph since in hind-sight I was quite ignorant to the development process. Yes I stand-by the fact that modding has taken priority over other features, and that I wish development was quicker. However, having spoken here and there to the devs in their discord, and looking at their conversations with others, I can see why development is so slow. It's simply because its not easy work at all, and they do knuckle-down to get features out as quick as they can, and with the least amount of bugs possible which is so good to see from modern-day development teams. Take what I said with a grain of salt, besides the things I stand-by. Although, despite this, I would recommend it. Who knows, I may be proved wrong in some months time. If you need a VTT thats reliable, easy to use and that runs/looks good, then Talespire is definitely one of the best options.
