Worth getting, though I wish there was a free option for players to join who haven't bought the base version. It's tough trying to get a game together when the price to entry for everyone is 25.00 and we run 8-9 players.

This game allows players to create (or simply utilize) various 3d maps in their dungeons and dragons sessions. The assets are extremely varied, with the community constantly creating new things for a person to enjoy. The maps, once past a certain size, may strain a low-end computer given the graphical intensity of said maps, but one with a strong enough GPU should have no problem with even the most detailed of slabs.

I've used this for over 30 sessions of my Discord online D&D game, and it's been so nice. There are a lot of little things that you need to adjust for when making maps and things, but once they connected with HeroForge.com and all my players could have their little guys represented on the map it was just so fun. The community makes all kinds of minis too, so you can a ton of mileage from that, too. All it's missing is community made objects and tilesets for maps, and this $25 purchase would easily be worth its metaphorical weight in gold.

It's an amazing software. Still WIP but already insane One bad thing that you should be aware of is: To add custom characters via Heroforge you do need to pay Heroforge. Also, something that would be really cool is: a way to customize what appears in each television, monitor, computer from the map. Overall rating imo: 4,5

I don't think I'm a very artistic person, and yet I have a deep desire to be creative. TaleSpire is an amazing outlet for my creativity in two ways. The first, more obvious, way is that it's simply a canvas on which you can "paint" using the wide array of included assets. The second, I think more satisfying, way is figuring out how to use those assets to create something that they might not have been intended for. For example, there isn't a piano asset, however using other components (like bones and crates) in a clever way, you can build your own piano. Maybe, to you, that sounds like too much work. Well, not to worry, you can search through tons (literally thousands) of user-made "slabs" (as they're called) that you can drop into your builds with a simple click. These slabs may be as small as a piano (of which there are four) or as large as an entire map/dungeon. Similarly, there's a huge amount of user-made models to use for your characters/monsters/Space Marines/etc. To further the immersion, TaleSpire has a whole slew of options for the atmosphere alone. There's a variety of different songs to play and immersive sound effects (think spooky wind blowing with an occasional ghostly scream or crow's caw) to use. You can also move the sun around to make it whatever time of day, or night, you desire. I've spent over 200 hours in TaleSpire and am looking at a lot more. I haven't actually played a game with it yet, but I consider my purchase to be well worth the time I've gotten out of it so far. Be aware that to use TaleSpire with other people either they need to have a copy of the "game", or you need to buy seats for them, or you have to get creative in screen sharing. I understand the criticism regarding buying seats on top of the base product. I think it would be nice to have one seat built in if for no other reason than to be able to test it out with someone to make sure it'll run well. TaleSpire isn't perfect, by any means. Some categories of assets have a woeful number of options compared to others. Fog of war hasn't been implemented yet, which results in players being able to see through walls. (This can be remedied manually by hiding areas, however.) While you can import models (like from HeroForge) into TaleSpire, you can't import other things to use as building assets. And, of course, the aforementioned issue with buying seats. There's a lot more in the package that I haven't touched upon, largely due to not having used TaleSpire as a GM tool yet. You can make use of user-made addons (called symbiotes) to facilitate running the game. I perceive these do things like bring character sheets or other materials into the program. Regardless, yes, I recommend TaleSpire, especially as a creative tool. Easy to pick up and use. You'll be making cool stuff very quickly and then, after a while, looking back on that stuff and laughing at how it pales in comparison to the even cooler stuff you're making now.
