This game's music: 10/10 This game's asthetic: 10/10 This game's gameplay: 10/10 This game's price: 10/10 Seriously this game is sick. One attack for each character, shuffle play is intense and fun, maps are amazing, just all around fantastic game. Buy it already. I need more people to whip.
WONDERFUL Game; Empty/Broken Matchmaking.
Amazingly polished and adorable game that evokes a nostalgic GBA-style kirby aesthetic. It's got interesting mechanics for each slime, and each game mode's mechanics throw a different but fun twist into the gameplay. It's a great few hours of fun if you have the friends for it. Why can't I recommend this game, then? Because the game is ONLY functional with friends, meaning the online community is non-existent. If you're hoping to play online, gift this game to a few friends first. Since day 1 of this game's launch (and I got this as soon as it came out to play with a friend,) there has not been a single online game I could find when searching in the lobby. It will just leave you waiting for a game for infinity. The same goes for hosting a match, you can't get anyone to join who you haven't organized a play session with, because literally nobody is there. The service just doesn't work properly. At all. On top of that, every game mode is designed to be played against other players, there is no computer or vs AI mode you can access. This becomes a bigger disappointment when you realize that this means you'll never see the massive 50+ player games that the trailers boast about, Unless you're popular as hell and have a truck-load of game copies that is. TL;DR - Game is polished: it looks, sounds, and plays wonderfully, but as of right now DONT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE FRIENDS. Online matchmaking is in a beta version which sucks because that's practically all it's designed for. I really, REALLY wanna see this game grow and thrive, but I can't recommend until online mode improves, and/or they create modes that allow AI players, or just more PvE content of any kind in general.
The Good:
- Very polished - Cute aesthetic that brings memories of old kirby games - Great soundtrack (and it's a good thing that lobby music is catchy because you'll be hearing it til they fix this game's online problems) - Unique and fun mechanics for each slime on the large roster - Plethora of fun game modes - Potential* for 50-60+ players to play in a single match (*see bottom)
The Bad:
- Poor matchmaking. The server list will always be empty; there's no infrastructure to online. - Online has been in beta since the game's launch. No signs of it ever being fixed or improved. - You can pretty much have to have friends to play this game due to non-working public online mode. - No CPU or AI players to fill the a match roster in place of players.
The Ugly:
- Due to the circumstances listed above, you'll never be able to play in the massive 50-60+ player matches that the game boasts as it's main selling feature, which is a huge disappointment. - I really, REALLY wanna see this game grow and thrive, but I can't recommend until online mode improves, and/or they create modes that allow AI players, or just more PvE content of any kind in general.

EDIT 3/1/2023: Changed the review as I now believe that my original review was extremely harsh. I actually really liked this game when I played it at Play NYC 2017 (I think?). It seemed to be fairly popular too, which is a good thing because it shows one thing this game really needs: an audience. The game itself has stellar presentation, with nice graphics and music, has great gameplay, and is generally very fun. This made me EXTREMELY excited for this game. So, you might ask, Why am I giving this game a negative review? I just couldn't play it. The game has no form of singleplayer content, which wouldn't be so bad if the multiplayer had a large enough following that you could always get into a match with at least one player. The other problem is that, as hinted at before, the multiplayer is almost non-existent. I didn't have any friends that I could recommend this game to, either. I wonder if the developers are still working on this game (The last update was in 2020 for a discord meetup), as there is a ton of potential in this game, and if any form of singleplayer is added, then I will update (and change) my review to a positive one as I genuinely want to love this game.
You can't use more than 4 controllers, useless game if you want +4 couch party. I'll revisit this review if they fix this.
Played this at PAX, was extremely fun. Reccomended to anyone who enjoys fun.
I love this game. I truly do, it has fun gameplay mechanics and art style. i know i have 0.4 hours on the game but i enjoyed the game. The only reason im giving it a bad recommendation is because it crashs on start now after an update, i hope the devs fix this.
Super Slime Arena is a solid local multiplayer game.
However there is no single player and by other accounts I gather online multiplayer it at best sparsely populated and at worste completely dead. That being the case you should only buy this game if you intend to play locally. What really makes this game is the stunning cast of 32 slimes and game modes that allow you to play through every single slime in a single match. Each slime only has one attack, but the attacks are very different and you'll probably average 15 seconds per slime so it doesn't get tedious. Attacks range from simple punches, to lightning bolts and snow balls that build up in size, to traps and slow triggering explosions. They are also not at all balanced. However, given that most game modes either make all players the same slimes, or give all players all the slimes, this feature is actually a strength of the game as it keeps it interesting. Game modes on offer are described in the features, so I won't describe them here. I will say that there is a good range that offer more than the bog standard deathmatch and survival. The maps are hit and miss. Some are good and others are poor and incentivise tedious gameplay, most are at a suitable standard. On balance Super Slime Arena is one of the best local multiplayer arena combat games steam has to offer.
