About
Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds.
Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.
Subnautica 2 is being crafted as a single-player experience that you can optionally play in online co-operative multiplayer with up to three friends. You can choose from four pre-designed characters, with more characters and customization options coming throughout Early Access. Work together to explore long-forgotten ruins and learn to adapt to a planet that might not want you there.
To survive the depths and make this planet your home, you’ll need to utilize all the tools at your disposal. Traverse vibrant and breathtaking biomes with your Tadpole submersible. Design and customize bases to return to when your adventures push you beyond the safety of shallow waters. As Early Access develops, so too will your array of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Upgrades will help push you beyond your boundaries and unlock the secrets of this strange world.
Scan and study a rich world of biodiversity to understand life here. Discover everything from the smallest creatures to towering Leviathans. Experience the wonder, and sometimes danger, lurking around every corner. Every dive is an opportunity to uncover why the ship's AI is so determined to continue the mission and what mysteries lie beneath the surface of this breathtaking new frontier.
Subnautica 2 is an Early Access title in active development. Throughout this journey, we will continuously expand the world with additional biomes, creatures, and craftables, while expanding the narrative. You may encounter bugs, in-development features, and performance issues. Your feedback is the cornerstone of our development process. Join us and help shape the next chapter of the Subnautica universe.
Subnautica 2 is being developed by Unknown Worlds, the studio behind the award-winning Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. Our journey began with the 2003 Half-Life mod Natural Selection, and today we have evolved into a fully remote, globally distributed team spanning from the United States to the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and beyond. Defined by a philosophy of open development and over a decade of community-focused innovation, we invite you to dive back into the depths with a studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the survival genre.

Pros The game feels a bit darker and less colourful than the original, which I like. The story is interesting so far. I like the idea of being reprinted by AI, the hallucinations, and the Axum, who seem to be absent now despite having been seen relatively recently. The Collector Leviathan seems interesting so far. Mutations are also a good idea, although I would like to see more options. The Metal Farm looks like a step towards automation. I haven’t tested it properly yet, but I like the direction. If you have advanced AI and technology, you should eventually be able to automate some tasks in your base. Cons There simply isn’t enough content yet. Right now, this feels like a game for 2–3 days, and because of that alone I cannot recommend it yet. You also cannot kill smaller hostile fish. I’m not talking about Leviathans, but creatures like the Marrowbreach around Camp One can become annoying when they keep attacking while you are trying to explore. Smaller hostile creatures should be possible to kill or permanently remove. Depth is also important to me. The current game reaches around 450+ metres, but I want much more. The original had meaningful areas going well beyond 1000 metres, and I would love Subnautica 2 to eventually go far deeper. Honestly, I would love something like 5000 metres of actual playable content. I also want sonar back, especially if the game becomes much deeper. I would love huge, extremely dark areas where normal lights are not enough and sonar becomes necessary to navigate. I’m also a bit concerned about NoA constantly telling you where to go. Below Zero relied heavily on signals and objective markers, and I didn’t like that. The original Subnautica gave you guidance too, especially with lifepods, but later it increasingly expected you to follow clues and explore for yourself. I much prefer that approach. The Collector Leviathan can also attack you in very shallow water. I have been attacked multiple times while only around 5 metres underwater, which feels strange for such a huge creature. What I want to see More Leviathans, scarier Leviathans, and much larger ones. The Gargantuan Leviathan mods for the original Subnautica clearly show what some fans want. I want creatures that make you stop and think before going deeper. Overall, Subnautica 2 has some very promising ideas, but right now there simply isn’t enough content for me to recommend it.

apart from a few glitches and very poor coding for memory this game could be a lot better ! not happy with the lack of ideas and strength like the other versions this seems rushed and money grabbing. also the dlss is a bad code on this native use should render full not rely on code for dlss. or fake frame insert the game should run native... now await further updates and fixes but at this time dont buy beta or early release not worth the money if they dont update or drag it out for long periods. all hype for cash.
might be early access, but it was full price and unfinished with no release in sight.
I just think the game is boring. Legit feels like all there is to do is swim around and listen to drawn out robot dialogue. It's advertised as a survival game but I can't even fight anything? Half the challenge is gone right there. Exploring felt underwhelming as hell. Discovering blueprints for chairs, beds, dining tables, you know... BASIC furniture that my character should already know how to craft was not exciting. Whenever I ran into an enemy all I had to do to escape was simply swim away. The lack of urgency, excitement, and challenge really makes this game feel more like a swimming simulator rather than survival adventure.
TLDR Subnautica2 is a corporate safe and sterile version of the original Personally, I believe that the reviews are only so high because the original game was much loved. Subnautica 2 is not a worthy successor of the original. The better graphics actually harm this game. The first had a soul, quirks, and therefore some charm. This new game gives corpo slop vibes. There's something missing from it, it feels lifeless in the same way AI generated content feels lifeless. Subnautica 2 feels like a sterile shadow of the first, and that's because the lifelike elements have been removed. The story is not great; "Oh you died? That's fine, we'll just print you in a new body!" Ok, so, what's the point? All consequence and risk have been removed (from a narrative point of view, there are of course mechanical downsides to dying) if the player can just print new bodies. The removal of the survival knife, and the general en-safening / non-violence stance taken on everything in the game is completely ridiculous.
I really wanted to love Subnautica 2, but it just didn't click for me. While the environments and exploration are cool, the story is extremely shallow and superficial. Without a strong narrative to keep me engaged, the survival loop gets repetitive quickly. Great potential, but it just failed to hook me.
Guys this is ♥♥♥♥ for a 2026 game
A huge letdown so far compared to the first game - even when considering it's still in Early Access. I agree with all the other criticism regarding a lack of meaningful content updates since launch and the DEV's refusal to listen to player feedback and instead telling them to go play another game. Well, careful what you wish for because, as it stands, I am absolutely going to play other games and avoiding this one. DEVS - don't alienate your fanbase.
Let me start off by saying this is a great game, and I see why many others like it, and the reason I don't recommend it I can't even put into words. It just doesn't feel like a subnautica game. That and the map feels to bland. Theres no more long winding cave systems like from subnautica 1 that really gave it its exploration factor.
