cute and funny gun play
After all this time playing this game, I still don't know who this game is for. It caters towards casual players, but with the 2D mechanic stringify, it makes it hard for new players to play. Aiming is important in this game and it is very hard when characters become 2 dimensional. Additionally, with it being a shooter, you alienate a lot of the Gacha crowd because of how aim intensive this game is. A lot of people used to say this game had a marketing issue but I don't think that's the case. iDreamSky doesn't know what demographic they want to cater the game to. This is where the fundamental problems stem from, because the people who have no trouble with their mechanics will stay with the game and find a lot of success. Then, these players get matched with casuals who love the anime aesthetic and proceed to get wrecked. As a former top 500 player, I would only recommend this game if you are looking to play casually. If you avoid demolition and ranked, you'll be fine. However, You will still run into people who have been playing the game everyday since launch, who play like its the world championship. It's just an unfortunate aspect of the game being the way that it is. Since release, they've added so many casual game modes that its safe to say the competitive scene isn't much of a priority for iDreamSky. And honestly, the game isn't worth ranking up in. The higher you climb, the bigger the skill discrepancy and more coinflip the games feel (due to low player count). The meta is pretty dry too, run Ming, Reiichi, or Flavia or lose. Despite the potential for creativity being there, theres not a lot of leeway in the competitive scene. Maps can be heavily defender or attacker favored, as well. It's just not worth it.
