8.7/10 Pros - The mechanics themselves are well done, but the art style definitely gives it an edge against its competition. In addition to what feels like a quality classic dungeon crawler my favorite feature is probably the magic system. The only other rune based magic system I enjoyed came from OrbusVR, but this works a lot better in its initial release as spell recognition is a lot more consistent and reliable. Lastly while the magic system is versatile , the game makes sure to put you into situations where you have to find balance between your sword and mage play, so you're encouraged to play like a battle-mage where you can't just spam one or the other. Cons - The melee combat system could be more elaborate mechanically and visually. The game also could use more casual physical interactions to develop a deeper sense of immersion. Definitely give it a shot! I'll continue to update this post as I play more of the game.
the game just would start i could hear the sounds but it would never load into my headset playing on a valve index dissapointing i was excited for this game

I got this game for two reasons: 1) I used to play Heretic and Hexen so the art style really appealed to me 2) Gesture based magic in VR is the tits So far, this game delivers. It's not perfect! The directional sound is really wonky for me. It sounds like enemies are right next to me when they're actually across the room quite frequently, for one. The melee combat kind of floaty and there's very little to it. However, the magic is the star of the show. Every magic effect feels good. The magical sound effects are crunchy and powerful, and they look and feel good too. Can't wait to play more of this. Keep up the good work, dev!
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
This one is a tough one for me to review. If you're into old-school dungeon crawlers, then this may appeal to you. It just didn't vibe with me personally though. There's nothing wrong with it. In fact, you can tell there was a lot of love put into this game. Don't let the pixel art-style fool you, this is a challenging game. You use gesture-based spells you learn as you go along and also sneak in melee combat whenever you can as your mana is limited. The game just felt a bit too grindy for me. The dungeons are tough and it's easy to take damage. Sometimes you're forced to just retreat or wait until your mana / health charge up again. The melee is just too simple but still challenging because it's difficult to block incoming damage. You're just swinging away as fast as possible in the meantime. Your spells are powerful, but your mana depletes quickly. It's not just the number of enemies, but there's also a lot of environmental dangers. There is a teleportation spell, but the lack of mana makes it something you want to avoid using. However, I think many will enjoy this game a lot more than I did, especially if you want to see classic dungeon crawling action translated to VR with lots of love. pretty good and stuff
Straightforward & Fun! -Beautiful game in a charming retro style. -Freely explore a small but exciting open-world island. -Gameplay is fun, and with the extensive arena combat, there are plenty of opportunities to practice your battlemage skills! -Lots of comfort and gameplay options to customize in-game. There is also a Garage Collective discord channel for connecting with the devs :)
Was soll ich dazu sagen? Pixelgegner, in 3D Pixel Optik! Mega! Top! Total brillant!
Considering the competition I think this is fairly good. it's pretty seducing to see old school AD in VR, however I wish the pixel art can be improved and the terrain had more details ( btw those rabbits are huge! ). I like the spell system a lot, the combat is simple but efficient , maybe need some tweaking with the hitbox. I had a small bug where I got slightly offset from my character collision box, quite a common bug in VR,hopefully shouldn't be too hard to fix ( maybe completely avoid player to go thorough wall ). I'm curious to see how much more content will be added, it would be very exciting to have a real open world ( even more exciting to see randomly generated loot and dungeons ), but i'm not sure if it is the dev intention.
nice game the fighting mechanics are satisfying to use. Good job!!
