Still Joking

Haven’t got much experience with visual novels, but I am quite a fan of murder mysteries, and I just can’t resist beautiful game art. “Still Joking” has clearly put a lot of effort into its graphics, and it does take you on a murder investigation, so I decided to give it a go. So far, I’m quite impressed with not just the graphics but the storyline, too. The whole idea of a world of reflections living their own lives is super cool, and I will definitely be restarting a couple more times just to go for completely different choices for Iris, the character you play as: I want to see where it’ll take me. Don’t want to leave any spoilers here, but I can already tell that even picking a different love interest can make a huge difference, so we’ll see! Oh, and kudos to the cat! Mrragh.

This game gave me a lot of cozy evenings before I got to my first ending. And I am sure I will replay it again (for the brilliant achievements and plot twists). You definitely should play it for its original story, funny yet kinda psychologic dialogues and sarcastic heroine. I don't know how, but this game made me empathize with every character.

Still Joking это стейк с кровью, который вам подадут с язвительной ухмылкой. Забудьте всё, что вы знали. Здесь вас ждёт не очередная «пышка-недотрога», а Айрис - циничное, остроумное и до мозга костей уставшее от всего дерьма отражение убитой актрисы. Её прототип мертв, а её новая жизнь - это коктейль из сарказма, экзистенциального кризиса и попыток не сойти с ума в мире, который буквально рассыпается на глазах. ПОЧЕМУ ЭТА ИГРА ВАС ДОСТАНЕТ (В ХОРОШЕМ СМЫСЛЕ): Айрис - это ваш внутренний голос, которому надоело молчать. Она скажет всё, что вы думаете, но боитесь произнести. Её сарказм это не милая черта, а холодное оружие. Готовьтесь либо обожать её, либо ненавидеть. Третьего не дано. Персонажи, которые не обязаны вас любить. Они живут своей жизнью, имеют своё дерьмовое мнение и будут посылать вас, если вы этого заслуживаете. Это не гарем, где все падают к вашим ногам. Это жестокая реальность сложных отношений. Мир, который ненавидит вас лично. Зазеркалье - это не «Алиса в Стране чудес». Это место, где пустота пожирает всё, что вы любите, а единственный способ выжить - быть умнее и дерзче всех. Атмосфера давит так, что хочется выдохнуть, но не получается. Кот. Он озвучен. И он, чёрт возьми, единственный адекватный персонаж. Этого уже достаточно. ПОЧЕМУ ВЫ МОЖЕТЕ ЕЁ ВЫКЛЮЧИТЬ (И БУДЕТЕ НЕПРАВЫ): «Слишком много сарказма». Вы действительно это сказали? Серьёзно? Идите играйте в симулятор фермы. «Детектив не главное». А кто сказал, что должно быть? Это история о поиске себя в мире, где тебя не должно было существовать. Убийство лишь триггер. «Слишком сложные отношения». Да. Потому что настоящие отношения — это не выбор из трёх реплик для подката. Это работа. Не готовы - ваша потеря. МОЁ МНЕНИЕ, КОТОРОЕ НИКОГО НЕ ЕБЁТ, НО Я ЕГО ВСЁ РАВНО ВЫСКАЖУ: Эта игра как пощечина после долгой спячки. Она не пытается вам понравиться. Она ставит вас перед фактом: либо вы принимаете её правила, либо сливаетесь. Здесь нет чёрного и белого. Только 50 оттенков едкого сарказма и морального компромисса. Still Joking не даёт ответов. Она задаёт неудобные вопросы и бросает вам в лицо правду: иногда, чтобы найти себя, нужно сначала потерять всё. Вердикт: 10/10. Игра, которая заставляет чувствовать. Злиться, смеяться, сопереживать. После неё вы либо изменитесь, либо поймёте, что давно мертвы внутри. Я свой выбор сделал.

Great (and somewhat sad) story, 10/10

"Still Joking" is a visual novel with some interactive elements. A rare story filled with mysteries! You play as the reflection of a murdered woman. What will you do now that your prototype (the person you reflect) is dead?.. This is a key question for this story and it all depend on you. You can act or do nothing, you can explore or blindly follow someone else's advice/directions, you can try to figure out how your prototype died or try to figure out how to keep living. Your world is crumbling down constantly and needs repairing. Groups of people are working on it and try to stabilize it or manifest anew. Having fun, not having fun, solving problems, being the troublemaker are some aspects that determine how you [b]live[/b]. The base of this story revolves around this. What life will you lead?.. And, most importantly, why?.. ^^ You have the absolute freedom to decide and every choice matters. Shape your own story, form bonds and relationships, stay single or find a love interest, investigate, be idle.. It is [b]your[/b] story within a rich and colorful world that's both ideal and twisted! It's immersive. Interactive elements in investigations and elsewhere, combined with some QTEs, help in this regard. The music plays a big part in this as well; it has been done cleverly. Interesting dialogue with exciting options! How much do you want to know and do? Decide and go for it! You won't be punished for any option, so live your life the way you want to! While the game as a whole is really good, what sets it apart for me, even more than the story, is the exceptional artwork! It manages to convey an array of emotions that fit perfectly to the "1 picture equals 1000 words" expression. There is great attention to detail in every single scene and the art itself is superb. Even if the overall style isn't 100% to your liking, you can't deny its effect or how skillfully and profeciently it portrays everything. This is a story about life and living. And somehow this only happened after your prototype's death.. The joke is on you.. Right?.. ^^ You'll decide that too! And along with it, prepare to internally reflect. The game raises some interesting questions. The real fun comes from trying to figure out the answer.. In any way possible..
