This game is beyond buggy and unintuitive. There is no point in teamplay, XP is based off of kills and almost nothing else. Medic/Engineer get practically 0 XP compared to every other class. The grenade launcher is the best weapon in this game. Completely outclasses the rest of the game's arsenal. You have to level up each gun by killing bugs, which sounds fine, but results in people refusing to do their classes' role in the squad. Medics won't heal or revive. Engineers won't place ammo or build defenses. For example, if you mount a stationary MG, you are getting an insane amount of XP per bug kill, but if someone is reloading you as you are shooting, they only get 15 XP per reload. The gunner gets 5 XP MINIMUM per normal bug kill. This means that there is no point in someone reloading you to keep the gun reloaded, because they get practically nothing compared to the one shooting. That's an insane difference in XP. Not to mention the servers are really laggy. Sometimes, Your body rubber-bands back down and then up again each time you jump. Normal rubber-banding is also frequent. P.s. The ping in the leaderboard is lying. Full on lying. It will say you have 25 ping but it feels as though you are playing on a server in India if you're in the US. The climbing system is the worst climbing system out of any game I've ever played. I'd rather them just not have one at all. Because bug corpses pile up, you can be in the middle of an all out war against bugs and have to turn around to run, but there's a bug corpse in the way. You jump to get around it and end up climbing it. The climbing animation is so insanely long compared to the rest of the movement in the game, so you die. It's so jarring and it will get you killed repeatedly. It's better to just try not to climb at all. When I learned that this was made by Offworld I was actually bewildered. They used to be such a good company but have fallen off drastically and it shows. I got this game on sale. Do not buy this for 30 dollars. If it was like 7-15 dollars then that would make more sense. I'd still give it a negative review, but it would make so much more sense for the actual quality of the game. Also, the cosmetics are just color changes. Each trooper looks the same, and the only cosmetics that actually change anything is the ONE prestige cosmetic for each slot you get. That and the DLC cosmetics, but all of those look like garbage too. The only one seemingly worth it is the Sparta one because it changes the color of the helmet and not just the visor. Oh also, this could be the fault of the IP, but every gun looks like a toy gun made of plastic. Edit for March 2026 update: They added a mod for the grenade launcher to give it more reserve ammo for some unknown reason. Clearing bug corpses gives XP now, which is nice, but doesn't solve the XP related issues for support classes. They made ambushes even more difficult, which I'm fine with more difficulty, but ARC missions are already brutal as is, and the bugginess of the game really scales up the difficulty of these drastically. Haven't tried out the mech, so I can't say anything about that. All in all, the update added a mech. That's pretty much it. Sadly, all other changes seem pointless.
This game, honestly? it's dead in the water. which is a huge shame cos i just want to 'do my part'
The handful of times i've had a full, competent team on ARC have been the absolute best of what this game has to offer. the rest? most players know nothing of the game and haven't played a shooter in their lives, let alone a TEAM BASED EXTRACTION SHOOTER emphasis on TEAM. the servers are a buggy laggy mess, the game chugs even on decent hardware & is just overall a slog for progression outside of double XP weekends. Playerbase? DEAD. basically only console players and even then it's rare to get a full lobby. Updates? the development is SLOW. The updates lack direction or even actual scope, no bugfixes and optimization, nothing NEW to do, it's just the same 3 maps on rotate with the same 10 players, until they all log out for the night. Instead we got an update for a 2min trailer of the game...that we're PLAYING. why? who thought that was necessary content? unfathomable. EDIT: as of 6/5/26 they have added a new update which is just a PAYWALLED XP BOOST and some cosmetics, have not fixed any actual issues with desync, lag etc & made it clear they don't care about making the game actually playable or listening to feedback in ANY CAPACITY. they just want your money and don't respect the players of the game, they only respect money. which is a twist that makes me irrationally upset. please don't buy this. you're not supporting the game at all. Honestly really disappointed how hard the devs fumbled this IP. in its earlier forms it was excellent, everything the rabid fans wanted, now its some random helldivers-esque slop that doesn't try to do any one particular thing well. its just....meh. i do recommend picking it up to revive the community so the devs actually DO SOMETHING WE WANT. otherwise? it's sadly another title slowly drowned in the shallow muddy puddle of development creep. i stepped off the dropship & realized nobody else is coming to play. nobody is going to come help fight the arachnid menace. it's just me. alone. the bugs aren't even spawning in. it's just an expansive empty map. the flags still wave silently in the wind, waiting for players that'll never come. Безбожно лагает даже при вступительном ролике. Но испытывая не лучшие проблемы с онлайном, берут и вводят ограничения для игроков из РФ. Вопрос конечно риторический, но... Против игроков из США и Израиля ограничения почему не ввели?
The game is circling the drain compared to the release days. The community turned sour, no one wanted to get into the dropship so they could waste everyone's time for score padding, they got rid of cool systems like how the bombarding bugs worked. It's also amazing how much worse the game runs compared to launch. It only got worse with patches, not better. It has quite literally been updated into the ground. What drives the nail into the coffin for me is them using AI generated content. You could have had a trash heap that I would have returned to, but out of principle I wont. You really try defend your use of it, but you could have just hired an animator. It's lazy and it's immoral regardless of having licensed content. If that's the path you want to walk then no one should buy this game or others you produce. If you wont respect the work of artists who makes games possible, why should we respect your work? Games are art, the sum of many arts. Not that you devs would know, that much is clear. I had high hopes for this game, but you dashed them on every level. This title can walk down washout lane. It's a shadow of the glory it had during launch days. The devs are clearly just twisting in the wind.
Dead cashgrab
They had 16k initial online momentum and somehow decided that the smart move was not, you know, working on the actual game. More guns? QoL? Balance? Performance? Nah. Better update the engine mid-season to "get a better picture". And you know exactly where this is going. Even more lag. People who could barely play on release were suddenly not even able to load in. Low FPS killed players faster than top-tier bugs. Clipping bugs, terrible terrain, software bugs, server issues - we tried our best, but the devs doubled down and called it "rebalance". Translation: imitate progress and wipe everyone's ranks. Was the wipe necessary because they added twice as much content, new guns, new mods, new items? Ha ha, joke's on you. They took content designed in EA for 3 classes and 5 (?) guns, split it into 6 classes, and somehow added no guns and no items. Then they increased EXP requirements, because apparently some genius looked at Starship Troopers and thought: "Yes, what this needs is Excel MMO progression." We are not DOING OUR PART because we want 0.0001% progress toward that sweet rocket launcher. We were doing our part because the game was stupid fun. That was the entire point. At this point they can start selling DLCs with new weapons. Hell, why not? Could not be worse. We could have had another Lethal Company or Magicka. Instead we got a 15 FPS "serious" tryhard demo with worse progression and less fun. P.S. Joke's on me, they are really selling DLC below, on a $15 game. Ahahaha. Rofl. Just ignore this dead game and play real DEMOCRACY.
This game is TERRIBLY made. The game runs like milk left in the sun for days, spoiled rotten and curdled. How they went from one of the most fun betas out there years ago to this, is outstanding levels of shooting your foot. They somehow made one of their major features, bug corpses, cause the game to run so poorly it lags a server so bad people cant even jump and bugs teleport. Ive prayed that over the years this game would get better, but its only gotten worse. The fact this game still has players is a miracle, and I think thats only because its on console. I can easily see why this game has practically no PC players anymore. If you want a horde bug killer, I beg you literally go play Helldivers because god this game used to be so good but got so ruined so fast.
It's a fun game, especially in multiplayer. It also perfectly represents the original Starship Troopers movie in game format. But any game that regularly makes me sit and wait for 10+ minutes to find a match is a game I will never recommend. They could've let us have self-hosted dedicated servers with bots, but instead they chose to waste my valuable time by forcing me to wait forever for a server more than half a world away to populate with the tiny player-base this game has left. And that's to match with ANY game type, ANY difficulty - if you're after a specific map or mission type, at a specific difficulty, you can just forget it. You'll fall asleep in your chair before you find a match. It's not a completely dead game, but it might as well be for the amount of time you'll spend just sitting, waiting for a match. There is a set of solo missions. They're meh.
AI voice acting and face's...I HATE it...Why not just have still images that change like comic book style with a VA that sounds like johnny? VA's are not pricey and you can record the lines in just 1 day or hell get a dev to be a VA and that free VA just get a human VA! AI bubble must pop.
i absolutely despise the devs of this game. from the same idiots that brought you the broken steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥ known as squad. they once again take a game that was loved at launch and decimate the player base by adding the worst updates in live service history. want new guns? too bad lets have a ui update no one was asking for and breaks the game for months. want some cosmetics to unlock? ♥♥♥♥ you. heres a $10 DLC for purple stripes on your gun. want new maps or bugs? nah well rework the same map for the 9th time and just change the location of a few spawns. i will giggly and clap my feet like a baby the day this studio goes under.
Had potential at first, but now it's leaned into low effort content and AI slop.
