Moonpod's Starscape mixes old school arcade game play values with characterization and an involving plot to deepen the whole experience. With most of its crew missing and its weapons systems ruined, the space research station Aegis is all but lost.

Its a great old game and I usually don't play games like this. I like the grind on it for metals and equipment. I found this game looking for something like Armada on the Dreamcast and i'm happy I found this!
I Initially picked this up when it first came out. It's still fun once you get past the secondary characters and get to the core of the game. It's sad that the resolution is still stuck at 800x600, small even for the time it was made. Still it's fun to play.
A great top-down space shooter with a plot. Spiritually it would be a prequel to Space Pirates and Zombies. Graphics are exactly what they should be, art in the cutscenes is a little wonky. Wish it had even more plot and more choices. Game is a bit too big for how interesting it is. Interface is a tiny bit clumsy. A few things like some items aren't even capitalized. Weapons aren't sorted 1-4, it might go 3-1-2-4. Could have used a little more polish before release but nothing glitchy. Wish they'd made a sequel.

★★☆☆☆ Okay!
Action
Starscape is, in essence, an updated version of Swarm: you control a space vessel in top-down 2D space, and basically perform the same mission - blow up enemies, collect resources, fight the occasional boss. The alien ships become more and more deadly from tiny swarming craft that look a bit like the flagships from Galaxian to the “zone bosses” the first of which spews molten asteroids and dwarfs the precious Aegis. One aspect of the game I found to be a bit tedious is the mining of resources. Frankly, I would rather be fighting off the alien horde than chipping away in the salt mines. one of the best little known titles I’ve run across
First played this 19 years ago; decided to buy this for nostalgic sake. It's still fun; but gameplay is a bit repetitive and can not exactly a relaxing grind. Too bad the price is still somewhat pricey for a game that can be finish in like few hours.
It's a glorified version of that Asteroid game, where you're a spaceship shooting at passing rocks. As far as the storyline, it's so-so, but it makes up for in top-view space battles. You can research and build new ship components, but the user-interface takes some getting used to. All-in-all, I'm glad I got to re-live this one.
A good game from what feels like long ago. It's rough around the edges compared to more modern games; it doesn't have 1080p resolution and the mouse navigation is a bit clumsy. But it's a quality game from before the era of early access, where you got a shareware peek at the full game and paid for the rest of it if you liked it. It also seems ahead of its time with its basic mining and crafting, but also it doesn't go too far with it, which a lot of newer games do. However, may I recommend you save often. There doesn't appear to be an autosave and you might not realize it, but if your escape pod gets destroyed, it's a complete game over!
