Didn't realise I hadn't reviewed. I have another couple of hundred hours on mobile. Could not recommend this game enough! Absolutely fantastic and still getting updates 8 years later. It's probably the best value gaming purchase I've ever made.
Deep, expansive, and genuinely engaging. Star Traders: Frontiers makes a great first impression – and that impression only grows over time. After a few hours of play, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of 1% of what this game has to offer. That's both fascinating and a little overwhelming – in the best possible way. The biggest highlight is the thoughtfully designed character training and progression system, woven together with story-driven adventures. The RPG layer here is genuinely solid – the variety of professions and career paths is impressive, and every decision regarding your crew and captain carries real consequences. A pleasant surprise is also the learning curve – the game doesn't throw a tutorial manual in your face, but you can comfortably learn on the fly, make mistakes, and rely on save states. It's an approach I really appreciate. If I had one criticism, it would be the occasionally lengthy dialogues and demanding English – for players without fluent language skills, it can be a slight barrier. But that's more of a side effect of a richly built world than an actual flaw. Recommended for anyone looking for a game with real depth, who isn't afraid to invest time in learning its mechanics.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The save system is terrible, and too much of what happens in the game (dice rolls) is obfuscated leaving you always trying to figure out what exactly went wrong and how to do better, while having to navigate the terrible save system to recover your game. There's no excuse for a save system this terrible and unfortunately, while I believe there's a great game waiting to be played, I won't be playing it.
I played this game a lot over the years, but I can't honestly suggest it because of how the combat systems and the roll systems work, even if you stack all of your tools to give you a boost, the game can instantly screw you over and cripple you. The more you play the more you'll notice this as you'll start stacking passive abilities on top of eachother rather than strategizing, you will start avoiding direct combat as it will screw you over every time no matter how hard you try, and that if you play the story it makes this even more aggravating because you're on a timer to grind for reputation to not get locked out from more story missions. I don't know whats with Trese but it's like they never learned anything from their early days with their mobile games.
The shoehorned card game mechanic ruins an otherwise very interesting game. A test out of ~50 attmpts: - approx 20-25% of the time, when no talent-based card overrides are used, the outcome favors positive outcomes; 50% for minor negative, remainder very negative - approx. 45% of the time - nearly half - when selecting a talent-based card override (e.g. swap card, remove card, etc.), the outcome more frequently gravitates toward a negative -> very negative outcomes Summary: it appears best to not use replacement cards at all, even to remove the more difficult encounters (xeno combat)
Definitely not too difficult; a lot of those reviews must have been written without trying the easier difficulty levels (maybe they didn´t exist before?). Just follow the storyline missions and you´ll get plenty of money. I´ve won several battles - both ship and crew - without even upgrading my ship. My strat was to be very evasive so that I could run away easily if it didn´t work out. I ran away a lot. My critique is instead this: I wanted to be a smuggler, but the entry to the black market is a chance gamble (that´s fine) on which success does not really lead to what you need. I couldn´t buy or sell what was specific to my smuggler mission (with my one contact) and there was WAAAAAAY easier to make money in every other way possible (which I had not designed my crew for: Story missions, spying, scavanging, exploring... even robbing pirates). Why would I try to enter a high risk black market with no reward? When there is an abundance of trade and easy to do missions and then buy trade permits. Functionality has to go hand in hand with a role, for there to be a point to play the role. Also, be aware: The game has a lot of depth and story. Very cool. But you don´t matter. You are basically Malcom Reynolds without ever being able to touch the 10 alliances... you just earn money from them.
Seems like a decent space sandbox game. Unfortunately, there is very little tutorialization, so I felt like I needed to read a guide before even getting started. Don't really want to invest all that time into a game that just didn't grab my interest from the start.
Holy crap - what an awful game. 20 random-ass events in first 30 seconds of play. What??? Space worms! Void plasma! Goobybobs! Who ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cares?! Like so many other reviewers have said, choice doesn't matter AT ALL; I have NO IDEA who this could POSSIBLY be fun for. It's just objectively terrible. I've never refunded a game so fast - and I was a little stunned on the help page to see I also refunded this game 8 years ago, also with less than 0.1 hours played. So it's STAYED terrible for nearly a decade. Steam needs to create a greater barrier to entry for listing games, and a fee for hosting games. There's so much aging ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bloat on this platform I've actually actively started looking for point-of-sale alternatives. This game is a scam, where they occassionally pay just enough sponsoring cash and sale the price just enough to reel in the latest crop of suckers. What a joke,. Real lesson to me to ALWAYS bother leaving a review. Could have saved myself 10 minutes.
There's a good game here, but it's buried under an endless mound of data. For each game you need to keep track of dozens of crew including jobs (for your captain and officers) and talents for each job. Each crew member also wears gear so you have to decide what weapons and armor you want each to use. And finally you have ships with dozens of modules of build slots that can each be filled lots of different modules and each module come in muliple different modules and levels. And that's the challenge for me. In order to really play this game well you need spreadsheets and notes and probably many hours of theory crafting or reading guides etc. I like the depth and the amount of data points, but there has to be a way to make it easier for the player to manage. I found the constant management of all the individual things that need to be managed along with a bit too much RNG in the card games became tedious for me. Your mileage may vary. I am reluctantly giving it a thumbs down, not because there's not a good game here - there is - but rather because it just wasn't fun enough for me to keep playing it.
Wanted to play this game watched videos to get to know it because there is no Tutorial. spent a couple hours get my first quest to get the arbiter. went to every planet talked to Every person could never figure out how to get Estella on my ship. what a waste of my life avoid this game its a waste of your time.
