I'd like to preface this by saying my no-recommendation is not because of the gameplay mechanics or loop. It's basically exactly what you'd expect, i.e., Stacklands with Pokemon flavour. The gameplay feels polished, both the base building and mon catching are fun, and the art is fantastic. My issue with this game is the complete lack of visual QOL and accessibility options, as well as the awful UX, which borders on unacceptable for a game released in 2026. Looking at the discussion board and some YT reviews, it seems like this is a fairly common complaint and I hope they put in the time and effort into fixing it. I'm not going to go over the issues in that much detail, just give a brief overview for anyone who is on the fence about this game and worried it may impact them. They include, but are not limited to: - Nights are way, way too dark. I just started to just tab out during the night because it was straining my eyes to try and read the text during this period. There is no option to change this and it makes the below issues much worse. - The font is in all caps and is comic-style. I'm extremely confused about why they went with both a thin font and all caps given there's sizable research showing even people with good eyesight can have difficulty reading both of these traits. It's especially terrible because some of the text has extremely low contrast with its respective background. There is no option to change this. - Everything is too small. I mean literally everything. There's an option to increase the interface scale but it makes such a little difference that it feels even more baffling they included it at all. One of these issues would be overlookable on its own, but they compound and permeate through every single aspect of the game to the point where it's just an incredibly arduous experience to read anything. I personally have good eyesight, I don't have dyslexia, etc. I'm not sure if I've ever encountered a game where I truly felt like even I, a completely able-bodied person, was suffering from the lack of QOL... until now. So I can't imagine how someone who does have those problems would feel. I'd like to reiterate that the actual game is good and I can easily see myself completing it if these options are added. But right now I simply can't recommend it for anyone who uses a tinted monitor, a large monitor, has poor eyesight, has trouble reading... the list goes on. And I felt like I needed to write this review in order to bring attention to these problems. I will happily change my review to a recommendation if they are fixed or if further options are added.

With 229 hours in the playtest, 239 hours in the demo, and then dozens more hours in the closed playtest, I think it's fair to say I have become addicted to this game. I could sit here and tell you what qualities of this game are amazing, but everyone else already will be saying as such, because it really is that good. Instead, let me tell you about my favorite part of this game. Early in the game, there's an adorable grape creature you can find named Grapely. It's rather unassuming, and it evolves at a low level. By the time it reaches endgame, the final evolution Grapetal is actually quite powerful, with effective skills that make it versatile for any party. It's a solid choice as a combatant. I'm talking a very high A tier, maybe low S tier. But I don't love it for Grapetal. I love the adorable purple grape with a leaf for hair and flower buds for hands. I love its giant eyes and its cute smile. I love that it's become *my* grape. In a way, the game has become mine because of my love for it. I've transcended liking the game into probably an unhealthy obsession with how cute it is. And the devs know my love for it because I honestly probably started annoying them with how much I was pronouncing my love for the power of grapes. But it's not just Grapely. This game is charmingly adorable all over. The artwork is amazing; every creature has this level of detail that makes them cute and cool and flashy and loveable and your next favorite. Grapely is my favorite, sure, but there are other amazing creatures here, too. And the sounds they make -- like the goat Morphinny shouting a curt "Meh!" -- are just as loveable. The gameplay is certainly addictive, but the creatures and world you find yourself in are enough to want to stick around longer than it reasonably takes to play through the story. And then it's all scored to a beautiful soundtrack that feels calm and adventurous at the same time. Not only is this game addictive, it's the kind of addictive that doesn't leave you feeling like you made a mistake by letting yourself get absorbed by it. It's delightful all around, and pleasantly engaging. I don't expect everyone to fall in love with Grapely the way I have, but I would be surprised if you didn't at least find yourself loving the bulbous pigeon Pomball, or the astonishly chubby frog-cow hybrid Frogow. Maybe the flaming hedgehog Emberoll is more your preference? Or the piñata alpaca Pinpaca? Really, any of the other hundred creatures that fill the game could be your surprise favorite. Give this game a try and find what makes this cozy creature-collecting stackathon so great that I could have dedicated 500+ hours over each of its pre-release versions in the name of one adorable stacking grape.
Finally a game where I got every creature after failing at every Pokédex, yay! I have mixed feelings with this game though, partially my fault. It is cute and definitely not a bad game or anything. It doesn’t have a lot of guides, guidance or anything yet, so I had to look around a few things while going for the 100% and it dragged the game out. I am thankful there were discussions helping me out. I can imagine it might grow and become way better! But going for the 100% kind of really sucked the fun out of me, because those Adventure Points have been really annoying all game. I admit I never played a stacking game before like this or Stackland, so maybe it is a normal mechanic. But for me those AP are just tedious and don’t do much for the game itself. I don’t mind farming, but I am too dreamy to take everything with me on every run and sometimes I had to go back and wasted AP for setting out or got lost out there and wasted many points. I just want to explore and not wait a few minutes in my base drowning in cards before setting out again, because I got lost in something or didn’t pause the game. I am a casual gamer, I know there are probably 100 ways to rig the game and get infinite money or something instantly, but that’s just not the way I play games~ And maybe that’s just me, but one of the suggested Tags is “Relaxing”. The game really is anything mentioned, but I did not relax in it, lol. There is not a time limit or anything, but Day-Night changing fast, cards jumping in my messy base, AP running down while exploring – it all really combined into me not being relaxed at all. Maybe I just stress myself out too much with things happening, but sometimes I just felt like I was working rather than enjoying it. xD I am someone who often forgets to pause the game, admittedly that this is also my fault of course. I just let it run free! Besides those points, it is a cute game, especially if you like the art and the Stackmon are not clones, but all feel like they fit the world perfectly. And their descriptions are also adorable! I picked Water as a starting Stackmon and really enjoyed traveling (I usually take plant in Pokémon, but this one stole my heart with its bubbles!). So, I would recommend it. It is simple in its story, an indie game surely with passion and there is a very clear goal like I am used to from Pokémon. I had only one bug encountered which was fine (that’s why I like saving manually more than automated systems. My game just saved right when the bug happened, rip). I had my fun with it. I do hope it gets some sort of customization in the future, because my character card (both of them) really didn’t vibe with me. I found my “character” a tiny bit unsettling actually and it was just an empty card to move around in the end. I wouldn’t like meeting me in the game. Well, this sounded all more negative than I wanted it to be. I really hope Stackmon grows and can become even better with more depth and quality-of-life changes, because it definitely has potentional!
If you are expecting this to be another pokemon variant, do not get this game. That's where most negative reviews come from This is a stacking game first with a light pokemon variant, not the other way around. If you like stacking games, this is a very good one in my opinion. I usually find those types boring but the fighting and Mon collection adds a very welcome layer over it that pushed the game in the positive for me. It's not amazing, some QoL would definitely be welcome especially given how many different stuff you can craft past a certain point, but overall a strong positive.
