About
Species: Unknown is a first-person survival horror game, playable in co-op with up to 4 players (private or public servers) or solo. You play as a mercenary sent aboard an abandoned spaceship. Your job? Execute high-risk contracts, make it out alive, and claim your reward. But keep in mind that you’re not alone. Something is hunting you…
Form a squad of up to 4 players to take on different contracts with escalating difficulty. Each mission plays differently depending on your objective, your teammates, the map and which of the 5 intelligent threats is stalking you. No one survives alone, but you can try.

Proximity Chat & Radio are available: distance matters, walls matter. Proximity Chat is bringing more tension, sometimes chaos, and unforgettable moments to your co-op sessions.

Every contract drops you into a different nightmare. Whether you're tasked with extracting a black box, capturing or eliminating an unknown threat, or even destroying the ship to prevent the creature from escaping… Each mission demands a specific strategy and none of them are easy.
The specimen is chosen procedurally from a growing roster of terrifying monsters. Each one comes with distinct behaviors, hunting patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. You’ll need to investigate your surroundings to gather vital clues and identify the threat in order to proceed smoothly (or not). Do your job and get rewarded, or die without anyone knowing.

Strategize as a group, make smart use of your tools that can turn the tide, if only for a moment:
Motion Tracker : Detect nearby movement and prepare for what's coming
Shield : Block deadly attacks and buy time for your team
Health Syringe : Heal yourself or allies in the heat of battle
Mini-Map : Navigate pitch-black corridors with real-time positional data
Guns won’t always save you. Some threats are too resistant or simply untouchable. But the right weapon, found at the right time, can help you push through or even take the creature down.

The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Completing contracts earns you credits you can use to:
Upgrade your gear
Buy new tools
Customize your appearance
Gather lore and build your own creature museum

I’ve only been playing this game for a couple days and I am so in love with this game! I enjoy every minute of every session. I’m not normally into horror games, but, for some reason, this one speaks to me. I love sci-fi, so that my be why; it reminds me a little of “Alien: Isolation”, but more involved. The variety of mission types, specimens, and mission modifiers keep the game interesting. Some of the things I might change, is that if you are playing in a group, everyone should get data/samples/specimens in their logs/ship. But it’s probably the way it is now due to lore/ game logic reasons. I also would like the ability to make a more Asian look to my avatar; I tried but they look more Hispanic than anything. I’d also like to see more varieties in weapons and secondary equipment. Regardless, I can’t wait to see what kind of maps and creatures that are in store for us as this game is developed. Maybe a plant creature with vines? A predatory mammal creature of some kind? Maybe a shark or fish like creature that floods the map when it’s the specimen? A rock monster that throws boulders? A creature that makes its surrounding area very cold/hot and does a.o.e/d.o.t. damage when you get too close? Whatever it is, I can’t wait to see what the devs cook up for this fantastic sci-fi space horror.

Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Really beautiful and well thought out game. You can tell that the devs care about the game and its player base (both current and future). Playing this with a mate is such a great experience. Teamwork, forward-planning, strategy and all-round skill are important in real life and are rewarded en masse in Species: Unknown. For the stage in early access that the game is in, the state of the game is impressive and should be applauded. Can't wait for the future updates to come and the full release.
I bought this game while it was still in early access phase. I have enjoyed playing it with my kids. At first it has a good scary component to it. I think part of what makes a game put you on edge is not knowing where to go. As I learned the layout and the creatures, the scary/horror factor diminished. However, the creatures will still occasionally give me a good jump scare. This game keeps my mind busy with creating strategies, and those change from game to game as the creature or contract type change. This adds a lot of variety to the game, making it quite fun to play. I would definitely classify it as survival thriller once you've played it for a while. There is always a dial up of tension toward the end of the mission whether you are hiking your way back to the shuttle with the valuable black box or running down a corridor shoving shotgun shells into your weapon so you can spin around and blast the monster chasing you. This game is a total blast especially for multiplayer. It reminds me of Doom 3 and Resident Evil, except I can play with friends and family, too!
I've played this game a handful of times but despite that i understand how great this game is along how well executed it is. The gameplay loop is extremely effective even when there is only one map, the way there are obstacles in every mission to stop the player from immediately having access to the whole map is such a good way to get the player moving and having an effort to explore to get further in. The mystery of discerning the monster from using context clues of victims is also super cool. There is so much thought poured into this game. The graphics help amplify this game and it would totally need them for its atmosphere, im excited for the updates this game will get and big props to the team behind the game for creating such a memorable experience.
Excelent coop game that recreates the Alien movies experience with different types of aliens and mission. Well executed even for early access, lots of fun!
boring game. tried getting into it. but meh...
This is a diamond in the rough for indie co-op horror. Takes the Phasmaphobia genre, polishes it, drops it in a fresh atmosphere, and updates the gameplay loop to be more satisfying (if you're tired of dying on extract, take a Kill Contract and teabag the mf's body). Graphics are beautiful and immersive. Difficulty feels appropriately scaled and high-lvl/multi-modifier missions are uniquely treacherous (in a good way). Capture Contracts are peak horror, dancing with death until you time doors perfectly but trying not to kill your very fast and very angry target. 10/10 Logged 20 hours with only 2 players and were able to finish our Species wing and highest tier contracts. The only thing this game needs is more content. Wanadev, my +1 and I are on this hellride with you for the long haul and we are loving it.
Un très bon jeu entre pote et super beau ! Juste les missions sont longues mais bon ca fait parti de l'experience je suppose
