About
Species: Unknown is a first-person survival horror game, playable in co-op with up to 4 players (private or public servers) or solo. You play as a mercenary sent aboard an abandoned spaceship. Your job? Execute high-risk contracts, make it out alive, and claim your reward. But keep in mind that you’re not alone. Something is hunting you…
Form a squad of up to 4 players to take on different contracts with escalating difficulty. Each mission plays differently depending on your objective, your teammates, the map and which of the 5 intelligent threats is stalking you. No one survives alone, but you can try.

Proximity Chat & Radio are available: distance matters, walls matter. Proximity Chat is bringing more tension, sometimes chaos, and unforgettable moments to your co-op sessions.

Every contract drops you into a different nightmare. Whether you're tasked with extracting a black box, capturing or eliminating an unknown threat, or even destroying the ship to prevent the creature from escaping… Each mission demands a specific strategy and none of them are easy.
The specimen is chosen procedurally from a growing roster of terrifying monsters. Each one comes with distinct behaviors, hunting patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. You’ll need to investigate your surroundings to gather vital clues and identify the threat in order to proceed smoothly (or not). Do your job and get rewarded, or die without anyone knowing.

Strategize as a group, make smart use of your tools that can turn the tide, if only for a moment:
Motion Tracker : Detect nearby movement and prepare for what's coming
Shield : Block deadly attacks and buy time for your team
Health Syringe : Heal yourself or allies in the heat of battle
Mini-Map : Navigate pitch-black corridors with real-time positional data
Guns won’t always save you. Some threats are too resistant or simply untouchable. But the right weapon, found at the right time, can help you push through or even take the creature down.

The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Completing contracts earns you credits you can use to:
Upgrade your gear
Buy new tools
Customize your appearance
Gather lore and build your own creature museum

Reviews
If you showed me a video of this game and told me it was in 1.0, I would believe you without hesitation. Overall "Species: Unknown" is in a fantastic and polished state, with more content on the way. Despite there being only 1 map, the gameplay loop doesn't get old as each monster, objective, and difficulty adds layers of depth, forcing you to approach each mission differently. Playing with friends is a fantastic mix of laughter, screams, and locking in when needed. I am super impressed with this game in its current state, and it is 110% worth the price tag, especially since there is more content coming.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

We need more maps on different planets, more monsters, more weapon choices and upgrades. It would be nice if we could keep our maps on us and have another perk equipped. Also, having the ability to jump and also hide in lockers or in certain furnitures to escape monsters. If possible, to have the opportunity to have more players on certain maps. We have a big group of friends and only 4 players is capped :( So far, very fun and recommend !

Definitely worth the $10. I have 36.4 hours in Species: Unknown, and I’ve completed everything, maxed out all the upgrades, and unlocked everything there currently is to unlock. At this point, there really isn’t much left for me to do but I had a great time getting there. I played solo for the majority of the game, and it was still extremely fun and completely manageable. The different specimens kept the game interesting, and learning how to deal with and capture each one was probably my favorite part. I can’t wait for the developers to add new bosses, maps, equipment, upgrades, and more things to unlock. The game already has a really solid foundation and a ton of potential. For only $10, I absolutely recommend it.
top game
great game for the $10 and still in development. people complaing about the same things. "theres no way to hide from the specimens" or "it always knows where im at".......it not a game about hiding. its a game about doing task and figuring out a way to not get killed. the specimens are supposed to be op. they killed every last member on the ship why would you fair any better...learn and be creative about how to stop them from killing you. the game literally tells you how to do it everytime you identify the specimen. these negative reviews are lame af. i say spend the $10 try it for yourself because i sure enjoyed it and still am. cant wait for future updates.
Awesome game for EA release
This game is really fun with friends! I'm excited to see what new maps come out and what other species are introduced into the game! People have to remember that this game is still early access, and we've let games be out longer in early access and have had barely any real new updates (ahem, 7 Days to Die), so I'm willing to give this more time to let it flourish and become more whole of a game. But so far, I'm really enjoying it. To the negative reviews, perhaps get more friends to play with? One criticism, I do agree that the AI can be a bit wonky at times, for example, the Ghost has a bad habit of getting "stuck" against walls sometimes after being fought and then fleeing - a friend of mine says the Ghost isn't the only that has this problem. Also, even on lower levels, the AI can be super aggressive as if it's on level 4, which is insane. It needs some adjusting. But, I'm willing to give the devs grace to work that out. Final note: 010 is the cutest monster.
