This game is a lot of things, a story of loss and redemption, a story of love and heartbreak, of regret and absolution. I don't write a lot of reviews as i don't think i can state much different from what anyone else can, or say it but better yet this game does (i feel) require earnest and honest appreciation for its story and gameplay. I laughed, i cried, and i felt genuine concern and hope for its characters. The often willfully forgotten horrors of slavery across America are put in an earnest light of stories that may very well be made up all feel; while artistically embellished; plausible if not certain yet callously forgotten. Stories of abuse and neglect by both a society and a parent made a forefront truth early on within the game to the point where despite the very early indication who the true antagonist of the story is leave you with enough questions and plausible deniability to get you to their section of the story conflicted to begin with and outright understanding of their motives despite the fact that you should empirically disagree with their actions and desires. The only thing i have poorly to say about the game is the first enemy in the game and the most common enemy for the remainder has your standard close the gap charge attack but i could not for the life of me get the dodge timing right and it punished me constantly. 10/10 would cry again.

Good story, characters, environments and action.

Simply a good game. Music and sound design are fantastic, the story is good, and it’s visually beautiful. The mechanics and gameplay are solid, and the game runs smoothly. If you have a hankering for a good ol' Deep South tale, definitely recommended
This was an excellent game with amazing voice acting and a really well designed world. I've struggled to come up with games to compare it to - the fighting reminds me of the Witcher 3, the gameplay reminds me a bit of Dungeons of Hinterberg and the story is the same quality as COE33 but very different in subject matter. It was very forgiving on the standard mode. I really loved all the characters, especially the main character and her little companion. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a game with a good story that they can complete without the distraction of meaningless side quests.
very visually appealing and the story is adorable!
Fenomenal.
A beautiful adventure game inspired by folklore of the southern states (US). The gameplay is divided into two distinct sections. One is exploration and traversal and the other is combat. Combat only happens in clearly marked arenas and can feel a bit repetitive. The game only features a limited set of enemy types and the arenas lack any unique mechanics and are almost all just a oddly shaped circles. Likewise the skillet available to fight these enemies is also very manageable. Bosses are a change of pace as they usually have a basic mechanic attached to them and the arenas introduce some hazards. Overall the combat is serviceable and manages to break up the exploration and as such it gets the job done. The exploration is bit more diverse switching between more open areas and connecting corridors that are linear. The changing environments add to the flair. The areas are just big and complex enough to hide collectibles as well as upgrade resources but not overtly so. The puzzles are of the simple kind and will not impede progress. One of the highlights is certainly the claymation or stop-motion inspired aesthetics and the presentation. The game is beautiful and pleasing to look at. Luckily the stop-motion effect can be turned off for smoother gameplay. The songs are nice too however a bit on the nose thematically. Another plus is the rather fresh setting of the southern states and their folklore. The story is solid and the entire game is well acted and voiced. That said Hazel is bit more on the talkative side. The game is not very long, with around 10 hours it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Overall I enjoyed my time with the game.
I loved this game from start to finish. The story is so engaging and heartfelt, it looks at so much pain and trauma with such unrelenting compassion. I love the use of Southern folklore. The characters are dynamic and compelling. The controls handle well and are easy to pick up. The music and sound design are fantastic. The stop-motion art style is so cool. This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen; the characters, the environments. the lighting. I had so much fun playing this.
