One of the very few HoMM-likes that have aspects more interesting than HoMM3. I enjoy some of the tweaks to previous design like stack caps, welder (hero) caps, and how the "builds" you can make are quite distinctive. I find the essence-based magic system quite interesting, it makes your unit choice interact with your magic choice. For anyone who is interested in the game mechanics, I suggest trying the higher difficulties as while they have many annoying aspects they do make you engage with all of the mechanics, which made me appreciate this game a lot more

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I have never ever played a game of this nature before. That being said, I have no idea what I am doing haha. I am just kind of stumbling and collecting anything sparkly and killing any baddy that stands in my way. The town defense and/or town building is interesting, again stumbling through this part too as I don't really understand how it all works yet. The art is what really grabbed my attention as it is whimsical and I love the tilt-shift style graphics. The maps are small, but that is okay as it keeps my ADHD in check so I can focus on reading everything. Each map does have a nice solid purpose to them and it keeps the storytelling focused and easy to follow. There is still a lot I do not understand yet, but that is honestly the best part! I refuse to watch videos or read guide books, as this game takes me out of my comfort zone from my normal genre I stick to and whew, it is so much fun to do that! I recommend it to anyone willing to dive into a game blindly and just play and learn as you go. It's truly a wonderful experience. k, bye!
I think its too early for me to simply call it a good game. Just played 3 hours or so. Maybe im a bit biased bc i like this type of game in general. Obviously reminds me a lot of Heroes and other similar titles. Theres some things that i wouldnt mind seeing changed/improved. But so far i had a pretty good time. EDIT: 20h in now. Still having a good time. I can confidenly say 2 main things so far. Its not a bad game by any means. Its sadly not an overall great game either. The general principle is fine. Heroes and countless other games in a new wrapping. I like the 2D/pixelart looks of units mixed with the 2.5D or w/e map/view. The sound was fine so far. Have to listen closer before i want to say more about it. The gameplay is ok. Mostly what you would expect, if you played other similar titles. Explore with 1 or more heroes ("wielders") each with their own things going on. Find plenty of loot while you fight your way through the campaigns, skirmishes, community content etc. Visit points of interest to stack buffs on your chars for the rest of the game, a turn, or the upcoming battles etc. Find new settlements and build/upgrade things to gather valuable resources, hire more troops, etc. Or simply take back/over an existing one. Lets call it "liberate" that always sounds good. What i didnt like too much or at least need time to get used to: SOME of the ui isnt as good as it couldve been. And thats not just my personal opinion. There could be more info in some places. Instead i have to remember something, loot at something else, then try to remember the difference. Imagine games wouldnt have an item comparsion sort of a thing. SoC does in general, but not in every obvious/useful place. Some more tooltips wouldve been nice in a few places. And it be nice if they wouldnt sometimes obstruct other things. cursor on top of a tooltip i cant properly read anymore, 2 or iirc even 3 layers of text on top of each others. Sometimes a useless menue not closing in the back while you are in a sub menue, which adds to visual confusion and simply looks bad. Parts of the visuals dont fit in imo. Its fantasy, things kill each others etc. I wish that the patch the wielders are going to take would look more fitting to that kind of setting. Instead they could come from any generic game regardless of the genre, setting or anything. Mobile games, fortnite, anything with colorful 3d comic graphics really. Wish there was something that blends in a little more nicely. Others may prefer something that sticks out in those ways on top of simply the color etc., i dont. Same goes for the line showing how far your char will be able to walk this turn by default. Also need to think about what to make of certain things the game does or doesnt do. Im almost sure that the game didnt exactly explain to me how the heroes work across a campaign with several maps. I met a friend, that person joined me, so i naturally wanted to make the best out of the 2 by coordinatingg and sharing some gear. My buddy left shorty after, and i have no idea whats still to come in this map, let alone the campaign. They parted without even the chance for a warning after a fight i ended up reloading. Will we meet again in this map? (spoiler no we didnt^^) Will we meet again during the rest of the campaign? No idea. Whats with "my" gear on the 2nd char now? How come someone on steam warned me about only the main char carrying over items to the next map of a campaign? I must have missed that in the tutorials, or it simply isnt there. Things like that and a few more. Will update as i play in case i find the time
I just don't enjoy it as much as Heroes of Might and Magic and too many core features I know and love are changed in Songs of Conquest, for the sake of being different, which unfortunately leaves me wanting something else when playing SoC. It's not bad, it just doesn't hit the same way, particularly the army size limits, magic system, and the way towns are built.
TLDR: If you were/are a HoMM3 fan and are longing for a good, modern game based on the HoMM formula, then you should definitely give this game a long, hard look. This is, by far, the best HoMM remake of a game I've seen so far. It doesn't just dress up the HoMM 3 formula in a new set of clothes and slap an original name on it, but genuinely improves upon the already great foundations of the genre. Instead of a simple remake Songs of Conquest is a reimagining of what made HoMM so great. It is bold enough to change core mechanics and features in ways that, in my opinion, improve upon the formula greatly. Gone are doomstacks as in Songs of Conquest all stacks are severely limited. Gone is the RNG of what spells you get to research as all spells are available to all players from the very start. Gone is your generic mana pool, but instead every unit generates one, or more, out of five types of "essence" (i.e. specialized mana) on each of its turns, which allows you to cast the spells that require those particular types of essence, basically making your troop composition your "spellbook". Towns are upgraded a lot more flexibly and you can build multiple of the same unit lair if you so desire, making for more flexibility. The list goes on. On top of that the game is presented in a truly beautiful pixelart style throughout and makes your stay in the Songs of Conquest universe all the more pleasant with equally beautiful and atmospheric music. Unlike HoMM3 the world feels fleshed out, busy, alive and everything can blend together so well that it look like a pixelart landscape photo. That also makes finding point of interest that much harder, but the game offers a highlight function to correct for that. All units are rendered fantastically well too and their animations are just as fitting. In terms of presentation the game is a feast for your eyes and ears, provided you like pixelart in general. All factions feel unique, offer a different playstyle and the units are genuinely original. A lot of the more specialized ones come with cool new abilities not seen in a HoMM game. Learning to play one faction does not mean you automatically learn how to play the rest, which is a good thing. That being said the base game comes with only four of them, which is way too few for my taste, but that is corrected with DLC, which albeit pricey (compared relatively to the price of the base game), does add, at the point of time of writing this, another three great and fleshed out factions, with their own terrain themes, map objects and buildings and equally unique playstyles. The complete package is a very well-rounded game that can offer easily hundreds of hours of enjoyment. On the negative side - even though the maps can be so beautiful, fleshed out and detailed, there is simply not that many of them as a result, especially if you are looking for quality maps on the bigger size since those are pretty laborious to create. Somewhat correcting for this is the fact that the game ships with a really well made map editor, which albeit having some quirks, allows people to create their own maps, as they see fit. The integrated ability to generate random maps along a set of parameters makes starting a map project much easier as the editor allows you to create one, up to a certain size, and them modify it to suit your tastes. Maps, and mods, are shared on Mod.io, making it platform-independent, even if the integrated functionality of sharing and downloading maps is pretty rudimentary. All in all, this is a fantastic HoMM reimagining that, in my opinion, every HoMM fan should try out and absolutely recommend it.
The map is so cluttered with needless detail that it is difficult to see what is going on. Play HoMM3. That is just better.
