Gave me an Existential Crisis | 10/10

Incredible story & concept, Not a traditional horror game by any means, it doesn't relay on cheap jumpscares, instead, it haunts you with the old time question of "What does it truly mean to exist?". This game puts you in a fps perspective to experience this philosophical dilemma

Positive
- The sound design is on another level. It creates an atmospheric ambience that blends perfectly with the game’s lore. I also loved how almost every object is interactive, with countless pieces of hidden lore revealed through these interactions., and graphics are great especially for a 10 yr game, - The biggest strength is obviously the story. Personally, I can overlook or adapt to almost any other shortcoming when the story is worth it, and in this case it absolutely is.
Negative
- You can't fight back enemies, you can only hide. This, coupled with the some vast open areas with minimal visibility tent to make you get lost easily, but it's not a big deal
Easily on the most unique experiences I've had playing videogames. first off, the horror aspect of the game. SOMA will make you realize what we fear isn't what we're prone to fear. So instead of throwing some cheap, loud jumpscares at you it tries its best to make you feel how you WOULD feel if you were to close your eyes and wake up 100 years or so from now (although yes, as a psychological horror game it does a very good job at making the atmosphere scary and that the creatures you encounter/escape are genuinely terrifying). SOMA's story is one of the best in any medium I've ever experienced. Every decision you'll need to make you make for yourself. They won't change the ending, they won't give you better items, they won't give you an advantage against the enemies. You don't even need to make the decisions if you don't want to... you can just move on and never think about it again but that in itself is another decision. They simply make you question (and sometimes doubt) yourself and if you would be able to make the "right" decision even if it was the most important decision you've had to make. You play as Simon. A simple, relatable man with no ambition who ends up being the "saviour" of humanity. You have Catherine as your companion throughout the game and I have to say, the dialogue between these two is some of the most interesting, self-aware, existential dialogue I've ever heard. It makes you think about what it really means to be human or to live in a situation where "being human" is simply having the mind and memories of one, not the body. (of course it's way deeper than that but I just don't want to overcomplicate this review) The gameplay is simple and effective (for this game) and also very intuitive which fits the game really well. You won't need to master game mechanics or any kind of skill any more than you would in real life but it also never feels dull or boring. And the ending... with all its sadness is beautiful. They really nailed the bittersweet feeling you get from it which is rare among games like this where the ending is either too vague and open or too sudden and rushed. It's absolutely without a question worth your time and money so give it a shot whenever you can.
A brilliant game, despite the darkness of its setting and subject matter. The atmosphere and storyline are simply excellent, the soundtrack is exceptional, and the game's tone is perfect by which I mean there is flawless coherence between substance and style, along with a certain restraint regarding effects (the game avoids going overboard). This draws the player quite literally even deeper into its apocalyptic world, which is surely the most philosophically bleak I have ever encountered. The sense of empathy with the "main" character works very well, which is an essential element given the nature of the story.
soma is a game that will legitimately give you existential crisis and question your own humanity. a slow-burn, atmospheric sci-fi horror, full of peak storytelling. genuine banger from the dev of amnesia, exploring sci-fi genre in its own way. 10/10
It touches on many layers of the psychological. An unapologetic stress-test of ethical uses of technology and epistemological reaches of the human psyche.
bu oyun çok iyi lan
Wow. Simplesmente incrível, o jogo me deixou desconfortável do começo ao fim.
Whatever god came to our realm to bless this game's creation, whatever developer sold their soul to produce this piece of media, whatever child was sacrificed to bestow fate upon the keyboards that coded this game-- thank you. 11/10 game, would take Simon's place just to have more of it.
