Solstice is a visual novel, where your choices don’t have that much of an effect on the story. I’m hesitant to say too much about it, seeing as the story is the main, and really, only reason to play. There’s no real gameplay beyond reading, and making an occasional choice. The setting/premise is unique enough, but looking back at my time with Solstice, I can’t really think of anything that I’d say is worth experiencing. If you’re into visual novel games, give it a shot, otherwise, there’s nothing here that’ll change your mind towards the genre.
...I gave up. It's super subjective but I couldn't make myself to finish it. It's boring and characters are hella annoying. Also it's buggy, I lost my progression at least twice which didn't add more wish to struggle through it. Story is kinda interesting but nothing to actually catch my attention. Graphic style is pleasant but sound effects are not. Between Yes and No I'd rather choose Meh but it's not the option so.
Very meh. Wasn't impressed with the story or characters, I mainly liked Yani and Galen. It's a pretty game though.
Solstice is a dystopian mystery thriller visual novel. It does give you some choices that direct the story (four endings possible). But mostly it is a collaboration of beautiful artwork and crafty story-telling. One of my more enjoyable stories to follow along to date (and I really enjoy visual novels of all genres). I have only discovered two of the four endings and am over two hours in. There is lots of dialogue and every character you meet has their own story told and brought to resolve by the end of the main story in some way. My only possible negative is that the game may end up being to short in the long run. I really enjoy the artwork in this game and the characters too. I wanted to know more about them so I am hoping in the future for a second game or something to follow up on the back-stories or further future stories of the characters. A guide to help you with achievements & when to save! I recommend only using this after your first blind play-though however! 💖 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1485672804
Very pretty visual novel. The screenshots don't do it justice since the images are slightly animated. Multiple endings with a lot of choices. Should take an average reader about 5-6 hours for one playthrough.
The art and music were very well-done and the graphics ran smoothly on my potato desktop. Furthermore, I enjoyed that you jump between the POV of Galen, a foreign doctor, and Yani, a wayward engineer. However, like Cinders (a previous game made by this developer), Solstice is very much focused on talking to NPCs and trying to win their political favour (for lack of a better term). Therefore, if that is not your cup of tea, then this game will not be for you. Otherwise, I would recommend this game.
Visual novel with an intricate story, good character development and a lot of choices. The last few achievements are painstaking and require several replays of the last part of the story. Overall quite interesting though I wouldn't bother trying to get every last plot variant for the final achievement.
A visual novel with a gorgeous art style and an interesting enough story although some parts were a bit wtf.
If you enjoy good storytelling and especially quippy dialogue, different endings and a biiit more innuendo to your story than normally, then this is your kind of visual novel. The music is excellent, the characters likeable, even the not so nice ones, and the setting is unusual.
