GTA под прикрытием

★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8/10 ✅
Sleeping Dogs is overall massive action packed open world game that made me say WOW, honestly story is better than max payne 3 and there's so much things to do in the game Pros: Good combat Beautiful Graphics Fun and Good Story Hong Kong Hijacking Actions DLCs (didn't finish YOTS but will soon bcs i am going out of home for a few weeks or so) Cons: Guns Overall: 9/10, this game is definetly worth buying on sale, and if you are like me and you like games with perfect story and great combat, this game is perfect for you
Is incredible knowing first hand how well written the plot of this game is. Brilliant and a serious script that made me feel like I was watching a movie in that regard. The scenery of Hong Kong's environment replicated was really felt trough the screen. From radio songs, npcs walking, dialog with that Hongkongers dialect was amazing to hear from time to time. Is incredible that the game manage to compensate really well the in-betweens of a man that is a double agent struggling to maintain his sanity in a triad world and a cop mentality. This gameplay between the two faces of the same coin by working and doing both jobs as a police man and a triad was interesting enough and it gave a great complexity to the feeling of the issue in the story. That was a great addition and realistic I imagine. This game reminds me so much of movies I watched from Hong Kong such as "Beast Stalker", from 2008. "The Stool Pigeon" from 2010. These two are my favorites. Also "Accident", from 2009. "Overhead" which is some sort of a trilogy, more of anthologies than directed sequels from the first from 2009 and 2011. Also the infamous and famous trilogy of Infernal Affairs. It is obvious that in the time this game was being developed the creators might have been eyeing these type of films from Hong Kong, which I might add, Hong Kong has incredible cinematography history. Also movies from South Korea that this game reminds me of too were "The Beast", from 2019 and "Hot Blooded" from 2022 which these two are also my favorites. Is a shame what happen to close doors and that titles such as this one with and incredible name for an ip by the way, suffer from whatever happen. At least we know Wei staid in Hong Kong living his life. So long Wei.

English translation generated with the assistance of AI.
Too Good to Be the Only One
I remember playing this game on the Xbox 360 a long time ago. I had already beaten it there and once on PC as well. After sitting untouched in my library for several years, I finally went for 100% completion, which, by the way, isn't tiring at all, aside from the collectibles, which can be a bit of a problem if you don't feel like hunting them all down. Other than that, though, what a satisfying 100% to complete! And then there's the story, which is easily a 100/10. It's a shame Activision gave up on the project and left it in Square Enix's hands. I think the True Crime series deserved more games, unlike Sleeping Dogs, which unfortunately looks like it will remain a one-off.
SLEEPING DOGS 2!!?
Sleeping Dogs is an absolute masterpiece and a true classic. Years after its release, it still stands head and shoulders above many modern open-world games. Why? Because it has a unique identity. It never tried to just be a "GTA clone"—it carved its own path with a visceral, brutal combat system inspired by Hong Kong cinema, an incredible story of moral duality with Wei Shen, and an unmatched atmosphere. The community has never forgotten this game whenever a similar theme is shown at major events like The Game Awards, or when titles like Ananta (Project Mugen) are announced, the chat instantly explodes with thousands of fans citing Sleeping Dogs because they miss this exact essence and combat system. Sleeping Dogs is NOT GTA, so stop trying to compete with GTA. Sleeping Dogs won't sell like a new GTA, BUT A SEQUEL WOULD ABSOLUTELY SELL A LOT. Sadly, modern publishers suffer from an obsession with trying to please a "modern audience" that DOESN'T EVEN EXIST, leading to over-budgeted, watered-down, censored games filled with boring puzzles and empty, massive maps. Sleeping Dogs proved that real players want a focused experience, with a living open world that doesn't need to be huge if it's well-crafted, bringing various mini-games and activities across the map while maintaining high quality. If Square Enix or any other publisher ever decides to finally give us the highly-anticipated Sleeping Dogs 2, here is the gold mine blueprint for a guaranteed and profitable masterpiece:

MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL, MAINTAIN THE ESSENCE OF THE GAME.
Don't make the game "soft": Keep the raw, brutal environmental executions and the mature, realistic tone. The violence serves to reflect the grim reality of the criminal underworld.
Focus on the Police/Investigator side: Modern gaming is saturated with playing as criminals. A sequel should deeply expand Wei Shen's police work. Let us dynamically arrest suspects, respond to live radio dispatches in real-time, and investigate crime scenes dynamically and actively within the environment—without boring puzzles. The focus must be on interrogating suspects and following clues directly in the open world. AND DO NOT CUT OUT THE CRIMINAL SIDE OF THE GAME! Give more focus to the police aspect, but leave the player completely free to do whatever they want, whether good or bad. In the end, they must face the consequences of their choices.
Keep the core freedom: Let the player choose between a "clean cop" approach (calling for backup, using non-lethal tactics) or a brutal, corrupt, undercover approach (using the environment to extract info, keeping confiscated goods).
Better, not bigger: We don't need a map 4 times larger filled with microtransactions. We want the same formula, but refined with today's physics, better driving mechanics, expanded martial arts, and next-gen graphics, whether it stays in Hong Kong or moves to any other suitable setting.
Companies just need to listen to real players and understand what they want for the profit to come. Every single day, all over the internet, there are thousands of real gamers giving valuable ideas FOR FREE for the games and franchises they love. A clear example of this is exactly what I am doing right now. Just pay attention to the community and you will succeed. We are still waiting for a sequel to Sleeping Dogs.
It's basically GTA in Hong Kong, with brutal kung fu brawls, John Woo-style gunplay, and gritty Triad drama to boot.
📖 Story & Characters
You play as Wei Shen, a heavily conflicted undercover cop who gets transferred back to Hong Kong from the US to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad. We learn his sister died from an overdose of heroin supplied directly by Dog Eyes, a ruthless high-ranking member of the Sun On Yee, giving Wei immediate, personal stakes to burn the underworld down from the inside out. Starting at the very bottom as a low-level street enforcer alongside childhood friend Jackie Ma under Red Pole boss Winston Chu, you work your way up the Triad hierarchy. Navigating those internal gang rivalries and power struggles gives a brilliant first impression of how gritty, lived-in, and well-developed the world feels. As Wei climbs higher through the ranks, he deals with a wider cast of heavy hitters across the underworld, from ruthless Red Poles like Big Smile Lee and Henry Fang, to scheming figures like Two Chin Tsao, all the way up to the Sun On Yee’s Chairman, Uncle Po. This is heightened even further by the constant tension of the undercover operation, as Wei struggles to balance his duty as a cop with his growing ties to the gang and his deep feelings of loyalty to Jackie. On the law enforcement side, you interact with figures like your handler Inspector Raymond Mak and Superintendent Thomas Pendrew. While they serve their purpose in steering the investigation and giving Wei his police assignments, I don't think they were nearly as in-depth or compelling as the criminal characters on the Triad side. Despite this, the phenomenal voice acting and top-tier motion capture make everyone feel like distinct, real people with grounded motivations. You see it right away with Winston coming off as the hot-headed, aggressive top dog of the turf, while Jackie acts as the more eager, hesitant guy just trying to prove himself. They carry the story seamlessly without ever feeling like actors just reading lines in a booth. Overall, the story is brilliant and deeply captivating from start to finish, though it isn't without a few narrative stumbles. Certain sections can feel a bit jumpy or sudden, such as after a major character very close to Wei gets arrested and the main plot seemingly forgets about it for several missions before picking the thread back up, and there are specific late-game narrative scenarios I can't mention without spoiling things that felt a little flat. Luckily, those minor flaws are easily balanced out by the sheer volume of exciting, high-stakes, and tense scenarios that keep you hooked.
👊 Gameplay
The core focus is brutal, Batman Arkham-style melee combat centered on timing, light/heavy strike combinations, and directional counters. Executing combos, grappling enemies, and throwing goons into environmental hazards like glowing neon signs, ice chippers, or air conditioning units is endlessly entertaining, and feels ridiculously cool every single time. There are gunfights mixed into the action, but beyond the Vault Shooter mechanic, where vaulting over low cover or aiming while leaping mid-air temporarily slows down time so you can easily line up headshots, it boils down to a fairly standard cover shooter. Luckily, the main draw and primary focus of the combat remains the martial arts brawl, which carries the majority of the game. As you play, your actions feed into distinct progression trees. Cop Experience is earned by minimizing collateral damage and completing police objectives, unlocking tactical perks like improved shooting accuracy and disarm moves. Triad Experience rewards fluid, varied, and aggressive combat, unlocking heavy melee strikes, strike-buffs, and brutal combo finishers. You can also collect missing Jade Statues around the city and return them to Sifu Kwok, Wei’s old martial arts instructor from his childhood before he moved to San Francisco, to unlock classic kung fu moves, like leg sweeps and arm breaks. Outside of main missions, the open-world map features clean exploration collectibles separate from its side missions. You can hunt down Health Shrines scattered across districts to permanently boost Wei’s maximum health, or open Lockboxes spread around the city for quick injections of cash and equipment. Alongside these collectibles are various repetitive side activities, such as clearing out Drug Busts by fighting gang members and hacking security cameras, running street races, completing minor Cop Jobs, or visiting Martial Arts Clubs, karaoke bars, and cockfighting arenas. Personally, I found a lot of these side activities quite boring and repetitive since they rely on the same simple loops over and over. That said, I can still see how they provide extra value for players who want to sink more time into the world, offering additional gameplay alongside cash, XP, and Face Experience to buy high-end clothing and luxury vehicles.
🏙️ The World
Hong Kong itself is fantastic and deeply immersive. The city design is brilliant, vibrant, and packed with atmosphere, capturing the distinct identity of Hong Kong across its varied districts, from the towering glass skyscrapers of Central to the rain-slicked, neon-drenched alleys and crowded night markets of North Point. Everything comes together to create a authentic sense of place: local vendors shouting across street-side food stalls selling pork buns and dim sum, pedestrians constantly bantering in natural Cantonese, and left-hand drive traffic packed with iconic red taxis and Asian compact cars. Cruising through the city while tuning into radio stations blasting local Cantopop alongside hip-hop and rock creates a genuinely rich, lived-in environment that feels alive at every corner.
🎮 DLC
The Definitive Edition bundles together all 24 DLC packs from the original game, ranging from cosmetic outfits and weapon packs to major story extensions like Nightmare in North Point and Year of the Snake, as well as mission chains like Wheels of Fury. While I gave Wheels of Fury a shot to unlock the weaponized DNT supercar, I found the story surrounding it narrative-wise uninteresting and completely half-baked. It would have been far better to just give you the vehicle outright, as anything that distracted from the core Triad story felt out of place and failed to hold my interest. After looking into the remaining story DLCs, I didn't bother trying them, without the compelling narrative hooks of the main game driving things forward, relying solely on the raw, repetitive gameplay loops held zero appeal for me.
🤔 Final Thoughts
Despite those pacing hiccups, the game looks great, runs silky smooth on modern hardware, and is an absolute blast from start to finish. The way the smooth combat, detailed open world, and heavy crime story blend together makes this an overall fantastic experience that I highly recommend, making it a true modern classic.
Here for that pork bun. This game was and is a lot of fun.
