massively disappointing if you've played the other skate games, the map sucks, the gameplay doesnt feel as smooth, the story is the biggest downgrade, and there's genuinely nothing to do after a few hours. too many microtransactions and the cosmetics are awful. The only upgrade is the multiplayer, but Its not enough to cover up the issues. just play skate 3

I fully believe there's potential for this game, maybe not a perfect sequel to skate 3 but there's something in there buried underneath all the bugs and EA sticking their hands into this game like they did. This game has been put out there for nearly a year and still has a early access label putting aside the season passes and every other form of trying to slurp up your money, it's baffling but telling that they haven't and likely won't fix any of the bugs i've encountered and are contempt with their "finished product" to release passes despite the game needing some MAJOR TLC but we all know EA, and it's just sad to have the game not shine like it should. I only don't recommend because of the current state it's in.
theres NOTHING to do ..
I didn't have the words for it until now, but Skate is a perfect representation of how modern AAA studios will never be able to recapture the flame that made them famous in the first place. Skate 3 was such a simplistic, yet unendingly enjoyable game for the simple fact that the game left you to your own devices in a way that worked. Now? From my time playing Skate before, it felt sterile and like the multiple development cycles had taken its toll on every facet of the game. Playtesters have come out in every stage of the game thus far and share their experiences of how EA has been stripping away positive aspects as it gets further developed, and leaning further into microtransactions and predatory monetization practices. For me, the most important and immediately telling aspect of what makes this game ultimately a failure, is that it's a free to play, live service model. EA isn't smart, they consist of the same out of touch billionaire executives who see dollar signs and choose inefficient, and unintelligent profit driven development decisions, that fail in the end to deliver numbers to the scale they were looking for. Once profits don't turn up as high as they hoped, the project dies in the water without getting past "Early Access", which it shouldn't have had the luxury of pretending to be in the first place. It's truly concerning to me that so many people can openly praise and defend EA for going forward with a live service model and dropping the game with a full cosmetic shop and multiple passes, all in the name of helping the small indie team Electronic Arts fund their passion project. This game really could've been great, especially if EA decided that reigniting people's love and admiration for their titles was part of any equation they would ever want to engage with. Instead, they took the simplest route possible, the one that gave the least resistance in their eyes. I think that anyone who gives this game a positive review in blindingly good faith, are not only part of the reason why this has become an issue in the first place, but they themselves are the consumer in which this product was made for. Low intelligence players who don't necessarily care if a new title holds itself to the standard of its predecessors, or if there's really any quality content to be had past the surface gameplay that might be enough for some. Why ask for good gameplay and ethics, when I can just play as the meat man for $12.99?
Gets better with time, its cool. You can not compare this to original skate series, completely different vibe with graphics, collabs, missions. Great animations, lacks content for sure.
Terrible aggravating waste of time. Everytime that I try to start it on my PC it never works. This makes me insanely mad. All i want to do is play the game and not have to mess with a whole bunch of bs specs and crap on my pc. The game needs to work right the first time. I dont understand why people say get a pc and then it doesnt work as good as a normal system. And no I am not gonna youtube it and try to figure out the anticheat or whatever. It needs to work right the first time all im trying to do is relive the nostalgia of skate from growing up playing skate 2 and 3. :(
this game ruined a franchise that molded my childhood, even without the nostalgia the original skate games are leagues above this polished turd. I would genuinely expect this type of slop from a roblox developer, this is what happens when you sellout your beloved franchise, this is the uncle tom of games.
Not Recommended
I've put almost 48 hours into this game, and honestly I think that's enough time to finally say how I feel about it. When Season 0 came out I defended this game. It was early access, so I figured I'd give the devs time to improve it. After playing through multiple seasons though, I don't think it's going in the direction I hoped it would. I'd give it a 6/10. The thing is, the actual skating is still really fun. It feels a lot like Skate 3, which is the only reason I keep coming back. Pulling off long trick lines never really gets old. If I get a skating game itch, this is the easiest way to scratch it on PC instead of hooking up my Xbox 360 for Skate 3. The problem is everything around the skating. The biggest disappointment for me is San Van. There are some good spots, but way too much of it is just normal city streets. My favorite thing in Skate 3 was bombing huge downhill runs while trying to land as many tricks as possible at top speed. This game barely has anything like that. The parking garage is honestly one of the best spots in the whole game because it actually lets you build speed and keep a line going. I also expected the world to grow over time. I thought each season would permanently improve the map. Maybe construction sites would finally finish, we'd get new skateparks, or new areas would stay after the season ended. Instead, it feels like the opposite happens. Seasonal ramps and parks get removed, so sometimes it honestly feels like the game is losing content instead of getting more of it. The X Games update is cool, but it's mostly just one area of the map. Almost a year into early access and we're still on one map with barely any permanent additions. The game also pushes the whole "make your own fun" idea, and that can be awesome... until you realize all your and everyone else's work disappears. You spend time setting up ramps and rails, testing everything, making a fun line, then you log off and it's all gone. Next time you play you have to build it all over again. Why can't player creations stay? Even if it's something like Rust servers where community creations stick around until the server resets. Most people would rather play someone else's cool park than spend an hour rebuilding one every session. It's the same reason why the people play mario maker or geometry dash spend more time playing comunity levels than they do making them. Progression is another thing that really hurts the game. Fast travel being locked behind challenges is just annoying. You've already physically been to these places, so why can't you fast travel there? The challenges themselves also get repetitive fast and remind me of old mobile games where you're chasing 3-star ratings over and over. On top of that, you have to level up four different districts separately just to unlock the fast travel locations for the specific district you completed the challenges in. It is also where you get props and rails, which are the tools you need to actually make the sandbox fun.

What I liked:

The skating still feels great.
Landing long trick lines is satisfying.
Modern graphics.
When you have a good custom setup, the game is at its best.
What I didn't like:

Only one map after almost a year.
Very few memorable downhill runs.
Seasonal content disappears instead of becoming permanent.
Player-made parks disappear when you leave.
Fast travel locked behind progression for 4 seprate districts.
Challenges get repetitive quickly and are required if you want more props for tricks and sandbox enjoyment.
Too much reliance on players making their own fun and not enouguh attractions made by the devs themselves
I'm still hoping 1.0 surprises me because I really do want this game to succeed. There just isn't another modern Skateboarding game like Skate. But after almost a year, I expected a lot more. If they added more maps, permanent skateparks, better downhill courses, let us save player creations, and stopped locking basic features behind repetitive challenges, I think a lot more people would stick around. Come for the skating, leave because of the annoying mechanics.
i suck at skating in real life. i can't ollie or do tricks. i only know how to push and steer
