pure art. some of the best soundtrack ever too btw
totally rad game
I bought Skate Story before release because I was genuinely excited about what the developers were trying to do here. This isn't simply another Tony Hawk, Skate, or Session. The developers clearly wanted to create something different — a colorful, strange, almost magical world where skating is only one part of the experience. And honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The missions are often weird, funny, and surprisingly engaging. Sometimes I had absolutely no idea what the game wanted me to do, while other missions were immediately obvious, but somehow that never killed the momentum. There was always something strange around the corner, another funky mission to discover, or another ridiculous situation to get involved in. The world itself is probably my favorite part. The colors, strange creatures, bizarre characters and overall atmosphere give Skate Story an identity of its own. It doesn't feel like it's desperately trying to recreate another skating game. It feels like the developers wanted to make their own little world and then build skating into it. That said, there are definitely things that frustrated me. The movement can feel pretty clunky, and the camera is honestly terrible sometimes. There were moments where I was fighting the camera more than I was fighting the actual mission. For achievement hunters, there's another annoying limitation: at the moment, there's no way to replay the story properly or start a New Game Plus. If you're someone who wants to clean up achievements after finishing the main story, that can be a real pain and may force you to be much more careful about what you do during your first playthrough. But despite those problems, I came away from this game genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It's colorful, weird, creative, occasionally frustrating, and completely committed to its own identity. If you're looking for another traditional skating game, this might not be what you expect. But if you're willing to jump into its strange little world and embrace the craziness, I'd absolutely recommend it.

Sometimes, someone makes a piece of art with such immaculate vibes that even if you don't really understand it, it's still an amazing experience. This is one of those pieces of art. I don't entirely get it. I see glimpses of something here and there. Metaphors and meanings, scattered about. Something seen, something certainly heard, something felt, but nothing quite comprehended in full. Perhaps that is the intent? Maybe this isn't some grand allegory that can tie itself together in a tight little bow. Maybe the journey taken in this game is simply its own journey. A journey with meaning, certainly. A story with a story to tell. Vibes that are, as the massive floating skull put it, "IMMACULATE." But that's it. Perhaps this is a story that stands only by itself, with a meaning that can be gleaned without visceral investigation, despite how it is presented.
