About

“Onii-chan, you really are a lonely person.”
“Did you lose faith in me?”
“No. I love you, onii-chan.”
Unable to bear the ugliness of the world and terrified of other people, the protagonist develops the ability to read minds.
He shuts himself away and submits a light novel he wrote, which unexpectedly wins a newcomer’s award. But the jealousy and envy that follow only deepen his distrust of the few human relationships he still has. Those around him hurt his fragile heart without even realizing it.
His only remaining comfort is his younger sister, who lives with him.
Clinging to each other just to stay alive, the two sink night after night into a twisted, unhealthy codependency.
―I keep living alone, talking about my own prejudices and cursing the world. Day after day.
I ripped off Dostoevsky, half-assed it into something modern, and turned it into a light-novels.
I mean, I tried. In my own stupid way.
Had the heroines talk about “existentialism” like it was supposed to mean something.
The gameplay is an old-school, straight-up classic visual novel. The text fills the entire screen, so read as much as you want—or just right-click to hide it and enjoy the art. That’s it. Read, click, and vibe.
Live through a gloomy, suffocating real world through an overly sensitive protagonist… then come home and savor the only happiness left in his life: the time he spends with his little sister, his one true comfort.
As the friction with the people around you keeps piling up, there’ll be moments when their petty thoughts make you feel actual murderous rage. And in those moments, you can use your mind-reading ability to drive them to suicide.
That snide bastard. That arrogant asshole. Hit them right where it hurts—right in the deep-seated insecurities they never want anyone to see—and take them out. It’s not like you’re killing them with your own hands, so you won’t get caught. The ones truly at fault are the tasteless, mindless conformists who do nothing but obey society without a shred of aesthetic sense.
…But is that really okay?
What is happiness, anyway?
And in the end—what kind of future will the protagonist and his sister walk into?
Witness it with your own eyes.

Reviews
I think a lot of negative reviewers either don't read VNs or just don't like Denpa, which is fine but then may lead to reviews like some of the ones you see here where they complain about the game being pretentious when it's literally a story about a pretentious person (written that way on purpose and for a reason, fyi!!). I think if you're a fan of the medium you should give it a try regardless, and even if you don't like it then maybe you can at least offer a commentary of actually substance and critique the work for what it is instead of attacking the game for what it isn't, as one of the characters says.
I feel like I could have read a lot more of the characters' interactions with the protagonist. They felt very real and well thought out and I would have loved to see more of them. But the quick pace of the game is a strength in and of itself, on the other hand. Often I felt I could relate to the main character's feelings and attitudes, so it's amusing to see he seems to be quite disliked.

TLDR: It's not Needy Streamer Overload, but it's alright and even more than alright in some parts. 3-5 hours length. Worth the price in my opinion. I absolutely loved Needy Streamer Overload so as soon as I found out that another game from the same creator is coming out, it was an instant "Add to Wishlist" from me. Now when I finished playing it... The Good: 1. The atmosphere and the MC. It is artsy, adorably pretentious and (pseudo)philosophical. VN draws a lot of inspiration from the classics. Hasuya-kun is a Raskolnikov wannabe, an aspiring writer (but he is already a published author, which he will remind you every second of the game) who claims to be able to read other people's thoughts. He is so full of himself, but it's not a bug, it's a feature. I couldn't read the novel in one go, he's so insufferable, I needed to take breaks and touch grass (author's intent, no doubt). The game does its best when it remembers it's the psychological horror. 2. The routes. In the game Hasuya explores the relationships with various people in his life and uses this to pass judgement and share his very insightful (if you're 14) thoughts. The cast of characters and their designs are great. 3. THE SOUNDTRACK! An absolute highlight for me. Some people are saying that it reflects the Nyalra personal struggles, especially of coming up with the sequel for Needy Streamer Overload, so do what you will with that information. The Bad: 1. The titular Sister. Sahana is basically a non-character. She exists solely to say "onii-chan(˶ᵔᵕᵔ˶)" and periodically spout the same pseudointellectual nonsense her brother does. Meanwhile she's supposedly a gifted child who does absolutely nothing, but she's gifted. because...? I kept waiting for some kind of twist involving her. Is she real? Is she alive? Is MC projecting his own feelings and co-dependency towards a girl who wants nothing to do with him? But nope. it's pretty straightforward. She's just an imouto incarnate. My good faith interpretation: a lot of classical novels have the pure innocent female character who acts as a voice of reason and conscience for the male character. She loves him unconditionally and has zero personality except for loving and redeeming MC. Bad faith interpretation: it's a bait for a certain type of audience. 2. Second ending. I don't want to call it true ending, because it's so saccharine sweet, boring and entirely unearned. If
"go outside and touch grass"
is a profound revelation to you, you 'll find it poignant...It reminds me of one of the endings for Needy Streamer, except in Needy Streamer your gameplay choices lead you to that. The ending feels earned through your actions, here it just happens. It actively cancels out your whole playthrough. It makes me wish again that Steam had neutral reviews, it was just so...bad and wish-fulfilling. 3. It feels unfinished in some places, for example, two characters have alternative endings to their routes, while others don't. Minor complaint, really.
Dokudami
alternative ending is the best though, it doesn't overstay its welcome and actually feels hopeful and human-written.
I'm not one for reviewing simply because I haven't had many games entice me enough to leave feedback, recommend, or judge, but I've noticed a lot of people leaving negative reviews. I can't definitely say whether or not I recc, but what I can say is; *I* liked it!! AND I wanted to share some info and a smidge of what I thought about it !! 1, No. There is NO incest or anything more than a familial relationship with Sahana (*our* sister) so pls do not get this if that's what you were expecting... yuck! Pervss 2, Its actual playthrough time is quite short... but I did really enjoy how I got sucked into the story 3, MC is quite edgy and sometimes I found it hard to decipher their 'true' feelings (simply bc they change seemingly fast) Personal opinions; There are SO many art, literature, and social media metaphors and refs. (Why are there not reviews or discussions properly speaking about this???) I think outside of the actual game's artwork, the way traditional classical art finds its way into this game are literally absolutely beautiful. I admire how the comparisons, scriptures, and texts are put into the literal throughout the whole game. After looking through some of the creator's personal socials, I like to believe he, himself is also super genuinely into classic/masterwork art. I do praise this game for allowing the author+creator to express his thoughts through art, and that is LITERALLY SOP+NSO. Tbh, this being Nyalra's 2nd game is pretty freakin cool. I'm really psyched to see what else he will create!!
So I beat Sister Other Paranoia. So, by the end it did turn it around a bit. I guess. Honestly.. it hard to say I really enjoy it. Like I will say the VN did execute what it wanted to do with it theme and lesson. This VN, although selling it as product, really feels like a more writer personal's story. And by that, I wouldn't say it was vent piece. But you can tell this is like writer trying to figure out his own thing in life and want make it into a story and he channel his energy into this work. But he also decide he want to sell this as a commercial product to public which, okay fair, but I would at least have effort showing it trying to be digestible or make pacing better if he going be telling this type of story. It seem like he doesn't care if VN doesn't jell with popular crowd if they get "filter" by the angst/depreciated writing which is 95% of the entire game. Which I understand, but If I'm going recommend this to someone, this is a very hard sell. But yeah the angst/depreciated writing really drag everything down after awhile. I was open to it first considering context and situation the protagonist is. However, after 2nd hour I really started get tired of it. Especially since there very little variety of gameplay or things to break up the pacing. Once intro is over even though you can "pick your own path" it become very formulaic. And sometime there illusion of choices at some part, which make you think you should try prepare or do something. But nah it all linear. Not till you beat it once can you do something different so keep that in mind if you do decide play it. The one thing that could break up pacing or help game more if your Little Sister was in the game more. But sadly she really not there till near the end. Which was I feel like is mistake especially since quite marketing you assume she have bigger part in terms of content. So like, It hard to really sell this to anyone unless your "fan of the writer" or really into Denpa-style writing... but even then. Though I guess why I kind of did pick it up and try stick with it. But still it kind of disappointing overall but.. I guess there was some cool lines, zingers, moments, and philosophy I took away with it. So I guess I give it " =/ out of 10"
