A dark visual novel by acclaimed creator nyalra. Overly sensitive to other people's emotions, the protagonist—a light novel writer—develops the ability to read minds, only to be driven even deeper into isolation. His sole remaining comfort is his younger sister, gifted yet lonely.

About

“Onii-chan, you really are a lonely person.”
“Did you lose faith in me?”
“No. I love you, onii-chan.”
Unable to bear the ugliness of the world and terrified of other people, the protagonist develops the ability to read minds.
He shuts himself away and submits a light novel he wrote, which unexpectedly wins a newcomer’s award. But the jealousy and envy that follow only deepen his distrust of the few human relationships he still has. Those around him hurt his fragile heart without even realizing it.
His only remaining comfort is his younger sister, who lives with him.
Clinging to each other just to stay alive, the two sink night after night into a twisted, unhealthy codependency.
―I keep living alone, talking about my own prejudices and cursing the world. Day after day.
I ripped off Dostoevsky, half-assed it into something modern, and turned it into a light-novels.
I mean, I tried. In my own stupid way.
Had the heroines talk about “existentialism” like it was supposed to mean something.
The gameplay is an old-school, straight-up classic visual novel. The text fills the entire screen, so read as much as you want—or just right-click to hide it and enjoy the art. That’s it. Read, click, and vibe.
Live through a gloomy, suffocating real world through an overly sensitive protagonist… then come home and savor the only happiness left in his life: the time he spends with his little sister, his one true comfort.
As the friction with the people around you keeps piling up, there’ll be moments when their petty thoughts make you feel actual murderous rage. And in those moments, you can use your mind-reading ability to drive them to suicide.
That snide bastard. That arrogant asshole. Hit them right where it hurts—right in the deep-seated insecurities they never want anyone to see—and take them out. It’s not like you’re killing them with your own hands, so you won’t get caught. The ones truly at fault are the tasteless, mindless conformists who do nothing but obey society without a shred of aesthetic sense.
…But is that really okay?
What is happiness, anyway?
And in the end—what kind of future will the protagonist and his sister walk into?
Witness it with your own eyes.

Quite disappointing. I haven't read many VNs, but checked this one out because of the previous game of the author (which I haven't played myself). Making the MC insufferable was a choice I was down with, but there's no real pay off. He just says some mean things the whole game through and people kill themselves over it (or they do it in his imagination, who knows, but it doesn't make a real difference in the end). Really wished there was more of a twist to it. A meta aspect could have been interesting as well. I thought there was something like this because of the superzooming into the sister's eyes-scene in the trailer, but there's nothing. The sister was also just kinda there. She's called a genius multiple times throughout the game, but she doesn't really do anything.

Pros: Great art and peak music Cons: In vn standards, I feel the story is not well written. The author got good ideas, but the story is just too short. It is realitively hard to provide enough character development for 5+ characters with only 3hrs of gameplay. Tbh, they didn't even get the sister right. They use her as click bait to lure the players in, but her character arc is flat as hell, she was not developed at all. Overall this vn is more like a complilation of short stories + ramblings of the writer, I do not recommend anyone to buy this game in full price.

No Responsibility Review,
8/10 (-1) i loved this game I just wish it was longer i really think their is so much room to really dissect the characters and relationships from SOP a personal favorite of mine is the monkey brain route. (-1) i, like many, want more imouto moments many of the reviews show a lack of discretion, they obviously have played the game but I don’t think many finished the game aka played the true ending. i still have such a strong curiosity for Sahana’s thoughts that’s left a bit up in the air. what does her genius’ness mean exactly? can she read minds like the main character? i know I should just trust her but i guess i am a guilty big brother who wants to read and peer into her mind. if you are open-minded, comfortable with real ♥♥♥♥♥♥ people and thoughts, and want to experience the artistic prowess nyalra has i recommend SOP. if you just wanted imouto incest love simulator with a dash of darkness you’re not really going to get that. and if anything hasuya would read these players minds and criticize how their sexual and intimate desires stop them from actually experiencing the art. speaking as a long time fan of nyalra, his work is often a reflection of his life and intimate thoughts. prior to the critically acclaimed NSO he was working behind the scenes with vtubers and the Japanese streaming space. now after the success of NSO this visual novel illustrates a character who’s debut light novel got published. how does that affect his relationship with art? with himself? with his coworkers? friends? his sister? his parents? nyalra made a creator comment about how this game is almost like a suicide note maybe that means it’s a death letter to his old self, the self that was under immense pressure to release his next creation after a viral success. it’s an experience of a visual novel. the music, character sprites, thought reading mechanics, character specific borders that decay and change over time, and most importantly the writing. it’s a rather beautiful portrayal of something really toxic, murky and ugly. if you get it, you get it. if you don’t you don’t.
So I beat Sister Other Paranoia. So, by the end it did turn it around a bit. I guess. Honestly.. it hard to say I really enjoy it. Like I will say the VN did execute what it wanted to do with it theme and lesson. This VN, although selling it as product, really feels like a more writer personal's story. And by that, I wouldn't say it was vent piece. But you can tell this is like writer trying to figure out his own thing in life and want make it into a story and he channel his energy into this work. But he also decide he want to sell this as a commercial product to public which, okay fair, but I would at least have effort showing it trying to be digestible or make pacing better if he going be telling this type of story. It seem like he doesn't care if VN doesn't jell with popular crowd if they get "filter" by the angst/depreciated writing which is 95% of the entire game. Which I understand, but If I'm going recommend this to someone, this is a very hard sell. But yeah the angst/depreciated writing really drag everything down after awhile. I was open to it first considering context and situation the protagonist is. However, after 2nd hour I really started get tired of it. Especially since there very little variety of gameplay or things to break up the pacing. Once intro is over even though you can "pick your own path" it become very formulaic. And sometime there illusion of choices at some part, which make you think you should try prepare or do something. But nah it all linear. Not till you beat it once can you do something different so keep that in mind if you do decide play it. The one thing that could break up pacing or help game more if your Little Sister was in the game more. But sadly she really not there till near the end. Which was I feel like is mistake especially since quite marketing you assume she have bigger part in terms of content. So like, It hard to really sell this to anyone unless your "fan of the writer" or really into Denpa-style writing... but even then. Though I guess why I kind of did pick it up and try stick with it. But still it kind of disappointing overall but.. I guess there was some cool lines, zingers, moments, and philosophy I took away with it. So I guess I give it " =/ out of 10"
