Shut in is a game with multiple endings, a funny narrator, lots of different ways to get killed and different paths to explore in a cramped environment. I've never suffered from depression so it was interesting to get a look into somebody with what I refer to as 'the victim's mindset'.
Life is sh*t and then you die, but a lot of small things can go a long way to imrpove things at least a bit? The game is about depression and isolating oneself and sometimes way too relatable. It also keeps insulting you about it, like the little mean "voice" in your head - what if people judge me, what if sorting through my stuff takes forever? It doesn't do so in a nice way either. I liked the atmosphere and apparently there's different endings and ways to solve it. I definitely won't recommend it to anyone. Definitely not a recommendation if a game insulting you about the same things your depression does might be triggering. Not necessarily a recommendation if you ever served in a bar and everyone clapping and cheering when you broke a glass sent you into a spiral of anxiety. Definitely a recommendation when you love psychological horror, you're interested in art about depression and you're sometimes making dark jokes about all of it.

Cost, AUD: $3.75 Time to finish: Just over 3 hours. Difficulty setting: N/A PC specs Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-E CPU: Intel i7 10700K @ 3.8GHz GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB RAM: 32GB DDR4 1600MHz Drive: Silicone Power 500GB M.2 PCIe SSD OS: Windows 11 Performance: Perfect. Graphics: There's not really a lot to comment on here. It's pixel art, and it fits. Story: As someone who experiences some of the things this game talks about, I enjoyed the story of this game very much. There was a lot to relate to, and it was just nice going through the motions, helping our character through their daily (albeit very strange) life at home. The humour was the best part for me. I laughed a lot throughout my time with this game. There were multiple endings, and I went through all of them. Each of them offered a very different end, which was a nice touch. Gameplay: The main thing you do in this game is interact with things, die from interacting with said things, or sometimes get items from them, which you can then use on other things. Some things are very difficult to figure out. So much so that after I got my first ending, I looked up a guide for the rest of the endings. I never would have been able to figure out what to do otherwise! Bugs: None. Final thoughts: This game was a short but impactful experience for me. I'm glad I picked this one up. Even if you haven't experienced depression, or agoraphobia or anything like this, I'd still recommend it as it offers a unique experience laced with healthy doses of dark humour. Do I recommend this game? Yes.
I've suffered from depression before. I remember not being able to take care of myself, I remember feeling worthless and empty, and I remember feeling unable to do anything but just lay in bed in the comfort of my room. Honestly, I don't think a game could showcase the way I felt so accurately. The unsettling music, the creepy setting, the overall eerie and ominous vibe, it's all there. It might not represent what everyone with depression or other mental health issues goes through, but it hits close to home for me. In this game, the goal is to leave your house. Sounds easy, but it's really not so simple, because it's a lot more dangerous to take care of yourself in a place that's trying its best to end your life. Solve puzzles, gather items, and navigate the twisted nightmare that is your home. Oh, and don't die. As of now, I've gotten 2 of 4 possible endings in less than three hours. You should try it out. You might find it interesting. Or fun. Or whatever. But if you don't want to, don't worry. Try again tomorrow.

A short and sweet(?) game. I went in blind and suffered (positive) If you like puzzles, depression, and being insulted for everything you do, have fun with this game This game is going to be my personality for the next month now.

This game was definitely cryptic and dark but definitely worth the time I put into playing it. Yeah, the negative talk sucked but having been in a negative space before and regularly I can say this definitely fit the psychological insight sort of vibe. To the creator of the game, I am glad you shared this. Thank you, seriously. I had fun playing it and feel like it was worth the time I spent playing it.
my curiosity got me killed by a swarm of bees
