Short and sweet. Shelldiver is a quick little incremental game with a chill gameplay loop organized around a large skill tree. You dive into the water, grab some delicious jellyfish and floating debris, and come back to the surface to sell it all, upgrade your abilities, and go back down. The skill tree is where the real game is, and it's well made and offers a very well-tuned progression to the endgame. You get to make real decisions about where you focus your collecting abilities, underwater endurance, and inventory. You start swimming slow, collecting slow, and needing to surface for air very frequently, and you finish the game a jellyfish mass murderer, laying waste to all jellies in the ocean, living underwater for as long as you like. In fact, my only real criticism of the game is that, when you start getting into the endgame, the game actually speeds up. You unlock upgrades of such strength that you need to spend less and less time thinking about where to put your upgrades and can quickly just purchase everything. I would have prefered if Shelldiver slowed down a bit in the endgame so we could enjoy our time with the overpowered parts of the skill tree more. All told, Shelldiver is a great time. It's short, well designed, and fun to play. Give it a shot.
Shelldivers is a fun, short numbers-go-up game where you dive to catch jellyfish, gather materials and slowly work your way through a skill tree where you unlock upgrades to your guns and further depths. The art is nice and it's a chill experience for a few hours; nothing incredible, but it works well enough and it's always nice to go from capturing one jellyfish and mining one rock to exploding the entire screen 3 hours later. A fun quick dopamine rush when you need it and easy to finish!
There's no lukewarm rating on Steam, so when I wish I could give a game a "thumb pointing sideways" rating, I usually give positive feedback. Not this time. The "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews ensure I won't harm this game's prospects, so let me explain: Shelldiver is only a shell of a game, an addictive progression system and very basic grinding levels. It's as if they built the systems, but they forgot to create the game. You are a turtle in an island and you dive to get resources, and with them you get improvements to extract even more resources. The island gets more populated, but you'll never interact with the other turtles (you can greet them to get an achievement and that's it, and they'll just offer an emoticon in return) and you wonder what's the point of what you are doing until at the very end, after 5 hours of grinding, you get a final upgrade with the really silly end goal, which doesn't even make real sense, and when you get that, a final cutscene shows that you failed anyway. So, this is just methadone for incremental game addicts, or a gateway drug for people who haven't discovered them yet. Yes, it only takes 5 hours to complete and not thousands like those harmful idle games, but I repeat: there's no game here. If you want a real game, a great game with stakes and lots of content, maybe *too much* content, get Dave the Diver, which is the same, but with incredible depth, amazing pixel art scenes and lots of heart. Shelldiver could have been that, but it chose not to. What's the opposite of feature creep? Here, you only have a progression tree and small barebone levels waiting to be developed into a real game. You still may like it, like most people did, of course, but don't pay 5 bucks for it: just wait for a deep sale.
A fun little game not too much to think about play it if you like this kind of games
Extremely addicting game, with around 3-4 hours of gameplay time. I've unlocked all achievements in 3 hours, got extremely overstimulated by just colors and numbers, and after that couldn't sleep well and even dreamt about the games and collecting jellyfish. Honestly, it's too much, I regret playing it.
Queremos Shelldiver 2
very nice, very cute
