Reviews
Currently, the game feels unfinished. - No toggle aim option. - No ADS sensitivity option. - Extremely boring upgrades that don't have much of an impact. - Botched attempt at a "Borderlands style" weapon system with various stats on them. Again, pretty boring in its current state. I have two positive things to say about the game: - It's pretty on high settings, especially the environments. - It runs at a decent framerate. Do not buy it now. Wait for it to improve if you're interested.
Seriously, this is not the Serious Sam you grew up with. Serious let-down.

Giving this game the Serious Sam 2 treatment is diabolical. TL;DR: The game is well worth its modest price tag, provided you take it for what it is: an imperfect, rough-around-the-edges Serious Sam game with just enough plot to justify the fun, fast-paced shootout along the way. If you're new to the universe and enjoy FPS roguelikes, this is a great entry point before deep-diving into the rest of the franchise. It is important to remember that this is a spin-off - one of many, even if it's the most expensive one so far. No two spin-offs in this series look or play alike, which is a great thing: it keeps the franchise fresh and open to experiments. Same goes for the mainline titles: the Encounters, SS2, BFE, 4, and Siberian Mayhem all had completely different takes on the formula. Yes, this one is different, but Shatterverse delivers exactly what it promises: a solid roguelike loop of blasting through arenas, testing different builds, and experimenting with weapon synergies. Expecting a spin-off to match the scale of the mainline battles is beyond me, especially since the marketing made it clear from the start that the focus is on close-quarters combat rather than kilometer-wide arenas - a shift fairly compensated for by constant weapon drops and randomized gear. Shatterverse prioritizes replayability over groundbreaking technology, and that works in its favor: like any proper roguelike, it hooks you with the "just one more run" loop, encouraging you to push a little further and unlock that next upgrade. By no means is it a perfect Sam game - the content pool could definitely be expanded, and some upgrades are clearly weaker than others. Then again, there is no such thing as a "perfect" Sam game. Not even Siberian Mayhem, as much as I loved it. That's the point of the series: tearing through aliens with an evolving arsenal of wacky guns is supposed to be fun and unpretentious, not over-engineered. Shatterverse offers its own way to enjoy the slaughter, just as SS2 departed from the Encounters, SS3 shifted towards military grit, and SS4 changed the pace again. It saddens me to see this game knee-deep in Mixed reviews, and I genuinely hope Shatterverse finds its audience among Sam fans over time. Yet again, one must imagine Sisyphus happier than the average Serious Sam fan.
The game is fun for being a spinoff made by a different developer and its enjoyable getting trinkets that allow me to do absurd damage or start with super powerful or rare guns HOWEVER the game does not respect your time and efforts in the slightest once you go into act 3, aka the hardest mode, because the game just LOVES to start spamming every annoying ass enemy during that difficulty. You stuck in a small room? Kleer horde with infinite spawning kamikazes that take more than 1 shot to kill about 80% of the time since you're gonna be focused on NOT getting absolutely railed by the 8 kleer that are more than likely crammed right up your ass and if you try and run away well too bad the kleer still catch up and so do the kamikazes. Now lets say you somehow get a good run going and manage to avoid the death rooms, the game will more than likely try and ♥♥♥♥ your entire build by giving you 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥ modifiers to pick from where you are either GUARANTEED to die because of it or you get your entire build ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up by the roulette one. Now you FINALLY after hours of grinding and trinket farming have a build that got you past everything and all the way to the final boss. You know what im about to say already. THE FINAL BOSS IS ABSOLUTE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because not only does he have 3 phases (as far as ive gotten) but he does a stupid move where he splits into 2 different ones and you gotta try and blitz them down before they decide to spam massive AOEs while your dash is on cooldown, then you gotta do the SAME THING while you're being rushed by FODDER ENEMIES along with, you guessed it, KAMIKAZES! Now you're finally on the third phase and guess what. Mental will still try and spam AOEs while you're being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the ass by the fodder and the INFINITE SPAWNING KAMIKAZES! its on par for a final boss since every SS so far has had a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ final boss but this is just straight up bad design overall and its not fun grinding away in an hour long run just to get to mental and start getting spammed with kamikazes since the second you kill one they spawn more within a 2 second timeframe so you cant do ♥♥♥♥ solo unless you somehow get an absolute god run. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNTIL THEY NERF THE KLEERS HP AND MAKE EVERY KAMIKAZE 1 TAP BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOU ARENT GONNA HAVE FUN IF YOU ATTEMPT TO RUN THE FINAL DIFFICULTY TO FIGHT MENTAL, other than that its a solid roguelite and its decently fun when you arent getting ♥♥♥♥ stomped by a horde of kleer directly up your ass nearly 25/8 or dealing with kamikaze spam.
it runs like ♥♥♥♥.
The game play of the game itself is fun enough so if your a DIEHARD fan i say give it a go but ive been playing all day havent found a single lobby with more then one other person in it the games dead on arrival they dont let you just host lobbies either. Not to mention i keep running into a "bug" where if i try searching for a game 2-3 times in a row the game tells me ive tried match making too many times and wont let me play online. not to mention none of the "sams" really feel or look like any of the sams we know except retro and even he sucks. not the worst game honestly for 16$ but just left me wanting more
It's just not that fun. Serious Sam's weapons aren't fit for a rougelite experience, they're by design basic weapon archetypes, and this game doesn't even try to mix them up. What makes Serious Sam games fun is learning the enemies and then utilizing the weapons in an optimal ways depending on the enemy types and arenas. Here - there's just no room for that. Firstly, unlocking the weapons is a part of the meta progression. You start with only Pistol-Shotgun-TommyGun available to you and, judging by how much currency I got, are expected to play for at least 2-3 hours (assuming you complete the runs) before you can unlock a single new weapon. And even then, being a roguelite, the game will dispense the weapons at random, so you're still gonna have to use whatever the game has given you against all kinds of enemies and groups you'd normally dispatch using something else. And you can't even expect to have all of them by the end of a run, as you often just get repeats with slightly altered stats. And that's the main issue with the game, really, the whole concept just doesn't work even on paper imo, and it doesn't really try to solve these issues with anything else. Upgrades you find are super basic, the typical, barely-noticeable '3% more whatever' stuff. The ultimate ability also gets only the most basic incremental upgrades. I can already tell that, weapon order aside, every run's just gonna feel exactly the same, and that's a huge problem for a rogue-lite. The levels also lack any interesting layouts, mechanics, or even visuals, they're just flat, open spaces, with nothing unique to differentiate most encounters. Graphically, it just looks plain. I don't mind the artstyle itself, but it feels like there was no thought put into visual clarity. The environments are both plain and boring yet overdetailed, and the flat lighting makes enemies often just blend in with the environment, especially the kleers, which seem to have to shading to them at all. The UI is terribly cluttered, and when you switch a weapon, no matter how many you have, a huge 8x3 grid shows up right under your crosshair, as you end up with like 3/4 of your screen being covered with useless info. Like, I don't need to constantly see how much money I have or time I spent - and there's no UI customization that I could find either. And then there's the other stuff, like characters being annoying and talking constantly, shaders loading before every level (and there's no justification for this game to have loading times like these) etc., but honestly if the gameplay was fun I could easily forgive those hiccups. But it just isn't. Edit: Gotta vent about my pet peeve - characterization of Retro Sam. They turned him into a joke, where the one liners he says are supposedly his alien language, and all have deeper meanings that have nothing to do with actual words being said. That's dumb already, but then as you play, he keeps saying those same oneliners as just oneliners. And then sometimes he talks normal with the team too. So which is it? I get that it's supposed to be a joke, but good jokes are actually clever and consistent. This is just 'lol random'.
не знаю я не смог в ней просидеть дольше
Probably the worst Serious Sam game, and probably one of the worst games in this specific genre: a roguelike shooter with linear levels, where you select perks, get new weapons, and upgrade/rank them up as you progress. With the release discount, it was around $9. I left it in my basket and ended up buying it after the discount was over, thinking it would still be worth it. Roughly for 10.50 USD But nah. It is horrible. I was born in 2001, and when I was a teenager, around 10 years ago, I played the original Serious Sam games, First Encounter and Second Encounter. Even back then, those games were already around 10–15 years old. And yet, I had way more fun playing them than I am having with this brand-new game. Think about that. A game I played as a teenager, which was already more than a decade old at the time, is still more fun to me than a brand-new Serious Sam game released in 2026. The original game is now roughly 25–26 years old, and somehow, it still does a better job at being fun. And! the old games had some annoying things, especially the save-point locations. Last saves were way too far back, so you had play until you reach where you died and then die there xD (I am a bit hardcore player when comes to these, so I play highest difficulty) Basically, I don't recommend this game, you can just go play other roguelike shooter games. I don't know if it is okey to say another game's name in here, but I can recommend Deadzone Rogue. It has more interesting mechanics and options, rarity + levels of guns and equipment's plus elements and perk combinations. Basically, not worth for 10 USD plus its bad gad game which you should not waste your valuable time, but it's your choice.
-- Intro -- I wouldn't really give a review so early since the game only released not even a week ago, however given what I've seen online with how the game has been received poorly, having negative reviews and comments about it from people before they've even given it a decent chance, I feel like I should give my thoughts on the game because unlike everyone else, I genuinely don't think this is a bad game and I feel like people that have tried the game must be clueless not realising they can upgrade stuff For context, I know all about Serious Sam as it was one of my favourite childhood games (You can probably tell that from my profile picture) and I've played every title on Xbox and after I switched to PC about 3 years ago, I've played them all again and have also tried out the other spin offs which just weren't for me -- Review -- Difficulty: Serious / Mental / Shatterverse The game has 3 acts. I have seen people complain about the game being too hard, yet I have played about 10 games and unlocked Act III: Shatterverse already after I played yesterday where my only teammate left at the start of Act II: Mental. I found it to be really easy and I assume those who are complaining about it must be having a harder time on controller as I know from experience that Serious Sam games are so much better on KB&M. I also suspect people don't understand the game, so I'll explain it throughout the review.. Upgrades: Weapons / Intel / Trinkets There are weapons you can unlock in the game with in-game currency you collect while playing. When you unlock them, you'll have a chance of coming across them at the start of each section and also as an enemy drop, however you can get lucky and find a weapon you haven't unlocked randomly from a loot box within a level Intel are like perks which can be upgraded from the same in-game currency you use for weapons. Each Intel can be upgraded (Not all but most) which can go up to either a max of Rank 3 or Rank 5. You can buy Intel in a match in between each section with coins that are found within the playthrough. The Intel you can buy are randomized Trinkets are like set perks that are applied immediately upon starting an Act. You can have up to 6 Trinkets active and you get set bonuses if you match them. You get a Set Bonus if 2 Trinkets are matching and another if 4 Trinkets are matching. Ideally you'd want to get 4 Trinkets matching with each other and the remaining 2 Trinkets to match together as another set type. You can also upgrade these too but using a different in-game currency which you can get from selling Trinkets you find in-game Characters: Sams There are 5 characters you can choose from which are unlocked with the same in-game currency you use for weapons and intel. Each Sam has their own Ultimate Ability, though they are pretty similar to each other. There should probably have been more characters as it does seem kinda lacking -- Conclusion so far -- I have found the game to be pretty fun, it's a decent game for you to just chill on. Is it too hard? Not really, it's clear to me that the game was designed for you to start off underpowered and for players to upgrade their stuff so that they can eventually beat Act III: Shatterverse, but from the fact I have the difficulty unlocked already seems to me that it could be too easy if anything as I don't have that much stuff upgraded at all. I seen people complain about the dialogue in the game, but like, this has always been the case for Serious Sam, I just don't pay attention to it and just focus on the gameplay. For anyone disappointed expecting more.. This is a spin off, it's not a main Serious Sam game and isn't made by Croteam. The game is currently £16.19 on Steam, I really don't see why people are bashing on it and since I enjoy the game and think that the people hating on it just haven't figured it out and haven't really giving it a chance, I for sure recommend the game as it is honestly pretty decent. I could probably have typed up a better review but I'm tired and sick rn. Hope it was helpful to someone and I hope the people who worked on this game see that there are people who enjoy what they've made
