At the very heart of Septerra lies the Core, a huge Biocomputer. Seven continents at different elevations, each with its own unique people and culture, orbit around the Core.According to an ancient prophecy, Septerra's continents will one day converge and join in orbit together on one level - this is the Legacy of Marduk, the Creator's...

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I feel a bit sorry giving this game a bad review because, at first, I was genuinely impressed. My initial reaction was so positive that I found myself thinking, “Why is this game so forgotten?”. Even though I could already see some issues, like the needlessly slow combat and uninspiring character progression, I was hooked by the interesting lore, appealing world and likeable characters enough to overlook them. The plot itself is the standard "stop the bad guy from destroying the world", but the smaller adventures that make up the story were engaging enough to keep me invested. In that sense, it reminded me a lot of Final Fantasy VI. Unfortunately, the game gradually became an absurd, unsustainable slog. It's almost entirely made up of huge, uninteresting dungeons filled with frequent backtracking and an overwhelming number of unskippable battles. To make matters even worse, enemies respawn whenever you change maps. By around 30 hours, I started using cheats just to disable enemy AI. Another 10 hours later, I used cheats again to power up my characters a few levels and make progress bearable. In the end, while slowly backtracking my way through yet another repetitive dungeon, I simply gave up. It’s a shame because the game has all the elements to be a solid JRPG, but some extremely poor design choices undermine it. For instance, encounter design clearly draws inspiration from Chrono Trigger, with visible enemies instead of random encounters. Normally, this design allows players to skip battles if they choose, improving pacing and avoiding the typical grind of JRPGs. But here, the majority of enemies cannot be bypassed, forcing constant battles and defeating the purpose of the system entirely. On top of that, there are so many other areas that could have been streamlined. Battles, for example, include long, unnecessary pauses between actions that feel like “death by a thousand paper cuts.” It’s a pity that while the game borrowed systems from Chrono Trigger, the developers were unable, or unwilling, to replicate its sense of pacing. In my mind, Septerra Core is the definition of wasted potential.

Polecam.
It is a 50+ hour journey that feels 70 hours long. There is a great world buried under tedious combat and technical hurdles.
So I mostly play games on my Steam Deck out of convenience and mostly play my said games through GOG or emulation, but I figured I'd purchase Septerra here on Steam out of convenience, only for the game to crash after the first cutscene every time I start a new game. I've tried everything from the unofficial patch to reinstalling to running through different Proton versions to digging into the files, but still no dice. It wasn't until getting an entirely different version of the game through GOG that I was finally able to actually play the game with zero issues or tweaking beyond controls. If your game is marked as Steam Deck Playable then I should be able to play it, I've gotten many Unsupported games to work flawlessly without any issue or a simple change of settings so this is frankly ridiculous. This is such a unique game, and I think anyone with an interest in weird settings and aesthetics should give it a shot, but don't buy the Steam version.
It's a bit jank and the battles are slow but it has a lot of charm, good voice acting and the world is cool and unique.
I played this game when it first came out and still (mostly) love it now. I just hate fighting everyone again when re-enter an area.
A captivating RPG with a rich storyline, engaging characters, and beautiful pixel art that offers hours of immersive and nostalgic gameplay.
A good if outdated game. The story is interesting and you'll take your party through several layers of obstacles and enemies. Being an old game, a lot of battles will be just a succession of enemies - so, don't expect a variety of combat, that is normally done by turns using cards. The characters are well-developed, and there is even a bit of voicing. It's not a bad game for a rainy day, especially if you are feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information from the modern rpgs.
