It's definitely not a Saints Row game. It feels empty and a bit soulless. You need the expansion pack for 100% completion, and even on sale, both cost around 4.49 (euro). That's not even worth it, tbh. The graphics are great, but that's about it. Don't let this be your first Saints Row game.
welp, believe the reviews from the Saints Row fans, this bad imitation really is as terrible as they make it out to be. Probably worse.
This game isn't worth it even at 85% off. I don't write reviews but this is so ass. Im warning you. 10/10 concentrated trash juice.
The series was a staple of my childhood, and I genuinely wanted to see it continue and succeed. I even voted during "Gat Outta Hell" for a series reboot because I felt the current story had written itself into a narrative corner that would’ve been difficult to navigate moving forward. In short, this is not how I would’ve envisioned a reboot being handled. The story lacks soul, the map feels as dull and lifeless as a Pyongyang city street, and the sense of freedom that defined previous entries just isn’t there. Even if I tried to judge this game entirely on its own, separate from the rest of the series, I’d still walk away with the same complaints. Get the game if its on sale. Discounted. But I just can not in good faith recommend it.
How on earth did this get made let alone released? It's not funny It's not fun to play I had to force myself to finish the first mission I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, but even at a reduced price I paid too much. EDIT Please, go play a different Saints Row game. The old ones are great
I can see why the company went under with this release. There is very little redeemable to it. Everything from the driving, shooting, style, design, writing, all of it is a downgrade from The Third. I got this for free and I still want a refund.
This game actually has nothing going for it. The gunplay is boring as hell, the combat in general is atrocious, the writing is awful and the setting is soulless. And don't get me started on the driving, the car has 0 sway or anything, it's just a box that rotates if you steer and the second you let go of A or D the tires teleport back into a straight pattern. Drifting doesn't feel like drifting at all. I thought the game would be funny-bad, but it's just straight up bad.
I got this game as part of a bundle with the rest of the series. It cost me like $2. I still feel like I paid too much. This game feels like the fake game a kid "plays" in the background of a movie.
It's just bad, not good bad but awful bad. Please don't try this, even for 90% off or even for free, it's all bland and boring. A blind, nut-less monkey could make a better game than this slop.
I'm gonna try to condense this as much as possible to just help you make the call or buy or no buy. SR1 and SR2 are how I survived high school, needless to say I'm a big fan of the 2. So let's get it out of the way now - it's worth buying. This is not the writing of 1 or 2 let's just establish that fast.. Really the weakest aspect is the writing, but it's pretty much up from there. The story is just, all over the place. There's like multiple plots, but they never really go anywhere, while the central plot doesn't really make much sense and has just very odd direction choices on the whim, It's also pretty PG-13, so don't expect anything cool or all that adult either. It doesn't treat you like a child but it's not quite adult either. Gameplay is the saving grace here. It's got everything you'd expect from a Saints Row game. Big explosions, over the top customization on most everything, a variety of side activity/mini games, tons of stuff to find and collect. The gameplay all around is fun enough to live with the weak story. No shortage of toys and mayhem to mess around with. This ain't gonna be the Saints Row game your hoping for, that's just a given without the original writing team. But it's not the worst either. But most importantly it's fun to play, just live with some cringe jokes and forgettable characters - but have a blast when your actually in the gameplay. I mean think about the flip of that, killer awesome writing but lame gameplay? Which would you rather?
