RUBATO, an experimental, 2D physics-based take on the collect-a-thon genre!
Modeled estimate, not a reported figure. How we estimate →
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.57/day in the week to Aug 17 → 1.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

The year is 12,012. Multiquadrillionaire monopoly "GSSAI CO." has been in power of the universe for centuries after a world-ending bioweapon was unleashed onto the masses. And now? The solar system has been destroyed by unknown celestial forces. A weapons development program run by the Earth subsidiary of "GSSAI CO." is fast progressing. And the world's denizens are disappearing.
That is until one man screws up a game of pool.
Use your tongue to lick enemies and objects as you make your way through open metroidvania-like areas, whilst collecting "Planet Bits" to help fix the solar system!
5 compact, densely packed areas ranging from a huge sprawling bakery to the world's most poorly planned city. Uncover secrets and shortcuts in every corner of the world.
A strange, funny plot with a deep focus on humour and character writing. It gets silly. It gets serious. Really concerningly serious. Uh. Is the guy who made this game okay..?
To save the world, you must save yourself first. Find yourself again.

RUBATO is more than an experimental take on the collect-a-thon genre. It's deeper than it looks, please trust me
very entertaining and silly game. the humor might be a bit flat at points, but the music and gameplay make up for it
I have very mixed feelings about RUBATO. I'm ultimately giving it a negative review because Steam doesn't really allow for anything in between, and unfortunately, the things I disliked ended up overshadowing everything the game does incredibly well. I really wanted this game to avoid becoming yet another quirky 2D platformer™ with a Surprisingly Deep And Dark Story™, but unfortunately, that's exactly how it ended up feeling to me. And the problem isn't even the lore itself, there's clearly a lot of thought and ambition behind it. It's the way it's presented. The dialogue, writing, and overall storytelling are so relentlessly irreverent that I found it almost impossible to take any of the lore seriously. Jokes drag on for way too long, and most of the main cast seem to share essentially the same personality, with the villain being one of the few exceptions. You could swap the portraits of half the characters, read their dialogue without knowing who's speaking, and a lot of it would still feel completely in character. That's probably my biggest frustration with RUBATO: why build a genuinely dark and interesting story only to undermine it with the way you tell it? Why not let certain moments breathe? Why not use other storytelling devices, or allow different characters to have genuinely different voices? Random 3D models and bursts of "lol so random" humor don't automatically make a scene charming or memorable. After a while, they just make the serious moments harder to care about. And this is especially frustrating because the actual gameplay is fantastic. The movement is incredibly fun, the collectathon aspect is genuinely addictive, and the soundtrack is AMAZING. Mechanically and artistically, the game has so much personality that it almost feels like the writing (and especially the question of how to tell its story) was treated as an afterthought. That's what makes it disappointing rather than simply bad. When I'm having this much fun exploring, collecting things, and interacting with the game's world, I want to care about what's happening in that world. I want the story to complement the gameplay rather than constantly pulling me out of it. It's a shame, because this game has so much artistic talent behind it and, in my opinion, had all the ingredients to feel like a truly complete package. Instead, its weakest aspect happens to be the one that constantly interrupts its strongest. I had a lot of fun actually playing RUBATO. Unfortunately, I had very little fun whenever it stopped to tell me its story, and I can't remember the last time the gap between those two things felt this big.

the greatest game a hungry little guy could ask for
First game in a long time to have me completely enraptured. The plot gets very serious which contrasts with the overall very goofy humor of the game but I find that works in its favor and was honestly one of my favorite parts. For a 20$ indie game it had a shocking variety of content. The aforementioned surrealist story switch up intrigued the hell out of me. When the story had its comedic bits (3rd zone's entire boss fight was a 3 stooges sketch) i was laughing heartily. Some parts definitely felt a bit jank. If you enjoy PS1 style low poly 3d it uses that to very comedic effect. 9/10
Este videojuego RUBATO me salvó la vida. Tengo 45 RUBATOS.
itz rlly good
WELCOME TO RUBATO WORLD
I rarely ever write actual, full-on reviews for games, even for my literal favorite games of all time. So, the fact that here I am, finally getting off my lazy ass and writing one for this game in particular should already be a testament that this game is really something special. Rubato is a very fun and quirky metroidvania type platformer that also happens to be a collectathon!! A fun to 100% percent one at that, which is extremely appreciated considering how other collectathons can feel way too annoying to achieve 100% percent completion on with never ending collectibles that can feel like you're endlessly searching for a needle in the haystack in a giant open world. The in-game map shows you where most of the planet bits (this game's big main collectable) are located, a very appreciated feature and prevents searching for these from being too frustrating. Platforming feels great too, albeit with the occasional physics related shenanigans getting in the way, though such is the nature of a physics based game and they were usually pretty funny that I could always laugh it off. Speaking of humor, this game is one of the funniest games I have ever played in recent memory. As someone who grew up watching stuff like YTPs and later being attuned with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ culture (and perhaps being a little too online but shhh), I love the surreal, absurd and nonsensical humor that this game is chock full of!! I had a big stupid grin on my face the entire time I was playing this game, there's no shortage of gags, weird NPCs and jokes in this game. Multiple times I was audibly laughing out loud at whatever positively and great stupid room/enemy/sound effect I'd come across
I think my favorite gag by far was the dog exploding chamber, where I blew up a PNG of a dog, it screamed loudly and then proceeded to get swarmed by more PNGs of that same dog, I had to pause the game for a minute to process what had just happened and was absolutely losing it LMAO
. I ADORED this game's humor for sure!! I would like to talk about the story but I really don't wanna spoil anyone. If what I have just described up until this point remotely interests you, then I would HIGHLY implore you to check out and play the game for yourself. The story and its themes really hit me hard and resonated with me so much more than I anticipated, and as I rolled credits, I had to take a moment to process everything in the best possible way. PLEASE go into this game as blind as possible, I promise it's so worth it. Overall, damn what a GAME Rubato was. This is a game I'll be thinking about for a long time and is something absolutely special to me. I love the weird and wonderful, the ambitious and anything that tries to do something truly unique, and Rubato is certainly all of that and is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GOOD!! This game has definitely entered my top 10 games of all time, and could very well enter my top 5 as I let the experience ruminate in my mind. Occasionally, you may play a game that feels one-of-a-kind, something that shapes you, really resonates with you and takes over your entire brain out of sheer love and adoration for it. I can say without any hesitation at ALL that Rubato, the funny frog game is one such game to me, and I'm so glad I got the chance to play it. P.S. Luna is best character <3
Hard to describe how amazing this game was. It really made me Rub a Toe.... Seriously , if you like games with fun gimmicks and platforming its perfect for you! And if you like an undertale type of comedy.
... That was still just a funny 2D platformer collect-a-thon right? Gameplay was honestly top notch, I have no complaints about the movement mechanics or even level design since once you get all your gadgets you can just go wild. Just experience the game and story yourself and stop reading this review, it's good, trust the reviews. There were 2 major bugs that affected my playthrough but both of them get into spoilers, hope these are fixed in 1.3:
Bug 1: The final boss "planet" softlocked my game, which sucks because I have to redo the entire boss to hope it won't happen again. For the planet cutscenes I would probably setup a skip button so freak things like that don't happen, this bug also happened when making venus so its something wrong with the planet sequences themselves. Bug 2: Button issues, sometimes it was consistent but other times whatever wall they raised or whatever planet bit they spawned in just... didn't? A reload of the save or going out of the area generally fixed it though, biggest culprit was the planet bit in route 77 (area 3) since it happened multiple times in a row. I had to completely exit the game and it became my last planet bit since I was still struggling to load it in even then.
