A brutal godlike village sim that melds the god game, management, and tower defense genres! Fight off hoards of monsters at night, and expand your village in the day time. Inspired by games like Black and White, Rimworld, and Dwarf Fortress but not quite like any of them.

Reviews
If you enjoy colony / defense games, then this one will be a joy to learn and play... though stay away if you prefer a game with a little pace to it as this one tends to slow down quite a bit very quickly into the game. This one will take a while for any of you 100% enthusiasts out there.
Creo que tiene mucho potencial pero no en el estado que esta ahora, no tiene un tutorial que explique la mecanica del juego, solo algunos tips que te orientan.

Rise to Ruins is an ambitious indie strategy game developed by Raymond Doerr and published by SixtyGig Games that blends village management, survival simulation, tower defense, and god-game elements into a single, constantly demanding experience. Originally conceived as a retro-inspired city builder, the game evolved over years of development into something far more complex and punishing, built around the idea that collapse is not a failure state but a core part of learning. From the very beginning, Rise to Ruins establishes a tone of fragile progress, where every structure placed and every villager assigned feels like a calculated risk against an ever-encroaching darkness. At its foundation, the game tasks you with nurturing a small settlement from nothing, ensuring your villagers have access to food, water, housing, and jobs. Villagers operate semi-autonomously, gathering resources, farming, hauling supplies, and maintaining buildings based on available roles and priorities. You do not micromanage individuals directly; instead, you shape behavior through infrastructure, job availability, and layout efficiency. This indirect control gives the village a living, sometimes frustrating personality, where inefficiencies and unexpected decisions can derail even well-planned setups. Learning to anticipate villager behavior and design settlements that minimize wasted effort becomes one of the game’s most important long-term skills. What sets Rise to Ruins apart from traditional city builders is the constant threat of destruction. When night falls, monsters emerge from the darkness and attempt to overwhelm your settlement, turning peaceful management into a desperate defense scenario. This creates a compelling rhythm between day and night, where daylight hours are spent expanding infrastructure and optimizing production, while nights are focused on survival. Defensive planning is crucial, and the game naturally pushes players toward maze-like layouts, choke points, towers, and guard posts to funnel enemies into kill zones. These tower defense elements add tension and urgency, ensuring that growth without preparation often leads to catastrophic loss. Adding another layer to this already demanding loop is the god-game aspect. You are not merely a mayor or overseer; you wield divine powers that can influence the world directly. These abilities allow you to heal villagers, smite enemies, manipulate terrain, and perform other powerful actions, but they are fueled by belief, a resource generated by your population. Using these powers recklessly can leave you helpless during critical moments, forcing players to weigh immediate survival against long-term stability. This system reinforces the game’s central theme of balance, where every advantage carries a cost and every decision echoes forward. Difficulty is one of Rise to Ruins’ defining traits. The game is intentionally unforgiving, especially in its survival-focused modes, and it expects players to fail repeatedly while learning its systems. Poor planning, bad luck, or even small inefficiencies can snowball into complete collapse, often in dramatic fashion. However, the game offers multiple modes and settings to accommodate different playstyles, including more relaxed or sandbox-oriented options for those who want to experiment without constant pressure. This flexibility allows players to engage with the game at their own tolerance level while still preserving its core identity as a challenging survival experience. Visually, Rise to Ruins embraces a functional pixel art style that prioritizes clarity over spectacle. Buildings, terrain, and units are immediately readable, which is essential given how much information the player must process at once. While the art may not be flashy, it complements the game’s systems-driven design and reinforces its retro-inspired roots. The sound design and music further support the experience, shifting subtly between calmer management phases and tense defensive moments, helping reinforce the day-night cycle and emotional stakes of survival. Over time, the game reveals a broader progression layer beyond individual villages, allowing players to influence multiple regions and carry knowledge forward between runs. While this meta-progression adds structure and long-term goals, it can also feel repetitive once the core mechanics are mastered, as many regions present similar challenges with limited variation. Even so, the strength of Rise to Ruins lies in its emergent gameplay, where no two villages fail or succeed in quite the same way, and where small optimizations can lead to dramatically different outcomes. Ultimately, Rise to Ruins is a game for players who enjoy layered systems, high difficulty, and learning through experimentation. It demands patience, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace failure as part of the process. While it may feel overwhelming or even punishing to newcomers, those who invest the time to understand its mechanics are rewarded with a deeply satisfying sandbox where survival feels earned rather than guaranteed. As an indie city builder with survival and tower defense at its core, Rise to Ruins stands as a distinctive and memorable experience that prioritizes depth, tension, and long-term mastery over comfort or spectacle. Rating: 8/10
It’s like a god like sim mixed with a little bit of tower defense. Makes this absolute banger of a game. I highly recommend this for anyone who’s into those stuff.
good game
