this is a fun, cute game - but it is nearly impossible to understand why anything is happening. i have no clue why any numbers change during a round or what any effect is doing.
This is a cute dicebuilder/deckbuilder that oozes charm. I had lots of fun building out a crit setup. Despite this game being all about dice rolls, it doesn't feel luck-based. The reroll mechanic really balances things out, allowing you to greed when the time is right. The music and pixel art are lovely. Just like slay the spire, it feels a little overwhelming learning the status effects and enemy moves, but I'm confident that after a few runs I will get into a rhythm. Tiny nitpick - the '%' symbol looks a lot like a '2'. Took me a while to figure out that 'Crit 52' was really 'Crit 5%'.

Just finished my first run - this game is great! The aesthetic is really charming and it's a worthy addition to the deckbuilder roguelike genre. I really enjoyed the battle mechanics, it's not too complicated to get your head around but there's a nice variety of strategies that organically present themselves to you from the start. In my run I saw a relic in the first shop that synergised with Combo, so I was aiming for that (although I couldn't afford the relic at the time), but whilst I was building towards Combo I found that I had developed quite a nice Might + Dual build just incidentally through the rewards I'd been getting, so my eventual winning build was a combination of those two mechanics, plus a lot of nice relics that synergised around collecting extra re-rolls. I reckon I could have had an even better build if I'd leaned harder into Stockpile (the mechanic that pays off extra for having unused re-rolls). Throughout my first run it felt like there were lots of optimisations to dice selection and ordering that I could learn to increase my DPS, so on top of having a wide variety of strategies available it feels like the actual turn-to-turn gameplay has some nice depth to it too. The game is light on story elements and it felt just a touch slow at the start for my particular run as I had mostly events to begin with and not many battles, but it quickly picked up the pace after halfway through the first area. The difficulty curve felt quite rewarding, as the enemies were definitely getting more formidable but not so much that my build wasn't keeping up. After defeating the first boss I was looking forward to seeing what the next area had in store, and it was a satisfying leap up in difficulty once I got there. On the whole I quite liked the pacing, it felt like I could go quick when I needed to and slow down when I needed more time to try and evolve my strategy. Being able to spam the dice when the encounter is basically over is a big plus. I did find by the end though that some of the non-battle encounters were starting to feel repetitive - but this was just the first run so I can't speak to what other options become available in future runs. The UI looks really polished and I was also a big fan of the music, I felt like it tightly reinforced the intended aesthetic of the game whilst also being catchy and memorable, especially the first boss fight theme, that was a bop. I was a little surprised that my run ended when it did, I hadn't necessarily expected that boss to be the final one of the run - but now that I've unlocked the next character it feels like there's much more gameplay to explore which is exciting! Overall this is a great game clearly made with a lot of love, and well worth the money if you're a fan of the genre. I loved Slay the Spire, and Ribbit Rogue is definitely good enough to stand beside it. In fact, if you've not played a deckbuilder roguelike before, this would be a great introduction to the genre! Thanks for making a great game!
Genuinely so fun! As I'm sure you can see on the game page, Ribbit Rogue is a dice-based roguelike with beautiful art and a *stunning* soundtrack. The atmosphere is genuine art, and it's so easy to put on your headphones and get sucked into the music. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys deckbuilding roguelikes! I've got a feeling it's going to be one of the next notable games in the genre! 5 stars!
https://youtu.be/NuCJJSVm-IY A side note before I write the review, as I was playing this I had the thought of how there are so many talented small team and solo devs out there that games of this quality are constantly released weekly. We really are spoiled on steam. Ribbit Rogue is a fun dice deckbuilder. The closest I would compare it too is Slay The Spire with dice instead of cards. It does not have the complexity or synergy of decks that you get from Slay The Spire but it is a fun roguelite with a lot of charm. Your "deck" consists of 10 dice. Each one can be for attack or defense, or a mix of the two. On the die you can upgrade each face for more power as the run goes. When it is your turn you pick four dice from the ones you drew and roll them to make up your turn. You can also reroll the ones you do not like (you will be doing this as some sides of the die have X on them that are a waste). I found with the rerolls there was not as much RNG as you would expect in a dice roguelite. I played a run on base difficulty and only needed to upgrade with eonugh power and defense to clear it. As you prgoress through the run you need to decide between two options most rounds and roll to see if you get the high option or the low option. It is a different mechanic which helps the game stand out from others in this genre. You also get permanent relics to help your build and make the run easier as you go. There is a lot of charm in the graphics. How cute is the frog in the bottom left of the screen? The monsters too have a fun look to them and the overall aesthertics works. As I mentioned before you will not get the depth of a Slay The Spire here but if you like this kind of game it is a fun roguelite that can keep you busy and it is under $10.
Can already tell it's great for this so few bucks. Not like those PS5 game you can lose after 2 months.
i find myself in menus more than battling.
