About
--GAME OVERVIEW--
Rhythm Storm is a roguelike bullet heaven/horde survivor with heavy rhythmic elements. Your vehicle automatically aims and fires (player-controlled twin-stick firing is possible at any time) while you control movement and a special power. You select a vehicle, set it's initial configuration and powers, then proceed into the action. Nearly everything in the world (except you) moves to the beat, and your goal is to survive to the end of each song. There are 3 main worlds, a boss, and a bonus world, each with its own unique song and mix of enemies.
--VECTOR GRAPHICS, NO TEXTURES--
Rhythm Storm uses untextured lines and polygons in rendering the game world and UI (along with a few fullscreen effects). The game visuals are crisp and clear, and the more resolution you give it the better it looks. For the best experience, it is recommended that you play the game on a 1440p (or higher) monitor with a refresh rate of 120hz or higher. [Playing the game at 1080p/60hz is still enjoyable, just less than ideal.]
--RHYTHMIC GAMEPLAY--
Rhythm Storm is a musical experience, but it's not a traditional rhythm game. Nothing your vehicle does is synced to the music, but much of the world IS synced. Wave changes happen every 8 bars of music, powerups and the world pulse to the beat, the UI is jamming to the beat, and many of the enemies move to the beat. Enemy spawning is also synced. Though the game is heavily synced to the music, no musical talent or beat-synced button pressing is required to succeed at the game.
--REFINED BULLET HEAVEN FORMULA--
At its core, Rhythm Storm is similar to other Bullet Heaven/Swarm Survivor/Horde Survivor games in structure. At the start of the game, you configure your vehicle's default upgrades, which includes the starting weapon(s). You also select which 4 categories of upgrade types you want to see (these are called Upgrade Sets).
During gameplay, you destroy enemies and collect XP as usual. When you collect enough XP to upgrade, you'll choose between 2 sets of upgrades. Each set has 3 upgrades, two of which are from the upgrade set category, while the third upgrade is more random. It's simpler and more intuitive than it sounds, and keeps the pace of play going while still allowing for a variety of builds and dynamic choices. More choices are also available once you unlock the re-roll modifier (semi-permament meta-progression upgrades).

Geometry Wars with guns. It would be nice to be able to play own music while play like Beat Hazard. Even without that option, the game is great. A fun bullet hell roguelike with great visual and action.

The storm really do be Rhythming
Just an insane amount of lasers in the form of a well rounded, well coded survivor game. Well worth it's price in my opinion, no other game offers more electrons per dollar than this one.
Rhythm Storm is an inventive blend of rhythm-based mechanics and arena survival action that successfully carves out its own identity within a crowded genre. Developed and published by Radiangames, the game takes the familiar formula of battling overwhelming enemy waves and enhances it with a music-driven structure where every movement, attack, and encounter is tied to the beat. Rather than simply using music as background atmosphere, Rhythm Storm integrates it directly into gameplay, creating an experience where sound and action work together as a single system. The game's strongest feature is its synchronization between combat and soundtrack. Enemies spawn, move, and launch attacks in rhythm with the music, transforming every stage into a dynamic audiovisual performance. This approach gives battles a unique sense of flow, encouraging players to anticipate patterns through both visual cues and the underlying beat. The result is a game that feels energetic and immersive, rewarding awareness and positioning while maintaining the fast-paced excitement expected from a bullet-heaven shooter. Character progression and weapon customization add meaningful depth to the experience. As players survive increasingly dangerous encounters, they gain access to upgrades that dramatically alter their combat capabilities. Choosing between different offensive and defensive enhancements creates a satisfying sense of experimentation, allowing multiple viable strategies. Whether focusing on raw damage output, survivability, or specialized weapon combinations, the progression system consistently provides reasons to continue playing and refining builds. Visually, Rhythm Storm embraces a vibrant and colorful presentation that complements its musical focus. Bright effects, enemy patterns, and explosive attacks fill the screen without completely overwhelming the player. The visual style is clean and readable despite the chaos, helping players track threats even during the most intense moments. Combined with energetic electronic-inspired music, the game creates an atmosphere that feels both modern and engaging from start to finish. One of the most impressive aspects of the game is how naturally it merges two genres that do not often intersect. Rhythm mechanics can sometimes feel restrictive, but Rhythm Storm uses them as a foundation for enhancing action rather than limiting it. Players who enjoy survivor-style games will appreciate the constant stream of enemies and progression systems, while fans of rhythm-focused experiences will find satisfaction in the game's musical timing and synchronized combat design. The game is not without minor shortcomings. Some players may initially struggle to adapt to the rhythm-based pacing, especially if they are accustomed to more traditional arena shooters. Certain sessions can also feel repetitive after extended play, a challenge shared by many games in the genre. However, the combination of varied upgrades, escalating difficulty, and engaging music helps maintain interest for a considerable amount of time. Overall, Rhythm Storm stands out as a creative and polished take on the bullet-heaven formula. By weaving rhythm mechanics directly into every aspect of combat, Radiangames delivers an experience that feels fresh, energetic, and memorable. It successfully combines strategic progression, satisfying action, and a strong audiovisual identity into a package that appeals to both rhythm enthusiasts and action fans alike. For players looking for a survivor-style game with a distinctive musical twist, Rhythm Storm is an easy recommendation. Rating: 8/10
