About
Recettear is the story of an item shop, the girl who lives in it, and the fairy who turned her life upside down. Recette Lemongrass finds herself in charge of an item shop built into her house, in order to pay back a loan her father took and then skipped out on - and Tear, her newfound fairy "companion", won't take no for an answer! As Recette, you have to decide how you'll get your stock - either through playing the markets in town or going out into the wild with an adventuring friend and thrashing beasts until they give up the goodies - how much to sell things for, what the shop should look like, and how to best go about getting the money Tear needs to pay off the loan. If you can't come up with the money... well, hope you like living in a cardboard box.

A great game for cheap. I mean it's as old as the ark, but I found it engaging for a while with an adorable protagonist and fun gameplay loop. Probably not for anime-inclined fans though.
Very cute shop management/dungeon crawler about working your way out of crippling debt - a story I believe many of us can empathize with. Actually "beating the game" by paying of Recette's debt isn't all that hard, and most people will probably manage it first or second try, since the mechanics are so simple. However, doing so is really only about half the game, as there is plenty of story past that point and - of course - many more dungeons to crawl if you're into that. Sadly the dungeons lost their fun for me after a while and the store management isn't really necessary once you are out of debt and have enough money to buy anything you need, so I'm sure I missed out on some content. Still, not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
Recettear is a bit of a liminal fever dream...a game that, to me, is iconic in its simplicity. What you see on the Store page is what you get: there's the VN driving the narrative, the Dungeons to gather the items, and the Shop to sell those items and simultaneously gear up the adventurers. Nothing in particular about Recettear is special, but you won't find another Shop Simulator / RPG title that hits quite like this one. The dialog is witty and will evoke a chuckle from time to time, the graphics are exactly what's shown on the page and nothing more, and the gameplay loop is smooth and, to me, ramps up to rather difficult, but I'm also not very good at this sort of Action RPG. Should you buy it? Of course! This game is a treasure in gaming and deserves more support, if nothing else. Capitalism, Ho!
Great game. Your objective is to set up shop and sell items. At night, you can traverse the dungeon in an attempt to find loot to bring back and sell. Great story, great characters.
This games tight and it's one of the first big indie dojin localizations that I remember coming out on steam around that time. Fight a slime and sell its insides because it's fun dude.
